Join me as I give some close-up shots of my Kawasaki Concours 14. I tell you a bit about the features and give you a practical explanation. See the Tetra-Lever Shaft Drive, Electric Windscreen, Stove Key knob. I also give you an appraisal of what I really think of this bike at the end. Spoiler Alert... I love this bike.
The bike is equipped with Helibar 1.5" Risers, Phil's Farkels Givi Monokey rack, Dunlop Roadsmart 3 tires. Otherwise completely stock.
Special thanks for the Aerial footage to:

A very nice, calming video with great scenery. I have the 2012 Concours 14 ABS. My minor seat problem: I’m 6’3” and even with risers, I was sliding forward while braking on the stock seat. Annoying. So I pulled an AirHawk inflatable seat off another bike, keep it 1/2 inflated (so it’s mushy) and that fixed my sliding forward. Cheaper than a new seat. Thanks for the video, well-done.

Very much like the calm, collected and no-drama narration. I'm awaiting the delivery of 2014 model GTR 1400 next week and watching this video and hearing about the experience of 'Rider Obvious' has given me more confidence, although I am still a bit concerned about the weight. I currently ride 2012 Yamaha Fazer FZS 1000, which weighs around 235 kilos. It has no traction control or ABS. But, boy, can it go fast. 120MPH on 3rd gear, without a sweat. But, for rider and pillion comfort, I guess, I made the right decision. Fingers crossed, and can't wait to swing my leg over the GTR. Very much enjoyed watching this video. Looking forward to more GTR/Concours videos on this channel.

I have a 2008 , great bike, trips completed : Miami-New Orleans , then St agustine then orlando and back to miami. Miami Ocala. Miami-keywest Miami-Athens Georgia any many group 350 mile trips around lake Okeechobee and Naples. planned in two weeks Miami-StAgustine-Savannah Georgia. bought it with 7500 miles last year (apparently the last owner did not ride it upgrades: -rear mono lock 47L case with back rest. -25w x 2 LED Auxiliary lights.dual spot /flood -Throttle lock -Rim Reflectors -Sylvanas ultra white head lights -White city lights. -Saddlemen road Sofa seat (takes forever to break in, I would had gone Corbin if I could do it over. but better than stock) -Vstream windshield , this is a must! you can ride with the windshield bellow eye level and still leave your face mask open 90% of the time ! leave floats around your head perfectly and nothing gets in your eyes. -Life proof magnetic phone mount. -Radar detector mount -Tank bag. future upgrade:bolt on two brothers exhaust with DB killler. This is the bike that sport bikers buy when they are no longer trying to see how fast but how far they can get. I can also add that all the long distance trips I often hit triple digits in complete comfort !

Calsci makes a great windshield for this bike. I had one and loved it. I'm 5'11 and got the tall touring screen for my 08 when I had it. At interstate speeds I could hear the tires hitting the road joists because I just had no wind noise and no buffeting. Loved that Windscreen.

Nice vid! I ride a 2016 FJR1300. Next set of tires try the Metzler Roadtec 01 HWM (double carcus). The HWM stands for heavy weight motorcycle and it has a double carcus which adds to durability. I'm on my second set and love them in the wet and dry. On a trip from Texas to Canada, I rode through Kentucky in four hours of thunderstorms and heavy rain and at 60Mph never had so much as a twitch. I've gotten 11K miles from the rear tire and 13K miles from the front.

Nice to see someone from the Arvada and Hwy 72 / 93 area. I grew up in Golden and lived in Arvada, put many many miles on my Honda VTX cruiser. @@thomasbednar7475 my bike has nearly 50k miles on it. I never red line it, it’s best to keep it 500 rpm below. Keep it between 6.5 and 9.5k rpm in second gear in the twisties and it handles brilliantly. It is a heavy comfortable bike but it really surprises people just how good it is at speed. It’s not just a fast tourer.

@johnrowley4993 2 жыл бұрын
@@EEEBA1 hi mate, my bike is standard except for the silencer / muffler, and bar risers. I have an aftermarket silencer that saves a considerable amount of weight. Personally I think it enhances the handling, together with the extra leverage of the taller bars. I use Michelin PR 4 PR4 GT and PR 5 tyres. The road holding is superb. I’ve done really technical stuff in England Scotland and all over Europe. Also really fast sweeping bends, the bike is as solid as a rock. I do maintain the rear shock and linkages on the suspension, and I had new bushes in the forks. ( had these made, a seal failed and the ingress of grit caused the bushes to wear. Kawasaki only sell the entire unit)

Funny, but comfort was the main issue why I sold my C14. I just didn't like to do multi day trips on it. Short 4-5 hour runs to Vegas and it was a blast to ride and well suited for that, at least for me. But then again, I'm in my sixties now so maybe this wouldn't have bothered me 30 years ago. Great bike though. I went back to old geezer cruisers for the sake of comfort, lol.

Nice video and nice geography. I envy you the space that the US offers. In the UK only Scotland and parts of Wales have the same opportunities, although you can have some nice rides in the northern national parks. I have a Beemer roadster, which is great except for protection from the elements on long highway sections or in the winter generally. Would like something with a big screen but can't decide between a Kwacker like yours or maybe a BMW R1200RT. Yours is the better looking bike and more powerful, but the the RT goes further on a tank, has cruise control and is possibly a bit lighter. I'll make my mind up one day. In the meantime, enjoy yourself and best wishes from the UK!

Nice vid! I'm contemplating getting one since I like riding a lot. My biggest trip was 5, 400 kms ( 3,375 miles). On current ride which is a 2014 Suzuzki GSX650F. I now have just over 50,625 miles. My concern with the C14 would be tires since I go through a set on my current ride every year. I can get a heavy throttle hand at times too, lol! I'm hearing good reviews about the Dunlop tires you speak of. I have ridden my friends 2016 Concours 14 and felt right at home with it. :) It would be a huge up grade from a 650cc. Yet! What a blast it would be! Cheers and be safe.

I fill up at 200 miles always (If the fuel is available) I ride, because I dislike walking.... I feel uncomfortable at 200 miles, so 300 is pushing it. If you were easy on her, and had the wind at your back, you might get 300 miles in one tank of fuel.

@@MrKingkat The tank is rated at 5.8 gallons. I ran out once and didn't get that much in. On highways, I get around 35mpg so 300 is not possible for me. On the straight roads of Iowa, I see high 40's in ECO mode, but the speeds are lower and there are no hills. My ST1300 will go 300 miles on a tank, but it holds 7.7 gallons.

I've had the 08 and 09 C14, great bikes. I put the seat from a ZX14 on both of them, it slips right on and is much more comfortable to me. Interestingly the 08 would pull right up into a wheelie in low gear, the 09 would not. Neither had traction control or abs.
@RiderObvious
@RiderObvious 5 жыл бұрын
At a mile above sea level, you have to try a bit harder to get a wheelie. I often lift the front tire shifting between 1st and 2nd, but just a bit, as traction control shuts me down. I should see if I can find a zx14 seat, as the seat is my only complaint, and it isn't bad.
@Bass.Player
@Bass.Player 5 жыл бұрын
You should be able to find a near new one on eBay, that is where I bought the two I had. The factory seat will set your ass on fire after about an hour, the zx14 won't. (for me) I'm at sea level. The 2009 would carry the front wheel all the way through first but the 08 would flip over backwards if you just roll the throttle on. You had to really lean forward on the 08 and I pulled the secondary butterflies out on the 09 but it did not matter much in this respect. The 08 did not feel faster but apparently it was just slightly. I may get another c14 but I can tell you that I really don't like the FOB, I will take a key any day. hi, does the Concours have handle bar vibrations at freeway speeds? I mean 70-90 mph? It's a common thing on inline 4 engines and it concerns me, being looking at this bike. I had a 600cc inline 4 bike before, when accelarating it's all smooth, but curising at 70mph, the handle bar just kills my hand in 30mins

Dave M, It varies, but usually between 5000 and 8000 miles from the Michelin PR4s. These Dunlop Roadsmart 3s are exceeding that already, at the cost of a bit of confidence, as they aren't quite as sticky feeling. I haven't had one break loose, but it just has a different feel.

I do not agree with the gearing on the newer Sport Tourers. My old Honda ST is only an 1100 cc V-4 , but the gearing in 4th and 5th gear are both overdrive, which is fantastic for gas mileage and engine wear, not to mention the fact you can cruise at 75 mph, with low rpm's and no vibration. Bikes much newer, with much more power could easily pull higher gears.

Please Help!!!! I currently have a Honda VTX 1300. I love it for around town but on the interstate (we have 80 mph speed limits here) it is not very confidence inspiring. It just seems like it is working awfully hard. I have an opportunity to pick up a clean, low-mileage 2009 Concours ($4500) that has a few extras. I want a bike that is more highway friendly but also something I can ride as a daily commuter. Why should or shouldn't a guy buy this bike with the information given? Please Help!!!!
@RiderObvious
@RiderObvious 5 жыл бұрын
I'd see if you can get the 2009 for a better price, unless the extras are extraordinary. This is the most highway friendly bike I've owned. Easily will exceed 80 mph in 2nd gear, and will cruise at that speed in 6th very comfortably. It can be a bit of a heavy beast, so slow maneuvering can be a bit challenging, but nothing too hard especially if you are paying attention. It is sportier than the vtx, and I love the shaft drive for low maintenance. I can't give you a reason not to switch.

@RiderObvious

I would agree with you, but these are Road Smart 3s. The newest tire that supposedly competes with the PR4. They seem to be wearing fine. I've only ridden them this winter, so not super aggressive with all of the salt and gravel on the roads here. I'll hopefully know soon enough if they handle as expected. Hopefully, they wear as advertised. I got about 6K on the Michellins, and admittedly I didn't check tire pressures as I should have, and found them low a couple of times after some spirited riding. Pressure is the key on this bike. 42PSI cold on both tires.
