Great review. I've owned this for years and never really dug into what it can do. You're videos are great you do an amazing job explaining things. A lot of presenters ramble on, you say exactly what you need to say - nothing more, nothing less.

Hi PianoManChuck.. I just bought one of these marvels today, and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival.. I had the opportunity to purchase a Yamaha CP4, but turned it down for this keyboard, I hope I made the right choice.. Please let me know what you think of the MP7 for gigging as that is what I will be using it for in a classic rock band.. Thank you so much for all the time you put into your videos, they do make a difference...

When I reviewed this unit, I took it on a gig and was quite impressed. It'll take time to get familiar with it, but definitely gig-worthy.

@@PianoManChuck Thank you for the response, I have owned a lot of keyboards and this is the first Kawai, I've always wanted one and now it is on it's way thanks to your reviews.. I appreciate you for taking the time to demo the keyboards and give an honest opinion of the good and bad of each.. Thank you again for all you do...

Nik Pap Hey, if you're still after advice, I strongly suggest getting studio monitors, maybe KRK rokit series, or anything else within your price range, I use Yamaha 8" monitors and love them. These are designed to accurately reproduce the sounds of anything that is plugged into them, so you will hear all the charcater and all the little details of the piano. You will not regret spending the money IMO.
@giannagiavelli50985 жыл бұрын
@@JoelEmmanuelMusic no do not get these. they are fair not great. get some behringer truth with the ribbon tweeters. the old model. you need that to really do high piano keys. they emit over 30k hz

Always appreciate your keyboard reviews. Chuck, I just have one question. I've heard you talk about how you like the keyboard feel of even the model Kawai has, that's priced under a thousand $..Have you reviewed a Yamaha CP 40 lately, and which has an 'easier to play' action,...(your preference, of course)...the Kawai MP 7, or Yamaha CP 40?. I think that I can guess, but it would help to hear it from you. Thanks

Please post Kawai-related tech questions in the forum section at www.pianoworld.com (in the digital pianos synths & keyboards forum). This is where most Kawai users hang out. The review unit of the MP7 that I had was 4 years ago.

chuck, is it possible to change pitch on every key? i want to create the sound of an old out of tuned piano. think nine inch nails.
@EverettDudgeon1386 жыл бұрын
With the audio/midi recorder. I know you can do overdubs but if you have one of the 4 sounds also controlling an external instrument via midi will the recorder also trigger the external synth while it’s playing?
@michaelc49619 жыл бұрын
I have read that the RH II allows you to actually set the trigger point of the keybed between 3 different positions on the sensors. I'm assuming between a heavier piano-feel to a light, almost semi-weighted organ feel. Have you played with these settings at all? Also, regarding the overdub - since you say it is unlimited does this mean it instantly 'merges' the layers together in a single track, or does this actually allow you to record them as separate tracks or sequences.
@giannagiavelli50988 жыл бұрын
Its even better than that. It has dialable settings for key feel and you can go and have it listen to your playing and create a custom setting. You can record a few of these, then switch them from the front dial real quick as you change sounds. if you play organ, it uses the sensors differently already.

Hello Pianoman Chuck. Best wishes for 2017! You know an awfull lot about the KAWAI MP7 (your enthousiasm made me buy one:-)! Perhaps you would like to help me in my quest to make it work with the RAVENSCROFT virtual piano software. This is the situation: I am a proud owner of a KAWAI MP7. I worked through the user manual to find out what I should do to make my RAVENSCROFT virtual piano produce sound when I touch the MP7 keys using the MP7 as midi controller. When I put the MP7 on EXT and "sub2" unfortunately, nothing happens. I can't solve this. I guess my MP7 settings must be incorrect??? My configuration: - Microsoft Surface Pro 4 i7 processor 8 mb int memory(laptop)- VILABS RAVENSCROFT virtual piano software installed on laptop - Yamaha asio driver installed on my laptop - UVI Workstation installed on my laptop - UVI Workstation sees MP7, Yamaha asio driver and RAVENCROFT banks - USB to midi cable connceting MP7 and laptop - Steinberg UR22mkII audio interface, (USB to midi) connected to my laptop and external amplifier (L/R sound cables) - 2 external speakers connected to my external amplifier - I put my MP7 on EXT and "sub2", but I don't really understand this part. Should I install a KAWAI driver or firmware update? Jan 2nd 2017I found out that I had to buy a (Steinberg UR22mkII) audio interface, and did that yesterday. Solved: the VI LABS RAVENSCROFT pianosoftware produces sound when I touch the virtual keys on my laptop (with touchscreen). To be solved: the KAWAI MP7 does not control the software yet! Not with a USB to midi cable, nor with the midi out cable, both correctly plugged into my laptop (USB to midi) and audio interface(data cable). So the only thing I can figure out is that I have to execute an additional action in my MP7 settings. The big question to me is: what action? After starting up the MP7 I select EXT and choose "sub2". But unfortunately, "it ain't enough". Could you tell me what to do? "Step by step" please because I am kinda lost in the MP7 desert. The MP7 manual uses expressions in it's explanation that I don't understand. Many thanks in advance again (-: Cheers, René

Please contact the manufacturer of your product's technical support department. In your case, for VI Labs Ravenscroft, their website can be found at: www.vilabsaudio.com Another very helpful resource for Kawai users: go to www.pianoworld.com/forum/ and from there choose the "Digital Pianos - Synths and Keyboards" forum. Post your situation there. Experienced users will chime in and help you out.
@giannagiavelli50985 жыл бұрын
no the whole point of a fine instrument like this is the connectedness with the sound. its a terrible idea to play it with externals. BUT, what you can do is record the midi, and then play it back against any sound you wish.

How would you say the sounds are on this board other than just the piano sounds. I have heard mixed reviews.
@PianoManChuck7 жыл бұрын
The organ sounds on it are excellent! On par with Kurzweil's Forte.
@mikenpet7 жыл бұрын
PianoManChuck I'm trying to decide on the Kurzweil Artis 7 or this one. I know I would be sacrificing the 88 keys and weighted action of the Kawai if I went with the smaller Artis7. However for gigging the smaller lighter Artis7 seems very appealing to me as I'm not getting any younger!!! Any thoughts on this Chuck would be GREATLY appreciated before I make this investment. Thank you.
@PianoManChuck7 жыл бұрын
You're asking the wrong guy.... Personally, I would NEVER consider anything less than 88 keys under ANY circumstances!
@mikenpet7 жыл бұрын
PianoManChuck yes, 88 keys means a lot to me as well. In the grand scheme of things I'm most likely going to order the Kawai mp7 next week. It just almost seems to good to be true at its price!! Thanks for you input and your KZbin videos. It's refreshing to hear your unbiased reviews of keyboards. Peace my friend.

As for piano samples: ES8 has the new Shigeru piano samples. Other than that, the EX piano samples on both the ES8 and MP11 are identical.

Does the Kawai MP7 offer fresh samples to be uploaded like Nord does?
@PianoManChuck8 жыл бұрын
No, only sampling keyboards can do that (Nord, Korg Kronos, for example.... but they're twice the price!).
@lanecollins80808 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I can't get my fingers on a MP7 here where I live in Canada....so I can't try it out. I trust your opinion on the action. Casio is great for the money but the Kawai really is the best...again it's all subjective. I'm in a classic rock band. Does the MP7 cover 80's synth songs well?
@PianoManChuck8 жыл бұрын
The best place to find that answer would be at www.pianoworld.com - navigate your way to the 'piano forums', then to 'synths & keyboard' forums and post your question there. Lots of Kawai MP7 users (and other models) there will chime in with their answers for you.
