I have the same problem. Find my screw in the head. Thanks for your help!!!

Hello Jungle Bob. Several years ago,, I had a similar experience with a Kohler KT17 engine on a Ford LGT17H garden tractor in which I was mowing one afternoon and the engine immediately stalled and would not restart. As luck would have it, My uncle just happened to stop by and I was telling him about what happened with my tractor. He was very curious about my issue and started looking over the engine and decided to pull the right cylinder head and immediately found that one of the valves was stuck wide open when he was rotating the engine by hand. So, There was a screw lodged between the valve and the valve seat holding the valve wide open that was surprisingly not damaged at all and everything else looked surprisingly undamaged. My uncle took a pair of sharp nosed pliers and pulled out the screw. My uncle then reinstalled the cylinder head and cranked the engine to see if it would start and it ran really really crazy as I remember. It was then that my uncle shined a light into the throat of the carburetor and noticed that there was a missing screw. My uncle tried the screw that he had pulled from between the valve and the valve seat into the butterfly of the carburetor and it fit perfectly. My uncle told me that I had to be one of the luckiest people in the universe because when those screws hit the valves and piston that it usually causes lots of damage which could destroy the engine beyond repair and that the screw stuck perfectly to stall the engine. The engine ran okay after that incident in which I still have that tractor. It seems like when something like that with the butterfly screw falling out happens that things are almost surreal until you actually experience it. When I watched your video, I remembered my incident with my Kohler KT17 and thought that I would share my experience with you and everyone else on your channel.

Just wondering about the cause of the spark plug being gashed in. In video you added text about the plug not being exact one for that engine but you also mentioned "sabotage" so just curious about that. I had a Husqvarna with B&S engine where I had similar thing happen to a plug and never did figure out why it happened. Thanks for making your videos, very informative. A while back I bought a Cub Cadet with this Kawasaki engine for about $30 and could never get engine to start; then I found someone selling just the engine for $35 and went to look at it and it started right up, took it home, put on the mower and have not been able to get it to start again. Thus the reason I was happy to find your videos and channel. Thank you!!

I thought you were supposed to adjust valves TDC on compression stroke
@JungleBobRepair Жыл бұрын
You are but you can also adjust with one valve all the way open and one closed,been doing it for years.

Very interesting, JB. This is my second time of warching. When I turn the blade (on an OREC SH61H brushcutter with this Kawasaki KJ180V engine) the valves don't move!!! I've been watching other vidos where the guy turns the motor from the top but with this motor I think it would mean removing the cowling (?) so I just tried to do it your way. The motor turns over when I pull the cord so it can't be 'frozen' (and it actually runs for a second when I give it a burst spray of quick start.) Any ideas, anyone? An hour searching but no-one else seems to have this problem. Thanks.

I'm not sure but I think that has a blade brake clutch,so turning the blade doesn't spin the crankshaft.

Sounds like a carb problem,especially if it's been sitting.

@@JungleBobRepair Thanks JB. Meantime I've removed the cord case (??) off the top and turned the motor with the fins. Corrected one tappet by 001" -- just a tad tight si I don't think that's made much difference.

@@JungleBobRepair Thanks JB. Instead of giving the carb a bath I just ordered a new one 35€, arrived yesterday, and fitted. Despite having taken lots of pics, there is one thing I didnt notice -- a linkage with thin spring from the bottom of the governor -- I have no idea what to link the spring to on the carb. The manual shows the other link and spring (to throttle plate I suppose) but in that case it's obvious anyway) cos there's a slit for it. Hey ho, nothing on Internet. Tank drained, new petrol, new plug. Lots of arm exercise later, it coughed, started, and stopped. Would never run more than a few seconds. Removed petrol cap in case of air block... BAM!! It fired up but I had to keep moving the speed lever back and forth to try to keep it running... Hang on, I think it was at this point I removed the petrol cap. So now it fires up and runs VIOLENTLY, and pulling the speed lever right down, the speed won't decrease until I pull it a tad down to stop. So I'm thinking the governor, and will do some more research and have a go at that. Thanks again for your interest, JB!!

If that spring your talking about is on the linkage to the carb it hooks up in the same hole as throttle linkage.send me.some pictures. Bobbylett88@gmail.com

So I have a Xmark commercial push mower with the kawasaki fj180v engine. It died one day and I was never able to get it running again, it would start but then dies....so I put on a brand new carburetor and it started and ran for about 3 minutes then died and it's doing the same thing again, starts but dies....SO any idea what the problem might be? By the way I only use ethanol free gas.
@JungleBobRepair2 жыл бұрын
Did you clean the tank and fuel line when you replaced carb?
@antigobierno41552 жыл бұрын
I did not, but since I use ethanol free gas I don't have old gas build up issues.
