Kauffmann Stone - www.rubenmartin.com.ar
Hook: TMC 5263 o TMC 300 o similar size 6 to 14
Thread: UNI 8/0 , Danville 6/0 o UTC 70, black.
Weigth: lead wire o lead tape, optional.
Under body: mono nylon, same diameter of the hook wire.
Tail and antennae: goose biots.
Abdomen: hare tron dubbing and angora goat dubbing, mix in equal parts.
Rib: vinil rib, larva lace o swannundaze.
Wing cases: sections of turkey tail feathers, lacquered.
Torax / head: same abdomen.
Note: for made the Kaufmann Stone I prefer use a “coipo” dubbing, the coipo is a patagonian otter. It has a spectacular fur with guard hairs that allow amazing effects in large nymphs. Dyed or natural to contrast guard hairs and coat achieves a great look.
Black, browns and grays are the best colors.
This fly created by Randall Kaufmann is for me one of the best examples of balance between realism and impressionism in a copycat fly, no element in its design removes feeling of life and texture and provide a very good aspect of realism.
Since its appearance was the archetype imitator stone fly nymph and in my case in particular made a great impression and represent a great influence on the concept of what should be a fly for fishing.
There are variants of this fly with metal beads heads and rubber legs that seek to contribute even more effectively to fly one of the best ever designed.
Patagonian environments in the most effective colors are black, dark brown, gray and hares ear.

Очень аутентичная нимфа👍 Сегменты груди можно обработать жидким УФ-топом для ногтей тонким слоем, получится глянец и будет крепче👍

I'm dating myself a little but I watched Randall tie these in the Tigard, OR shop some 33 years ago! its a fly made to do one thing catch trout! I still have about a half a dozen that he tied, they are a sort of keepsake now since Kaufmann Streamborn is well gone now! Its my stone fly pattern of choice, black and brown work the best were I live, # 10 and 12! For the little black stone fly that hatches early in the Spring, I tie a slimmer version on 14 and 18 nymph hooks! Going to Argentina to fish and to shoot doves are two things on my bucket list!

@@rubenmartinflies never watched your vids. This fly is a masterpiece, probably well beyond my abilities as someone who ties perdigons, pheasant tails and Higa’s sos patterns for about 7 months now. I’m assuming the format and music are your thing? If not, I could think of nothing better than hearing what you’re doing and little tips you clearly do as second nature & of course what the materials are (as you shared above). I tried to get spray varnish & my fly shop guys had never heard of it. Do you get it online or at Hobby place? Best.
