I’ve had my ES 8 now for ten months and it would be THE best keyboard that I have ever played. I’m learning piano in a small room so I use some high end headphones so the neighbourhood doesn’t have to listen to my scales and other exercises. Through the headphones this piano sounds absolutely brilliant (awesome, stunning, unreal, magnificent and all other superlatives). For various pieces I use the best suited piano for the job Sk Grand, Ex Grand, the six foot and upright piano and it sounds fantastic. I generally play this keyboard three hours a day give or take an hour and I never get sick of the sound, it is absolutely beautiful and unlike other companies’ product actually sounds like a real piano. One of my pet hates is out of tune pianos and of course this never needs tuning so saving a few hundred bucks a year based on two tunings a year. I had a ES 100 and it was great but upgraded to get the extra pianos plus the ivory feel keys;boy was that a good move. I got the technician on my iPad so I can tailor the instrument to my needs. I can’t imagine a digital piano getting any better than this. Kawai has done a totally magnificent job building this piano. Listen to Piano Man Chuck, he’s not kidding in his estimate of this astounding instrument.

ryanspianoaccount have you tried p515 at all just out of interest? Or are you just a Kawai fan? I love both Yamaha and Kawai to be honest because I own a Yamaha U1 upright I’ve kept for over 10 years😂 I have heard stunning things about p515 because of the Bluetooth and sequencing features, and I was thrilled and shocked to find the KZbin video views of that piano soaring up to 40000 currently, its proved really popular. I went for ES8 because I’m currently studying a lot of repertoire and in my experience having owned keyboards with multitrack recording features, my attention span became a lot shorter and I became easily distracted over what I was supposed to do!!! There was one point when I wasn’t prepared for my lesson at all and I got a bit frustrated ... also with sequencers when your composing something lengthy like an orchestral piece, it takes ages to get it nearer the finished product because every time you record a track to a file you have to start all over again ... with computers you can record a section then stop, evaluate, try other things with the track you’re focusing on and continue recording from where you’ve left off. Computers seem to be more organised with multitrack and score writing for the professional musician, whereas keyboards gear more towards the entertainment industry (songwriters) than the classical composer ...

hi chuck - recently tried the ES8, was rather astonished by the action/samples. It is very heavy but I am already playing a Kawai MP6 of comparable weight and the ES8 action is so good! My biggest questions - 1. speakers seem loud enough for some of the small private gigs I play, but can they project over a jazz drumset on a similarly "quiet" trio gig? I carry a PA generally but would accept the extra weight if I could leave the PA at home sometimes 2. how quickly usuable are the EQ settings? Biggest doubt I have on this versus the MP7SE is the lack of immediate on board EQ, but I know this has settings!

Zack I can tell you after playing 15,000 gigs in Dallas Texas many of them trio gigs with 18 different digital pianos there’s no way in hell you’re going to get the sound you want without bringing a left /right speaker System of substantial quality and amplifier etc. the best speakers you can buy now are the QSC K8s or K10s. They’re making a .2 version which is double the power and having more head room in power and new EQ section makes a delightful difference. Zach, also unless “no one is showing up to your gigs “there is always a rumble do to people talking. Again I’ll say there’s no way in hell the ESA is even going to come Close to giving you the kind of volume response you’re looking for at a gig where there is conversation going on. These don’t sound like concerts you’re doing where someone could drop a pin on the floor. The other thing is you’re going to want your drummer to really hear you in all your subtlety, I would suggest you have a mixer and a small monitor that you could give him so that he can hear the “point“ of your attacks of your playingu so that he can be more in sync with the rhythmic aspects and details of what you’re playing on the piano. As I said in my little blurb to Chuck, the BIG DEAL with this ES8 is that there is an adequate Soundsystem with in the box or the slab itself. That gives you a proprioceptive experience or a physical type feedback immediately. Something you don’t even achieve with floor monitors.....

Stunning lifelike acoustic sound, and I hear the action is weighted very well, better than the Yamaha P515 and weighted at around 55g downstroke, which is like the real piano. My only concern at this point in time is buying a piano so late in its lifecycle: this piano is like 4 years old now and must be due for a refresh. I would feel like a dummy buying this and learning of a new successor model 6 months from now with new features, like Bluetooth and new sample sounds. Any thoughts on the ES8 product lifespan and plan for a new model?

Dear Chuck, I am unable to confirm whether the ES8 has 'user preset' storage? With so much to tweak and design (re piano and effects), I do hope the ability to store your own preset is present.
@allanc46508 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does. This is from the owners manual: The Registration function allows the current instrument setup (sound/style selection, all settings, etc.) to be stored to a registration memory, and conveniently recalled at the touch of a button. Each of the seven registration buttons contain four banks (A, B, C, and D), allowing up to 28 different registration memories to be stored. Registrations can also be loaded from/saved to USB memory devices.

Chuck, love your videos. You did a video comparing ES8 and MP11, but where does MP7 stand in relation to ES8? It's a few hundred dollars cheaper. I'm wondering what other advantages and disadvantages one could compare between them, given that both are light enough to be gigging instruments.
@PianoManChuck8 жыл бұрын
ES8 and MP11 are mainly pianos (ie: stage pianos, or studio pianos but with the focus on piano). MP7 does not focus solely on piano - it has 256 voices, making it the best choice for a gigging musician who'll be playing different voices (instruments) as a keyboardist in a band.... with an easy way to group up to 4 voices onto the screen.

Chuck, can you compare ...just as a piano, kronos 2 and Kawai ES .. Just for piano? What I am interest in knowing, is an accurate account, of what isore inspiring to play. What involves you more. Which can you lose yourself in. I think Key action can be more than ... What the keys feel like in technical terms, if for example one piano becomes emersive and keros you lost in self playing, more meaningful music will result. .. Its valid to say the technical mechanism is higher and smother, with better repeatability but which of those mentioned, to you play and enjoy more, as a piano. I will be evenusllybwant a kronos, but might get another board first big bit is more musically involving. On piano patches. I want to improve my classics and jazz repertoireAÀ this winter. Price and other sounds aside. Which piano korg mp7see/es 8, roland rd 2000;or irons two piano engine and 88 not key. Practicing ton get better, and composition.. Thanks

Boards are not rated by the skill levels of players. Boards are selected by players based on their comfort level. I suspect with that kind of skill level the Kawai VPC1 controller or MP11 stage piano might be better suited, but the player should really try all 3 of those models and make an informed decision based on reality.

Unlike violins, kids start on a full size piano and there is no reason to have a lighter action for kids. As they learn, the complexity of the pieces will increase naturally, so they will never be "exhausted" from playing it. I have bought this piano after an extensive research and I recommend it. If your child is lucky enough to learn on in, it will enhance their experience. I have MMus and it's sufficient on highest level playing.

Hello Chuck; Ken Boome here Chuck. . Like you, I own a KAWAI MP11 SE, and I practice on it daily (Instead of my C7e, to save wear and tear so it’s brilliant for recording sessions) .. In addition I picked up a Roland FP 90 recently to install at a venue that I perform at regularly. I also gig regularly at a place that has a Yamaha P255 ( Slid into a grand piano. The MP11se is my 18th digital piano. With digital pianos I now believe, the “2” real big deals are #1. How does it really sound and respond? & #2.) How well is the internal sound system simulating and approximating the psycho-physiological experiences ( The anchoring & physical connection) one has when playing a real piano. A little internal sound system goes along way here.... I have never been shy about carrying any of the 18 Digital Pianos for gigs ( even the V-Piano) until I bought the MP 11. It is a little awkward to man handle. I never thought I would say that. So I will be buying an ES8 for my actual stage gigs. Again I believe the sound (sampling) and the combined internal sound system ( while not as robust as the FP90) creates the actual “psycho-physio, proprioceptive hook up or connection” I am describing up above. The only thing: Kawai did not add to the ES8 ( that I can ascertain) was a practical and simple way to control midi zones with buttons and sliders; ( like the MP series does) that would’ve been the cats meow. So Chuck for real monitoring I am using QSC K8.2 and K10s on gigs. My burning QUSTION here is: I need to find a way to Practically send Midi Control messages including some kind of smooth foot volume control to my Roland Integra 7 .. ( for strings, pads, and Rhodes) You can’t beat the richness of these. So proclaiming the ES8 has the best Sampling and Internal sound for "player feedback/monitoring" what boxes would you get to take care of that. So Chuck "how would" or "what would" you use to create the expressiveness and transformation that I am describing in the above paragraph? Any suggestions. Are their any “BLANK” user presets I could create the combination layered patches I am talking about here.? Is there a Stereo Return (Inputs) back into the ES8 ? Thanks in advance . Ken KB
