There's a pdf on scribd with a bunch of traditional Bulgarian folk tunes in the form of a lead sheet. If you're looking to learn more about choir arrangements in the style of Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares you can check out Kalin Kirilov's book "Bulgarian Harmony: In Village, Wedding, and Choral Music of the Last Century". It's short but dense and has some great resources.

Fun fact, they actually sing this piece in a pitch between the notes of the piano, you cant play along with it on even a digital piano. If you play along the beginning, you realize the notated "e" is actually already a note between e and f! Fascinating!

Would anyone be able clarify the last chord for me? Are they really hitting that F at the "ri" three measures from the end? My ear might not be that great, but I'm getting a lot of clash with the other notes on what otherwise sounds like a pretty clear major chord.
@danhoenn4 жыл бұрын
They are! the key has an F sharp in it so the chord becomes E Maj9. If you’re familiar with solfege this is like having Do, Re, and Mi at the same time instead of just Do and Mi. The F sharp is part of the E major scale so instead of sticking out it blends really nicely with the chord and just adds a lot of color and warmth. The singers’ tone is especially bright and pointed, making the chord especially “ping-y” and this can also make harmonies like that harder to pick out.

00:01 How come that the cyrillic transcription romanises to "Kafal sviri" whilst the latin text below it says "kaval sviri"?
@huskytail3 ай бұрын
The кафал is not correct, кавал is. That's what they sing as well. In this case.the transliteration is the correct one.

f and v are often confused by English translators...... V sound in Slavic is written B. F is a unique Cyrillic letter circle with line through it.
