Kawasaki Bayou 250 carburetor replacement!

I was having idling issues/ back firing through the carb. Replaced it with an identical one as this. Idles fine now with no issues. I will add this for people who may not have much knowledge about this like me.. black spacer/ slide for the throttle needs to sit all the way down. 1st time i had it in backwards lol.. doesn't wanna start wide open. Fuel line nozzle on new was little bit smaller than factory. Check your vacuum lines, one of mine was plugged solid. Thanks for the vid!

I have a 2003 ( same as yours). I always had problems along with a zillion other people with idle/carb issues. Even the Honda dealership worked on it to no avail. They literally told me push it off a cliff. Biggest mistake I ever made was buying this bayou, but seems to work for you. Lots of people seem to have problems in your comments section!

Yea it should go it’s kinda a pain to get the choke cable hooked back up are you having issues getting hooked up or on the carb it’s self

after watching this video I bought this carb for my 03 Bayou 250. Before I couldn’t get it to start and stay running and now after installing this it idles beautifully. Now when I try to give it any gas it dies on me, do I need to try adjusting anything? Fresh oil, new plug and battery so far.

Do you have the air filter on and is it the stock setup I have had bikes run lean with aftermarket setups. You can also adjust the fuel mixture screw. I believe there’s a idle and mixture screw on the side of the carb you can also check the needle adjustment you may need to lower it one notch.

@@BASgarage yep everything is stock. I put the air filter and box back on and it fired up. Putted around my yard for the first time in years (dad owned the quad when I was a kid and gifted it to me last year because it was just sitting for years). I know the idle screw is right next to the gas line. There’s also one on the bottom towards the front. Would that be the fuel mixture screw? Also there’s two inside but I haven’t opened the bowl up or anything on the aftermarket carb.

@@Flores97Drummin yes the one on the front is the fuel mixture screw I think I set this one at 1 and 1/2 turns that should get you close anyway.

Changed the carb on my 94 now idles high when given gas puts out... and moves by itself .. but now pull start hard to do and wont run at all

Check the oil did you change may have leaked gas into it before you swapped carbs very common on these for the float to stick open and dump fuel into the engine oil

I bought this exact bayou today and after an hour of riding it died. It idles super fast and backfires ALOT. Also whenever I put it into gear it immediately dies. It’s also leaking fuel somewhere. Does this sound like a carb issue?

Could be check your oil to make sure it doesn’t have fuel in it sometimes these carbs float stick

Sounds like someone monkeyed with the carburetor and didn’t know what they were doing. Have you tried adjusting the idle speed screw on the left side of the carb? The choke may be stuck. The idle/air mixture screw is located on back of the carburetor behind the float bowl, it may have a plug over it. Be extra cautious if you adjust this, default setting is 1& 1/2 turn out from seated. You may get by cleaning the carburetor in a can of Berryman Chem-Dip carburetor cleaner or run some fresh gas and Sea-Foam additive through it. Check your spark plug too, that may cause some popping/backfiring. Like the author said, the Chinese carbs you get(Amazon or EBay) are iffy. You may luck out on the first one or not. I replace one on my brother’s Bayou 250 and could not get it adjusted right but was able to successfully rebuild his original. I purchased an All Balls Racing carb kit for my Bayou 250 from Amazon and installed it three days ago and engine runs great. IF you decide to disassemble your carb and rebuild it, be careful when unscrewing the idle/air mixture screw. If you run into resistance screwing it out, leave it alone. That happened on my brother’s and that’s why we ordered a clone carb. Get a shop manual for your Bayou or check out carb rebuild videos on KZbin. I hope you get it running good. Oh, check for rotten fuel hoses and rubber manifold/air box connector too.

@@jameslester3861 it ended up being the throttle cable having issues. But the carb has other issues as well, it just wasn’t the reason it was dying. The carb float gets stuck often I’ve thought about taking it out and cleaning it but honestly I’m afraid if I do so that it will unlock some other issue like bad seals within the carb. Would you recommend replacing the carb with a knock off one?

HELP!! I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THIS MACHINE & JUST BOUGHT IT LAST NIGHT. THOSE 2 VENT LINES?? THAT YOU TUCKED THROUGH THE BOTTOM? I thought 1's connection came off from somewhere because gas was running out of one while sitting on my trailer. Am I supposed to have to black lines just hanging there then? Why is gas coming out of one?

One of them is a drain hose to empty the carb the other is a overflow line if your float is off or sticks it let’s fuel out. Hope this helps you don’t have to have those two hoses on the bottom of the carb on just keeps fuel from running all over the engine.

I put a new carb but mines won’t idle same model and everything as yours I bought from Amazon as well . What do I have to adjust ? I can keep it running when I hold the gas but when it idles it’s dies .

So on the side of the carb, there’s a small screw that you can adjust in to up the idle.

So I bought a 80s bayou 220 only stays running with the choke on was still rideable replaced spark plug fuel filter and air filter only thing left really is carb any time I hit the throttle it will die will stay running any time it's jus choked starts up every time weather it is pull started or electric ?

Yea definitely could be a plugged main jet or passage in the carb sounds like it’s having a hard time pulling fuel in also check the rubber boats around the carb if they are cracked or leaking can cause similar symptoms.

my choke cable was stuck, and i soaked it put heat on it and waited, ended up breaking my choke line, then i was trying to use the throttle that came with the new carb and i broke the old one after realizing you used the old one, im sol now and have no clue how to even fix this

Man that sucks I think the only thing you can do is get a new or used choke cable and throttle. There’s normally quite a bit of parts for these on eBay.

Hey working on mine and got everything off except choke cable and it won't pull out? I've been spraying it with wd40 to see if it will loosen up? Is there anything else I could do? Has set for 5 years!

You might be able to blow it out with an air compressor In side of the carb there’s a hole one of them goes to the choke you should be able to track the the passage way good luck you might just have to get a new choke cable.

You can try soaking it in PB blaster or other penetrating oil then just give it a good pull sometimes they can be really stuck in there. Good Luck
