Awesome video. I have a 1998 1100, It's the one that's orange and cream, and came with with wall tires. I had a mini stroke a few years ago. And the next year, a triple bypass. I thought my bike was empty. I forgot when I drained it, I guess i should have drained the reserve too? Not sure. Now that I'm moving around, I started getting ready for memorial day rides. It won't start. So I guess I'm doing this. Not looking forward to it. You've done a great job. Your video is giving me the courage and confidence. Thank you.

Perfect, dude - nice job. Only addition is take some sandwich baggies and put them over the now-open black rubber intake manifolds (that you left still attached to the motor). Even when I've said "I'm going to finish cleaning the carbs and put them back on today, I don't need to cover the intake manifolds" half the time something comes up and I finish it the next day. Or the next weekend. I put one baggie over each intake manifold to prevent anything falling inside, then a rubber band around each baggie to keep it secure on the manifold. Got tired of saying "dammit, that distraction kept me from finishing my carbs today, now I gotta go out and cover the intake manifolds" I'm usually not in the mood to do that because the distraction, whatever it was, pissed me off "I had something to do, now this schitt comes up" type of deal I put the baggies and rubber bands on **right after** the carbs come off. . . .

What a wonderful way to explain. My VT1100T is leaking gas from (I think) the carburetor as soon as I turn the key on and it also sounds like a relay going on and off repeatedly very fast and the leak starts as if there was no tomorrow. I already checked by touching ignition relay and it's fine. I think there might be something wrong with the fuel pump (sadly is a relatively new one) 😣

Also try a heat gun, the kind they use to shrink shrink-wrap tubing. Just be careful where you aim it, they put out a lot of heat. Try the easy thing first - penetrating oil. If it doesn't work, heat gun (briefly).

@@TheMotorcycleMD Cody, in 1 video about jetting with pod filters, you mentioned going up about 15 sizes on the main jet and 1 to 3 sizes on the slow/idle jet. In another video about after market exhaust, you said rejetting is not needed and that all you need to do is install #4 washers on the needles in the carbs to slightly raise them. So do you only really need to rejet when changing to after market air filters? If air filter is stock but you have after market exhaust, you just use #4 washers to raise the needles and no new jets are needed?

I had a 1996 VT1100 and hated taking the carbs out to do any kind of mods to them. It's a pain in the ass to remove as you see on this video. Once you get them jetted correctly, I suggest using Seafoam for long term storage and periodically during the riding season to keep the carbs cleans so you don't need to do any maintenance on them.

Do you have a video of how to put the dang thing back in after its taken out and rebuilt? Put mine back on and gas wont got into the bowl of the carb....why? Will the bike fire up without the intake on it just long enough to make sure the engine will turn over? Like can I use a bottle and let gas feed in by gravity and see if the bike will crank without my whole tank on? And do you have any tips for what hose goes where because I had to replace some hoses too. Got the carb back in at one point and it was still leaking some gas from the bottom of the carb. Gah I dont wanna take it to a dealer, I'd rather fix it myself.

Hi Cody, I just found your videos and it seems like you're talking to me because I'm not too smart when it comes to bike and your videos are simple and basic. I have a 2002 VTX 1800c, I have asked on vtx social media and I get mixed comments, "your bike is fuel injection, it doesn't have a carb". The reason I ask is because I want to change my pipes and I was told that I needed a jet kit. Then I'm told that I don't need a jet kit because I have FI and not a carb. All I have to do is change the pipes and roll without any adjustments. 1) how can I tell who's right? I know what a fuel injection looks like on a car but I don't know if it's the same concept on a bike. 2) I want to change out my exhaust pipes but I was told that I need a jet kit, is that true? Thanks for your help, Cesar

the vtx 1300s were all carbureted, the 1800s were all fuel injected, you will need a power commander, or a fuel pak, stay far away from the cobra fi2000, or other dial budget controllers, they are junk. i went with a k&n , power commander v, and cobra slash cuts, now you will have to get it dynotuned, but you wont be disappointed. well worth the money. also plug the pair valve in the airbox

The big one and little diameter one. On mine, only the big one runs back with all the other tunes. The little diameter one is only 3 inches long not attached to anything. Where do those tunes go and what is that lil plastic box for?? I've had trouble with stalling and losing power. Should that little diameter one be leading back attched somewhere??? Mine is not. Thanks in advanced man!!
@1more4Jesus
@1more4Jesus 3 жыл бұрын
@johnny Woodford, that’s the expansion “box” for your radiator. The small tube is a breather, and the big tube hooks to your radiator. You don’t have a radiator cap that can let off pressure, so the expansion chamber does that. Like most modern cars do now.
