I'm 90, and in 1965 we went to see a promising young singer appearing at a West Side Cleveland small night club. Just like Syndie, she had the same quirky, funny, yet humble style. But when she started to sing, we were astounded by her amazing voice. We listened her for dozens of successful years, for she was Barbra Streisand. I had the same feeling with Miss Christmas. BTW, I'm 91, now. Thanks for all the good wishes!
@kellip83649 ай бұрын
I'm 56 and immediately thought of Barbra also. The rapport she has with the audience, coupled with the uncanny ability to immediately soulshift into the very character that needs to sing that song, as well her honest and very expressive eyes . . . this is what they both share.

Thank you for writing exactly what I was thinking, and the "adult version" of the song, minus the curly-headed girl and obediently cute dog (which were fine for the musical) is a completely different experience. Sydnie made it so. When they enhanced the Golden Buzzer with "Over the Rainbow" I connected Sydnie to Judy Garland at 17 in _The Wizard of Oz_ Her performance allowed the viewer to think of the song as portraying a kid yearning to fulfill her dreams but also (and this became clear as Garland continued to sing the song to the end of her life) to hear the unsure questioning by an adult of whether reaching the end of the rainbow is actually possible. Similarly, Sydnie takes a rather simple and shallow anthem to sticktoitiveness on a child's level and turns it into thoughtful reflection on the trials that an adult facing some new challenge has already survived. There was also never a dull moment because of the control Simon mentioned. I never knew what to expect from her voice next but there was never anything static or mushy. Bravissima! So happy for her, her family and the audience.

I have been shoving my emotions down and away all year, until I saw and heard this young woman sing and perform - it felt as though all darkness disappeared and such incredible hope reappeared for me which made every emotion swell up within out and out of my eyes. Said all of this to say to everyone - no matter what you are facing - thanks to Sydnie Christmas, her voice, her charisma, her character and her gift - The sun will come out tomorrow so stick out that chin and grin.

I’ve sung over 3,000 solos (not in show business, in churches), and singing live that many times, I’m blown away by every single nuance of musical and vocal choice she made, not to mention her presentation and stage presence, and all in such a hugely important audition as BGT, she far exceeded in a single performance what most only could dream about. What a genuinely lovely, endearing human being.
