About to replace the oil on my GT550 and your video was very helpful in making the preparations. Would love to see some more maintenance vid's on the kawasaki, like for example the oil swap on the shaft drive. 👍

Tom van Oorschot thanks Tom. I’m glad the video was helpful. There’ll be more Kawasaki maintenance videos as things crop up. Unfortunately I’ve already done the shaft drive oil. It’s a simple job. If you can do the engine oil change then you can definitely do the shaft drive oil change. I’m away on tour on the Kawasaki at the minute. If you need any pointers with the shaft drive oil, give me a shout 👍

Just bought a 1983 one of these and tackling these bits of maintenance with your help so thanks. Keep the vids coming. It gives novices like me the confidence to try it (what could possibly go wrong lol)

Good work David. They’re solid old bikes. Easy to work on. Give us a shout if you get stuck. There’s an excellent group on Facebook that know just about everything too 👍 facebook.com/groups/644262668951064/?ref=share

All good but did not see you replace the smaller or ring on the central bolt . Just did my 750Gt , not quite as must rust on the twin exhausts as yours but the round headlight makes it look less of an old mans bike like mine .. R.S

You do oil and filter every 10,000K?

Nice bike! Would you recommend it? Did you change the headlight for this round one?

Thanks! Yeah it’s a good bike. It’s not perfect. What type of riding are you wanting to do? It’s super super comfortable and it’s been supremely reliable. It cruises effortlessly. For covering distance it’s brilliant, but it’s heavy so it’s not a fabulous city bike, and it feels a bit top heavy relative to something with a more modern design and wider wheels. I love it though. I’d jump on it and ride anywhere confidently 👍 The headlight was already switched over for the round one when I bought the bike, but I don’t think it’s original.

Owners manual text says tuna can goes on top of filter.

Hi Marvin. The service manual seems to suggest otherwise. I have a copy of the owners manual somewhere but can’t find it! I’m willing to be convinced if you’re able to drop us a picture of the manual on Facebook etc 👍

@@MechitBetter sorry, not on facebook but looking at my 82 gpz550 manual it says fit the filter cover on the bolt then the spring and washer next the filter element and last the element fence(tuna can) my 82 gpz 750 OM says the same except no mention of the can at all for installing. My ZRX1200 owners manual says the same as the 550 yet in its service manual there is a picture of the can on the bottom. My guess is Kawasaki got lost in translation when printing a bunch of the manuals but I'm still not sure which way is correct but probably either is ok.
