Kawasaki GTR1000 or Concours ZG1000 The Story

Here is the story of the full restoration of my Kawasaki GTR1000, another 'before youtube' video. Here I tell you the story that goes with this bike. This was a great bike but it was an interesting story to be told too.

98 owner here. I understand the love, they are one of the greatest vehicles ever. Whether it be to the shops, where the panniers make life easy, to a 1500 mile trip where the seat and fairing make it easy, to two up where the torque makes it a breeze. There is nothing the bike can't do and it does it so easily. Sure, rebuild the fuel tap, replace rubbers periodically but you can still get new parts in Australia from Kawasaki for my model. Mine will be with me until i can't physically ride anymore, even if i got another bike I will keep it with a historic plate just because it represents the pinancle of motorcycling in many ways.

About 10 years ago I bought a one owner 1990 model in beautiful condition. Simply loved the bike and I took me all round Europe, Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man TT of course... A fantastic machine but finally sold her as I'd bought a GTR1400.... Let me tell you the 1400 is a good bike but it's not half the bike the old girl was.. She's one of those bikes I really miss and regret selling... 🏁🏁🏁

Wow, yes yes yes I know exactly what you mean. I have had a few GTR's over the years, and when you try the newer stuff, it can't hold a candle to the original machine. I have had a lot of the oil head BMW's The first one the R1100 was fantastic, but the R1150 was not quite as good, the R1200 was a nice bike but left me wanting the R1100. So, I sold the R1200 and bought the oldest R1100 I could find. Superb!

The zg1000 is legend. I have ridden thousands upon thousands of miles on several of them, including towing a trailer, moto camping, two-up multi-state touring and extensive 1052 build-ups. You cannot go wrong with this model.

Hi, yes you are dead right these bikes are superb. When I had mine, many guys used to take the piss out of me. But, I like to tour. So, a 300-400 mile ride was normal for me on a sunday. The piss takers thought a 30 mile ride was 'big boy' stuff. As my mate used to call them; 'shandy drinkers'

That's a very long day's ride omg my longest riding day was 13 hrs back in the 80s when I was in my late 20s im now nearly 65 in August that was on a BMW k100RT

I owned a 2001 GTR 1000 in Brisbane Queensland it had 24000 KMs i owned it for 5 yrs before trading it on a new FJR 1300 06 which im still riding it was a pleasure to tour on without any problems i loved the 28 litre tank

Hi, yes I have had two of these bikes they are superb tourers. The only thing I think would have improved it was an electric screen. But apart from that a faultless design.

Nice restoration. That's my daily rider,same color also.1991 model,with neta pipes. Any idea where I might be able to get my hands on a left and right side cover panels that close the space where the pannier rails have bean removed,just beneath the seat?

Hi, yes I love the GTR1000 I have had a few of them over the years. Don't know off hand where you can get the panels to cover where the rails have been removed though. Just see if anyone who is breaking one may have them.
