I bought a brand new 2020 GTR 1400 (Concurs 14) off the showroom floor with zero miles for under $15,000 US dollars out the door! Not sure I could buy a new bike with all the electronic whistles for that kind of money. I regularly do 200-300 mile trips on it on the week ends, excellent motorcycle!

New bikes have more accessories and gadgets, but they won’t last too long, that mean more complex bikewill give you more problems. This Kawasaki has great leg protection,massive front and massive engine. This is not a bike for crying babies. It’s a bike for men.

Plus the only bike they said was relevant as a competitor prior to the H2 SX's arrival (of which the H2 SX is still inferior to the GTR14 in several aspects) is the BMW R1200RT. The thing is, they ramble on about gadgetory but even the R1200RT talk they came out with was a bunch of nonsense - there is no embedded gps system on them nor bluetooth unless you pay for it additional to factory standard options, which is the same for the GTR14.. the option is there to have things mounted after the fact...... but above and beyond any of that is that the GTR14 is hands down far more beautiful from any angle than the weird out of skew proportions of the bmws.. they look like an ugly old tramp with too much cellulite and fatty deposits bulging out in random places. The GTR14 is also far more aggressive and attractive than the FJR13's, ST13s and other relevant competitors of yesteryear.. the perfect balance of sports and touring rolled together. so what if the 'trend' is more toward cross country adventure bikes... trends are trends, they are not logic. In my world logic rules over trends. Too many sheep followers.. something people have generically been doing for thousands of years.

The 'simple' route that Kawi took with the GTR is exactly why I chose it over the BMW, ST1300, Triumph Sprint or the FJR. And I can't agree about it be tough to work into and out of a corner. I've found mine to be a breeze to 'flick' in and out of the twisties. I DO agree that it should come standard with cruise and heated grips but installing a throttle locker and grips myself were really easy and have made it as good or better than the other offerings out there and at a lower price all around.

Bluetooth, built in intercom hub, anti wheelie control, gps ready, electronic suspension, Traction Control... My multistrada does it all but at a price! Paid £12000 for it and now getting rid for a GTR1400 07 Model with 30k on clock, i can set both feet on the floor, tones of power, great handling, all day long comfy, dont have to take it to a scientist to have a service and a qualified ducati technician and pay £1000 for belts and service... Bloody amazing bike and ive had over 90 bikes in the last 10 years... second best was my zzr1400 but need a little more wiggle room now as getting on a bit. The presenter has been spoilt with the light fly by wire bikes on the market now! This is a true old school (Modern) Riders bike..

Had two, and my current ride. Total of 135000 Km trouble free. Try that on your BMW. Planted and stable fully loaded, 55 profile rear tyre transforms turn in, to be a lot faster. Unbeatable value for money re two up touring. I lane split daily, fully loaded. "Apparently" the Shoodabeen Tune transforms low and mid range grunt, plus some top end. Keep trying to replace it but rivals keep falling short on load capacity, range and value.

It's a SPORTS touring bike and this constant crying about no cruise control from some reviewers is a nonsense, I've never needed the need for it, and if you feel you do need it your throttle cable could do with a lube, the GTR is a fantastic bike with very little wrong with it and it is unfair to criticise because it is an older bike. They are now very well price on the second hand market and do an exemplary job for what they're designed to do. Making comparisons between the Gtr and modern BMW models is unfair as the Kawasaki is an old model and thank god as it won't suffer the expensive electronics failures that BMWs are riddled with. PS... Kawasaki sorted the heat problem with a new fairing, the very model you are riding so the problem doesn't exist....

The simple motorcycles are those that will always be there, those that will always have success, reliability, strength, comfort and ability to travel with half a house on top of your wife, making just 5.5 liters at 100 kms. I had it almost 10 years and never a single problem. Now I have a s1000xr but with so much technology, electronics and so on ... we'll see if it gives me another 10 beautiful years as my beloved GTR gave me, a wonderful machine. Motor journalists are very concerned about the latest developments and that they have the latest in the latest, but motorcycling is something else ... very different and this bike had a soul ...

so far I loved this show, but this latest-and-greatest madness they've decided to follow... tsk tsk tsk. At 5:14 the comment "10 years ago this might have been a perfectly acceptable touring bike". Perfectly acceptable? I've been lucky enough to drive everything on 2 wheels north of 600 cc for the last 10 years. Absolutely every single motorbike, and not just for a short test drive. Focus on touring bikes. Sometimes clocking 5000km in a bit more than a long weekend with passenger through the Alps, from Cote d'Azur to Bulgaria. This is the single most capable bike there is, no-nonsense motorcycle riding, except for the immature implementation of the KI-PASS. It can haul more weight than a K1600, accelerate harder, ride faster, costs a lot less, it's a lot more reliable (in fact, 100% reliable so far after 150 000 km), a lot cheaper to maintain, and a lot more fun to drive. When push comes to shove, there's nothing from any other brand that can do what this bike can for less money... or more. Then, at 4:53 you say there's no GPS preparation (there is a bracket from Kawasaki specific for this bike, and a 12V socket just next to the clocks), and worse of all, "there's no bluetooth". What for, if I may ask? Guys, really, take up on fishing. If you want an iPhone on wheels it's your business and I'm all for it. But leave us motorcycle lovers enjoy our passion.

I just bought a used 2017 model (4 days ago...). First GTR I've owned. From what I heard in this video I'm going to love this bike. I certainly don't need track-grade suspension. No cruise? Heck I'll get a throttle lock or something similar if I need it. It looks like highway pegs may be tricky to find/install. I'm a happy camper so far.

I have one just like this one, it does have traction control and two stage ABS. Mine has a 1/4" chicken strip because it handles really nice. I never noticed having to wrestle it at all. I guess if you are a girly man it might be? And Kawasaki fixed the heat on your legs problem in late 2009. I can't imagine two up on a H2SX for any distance, unless you and your rider are under 12 years old... However it is heavy, but it's a big bike...

I was just waiting to see the comments here after watching. I have faithfully ridden my 08 c14/gtr1400 for over 10 years. I had the updated (version 2 if you like) one of these (2010 on) and I agree in principle with most of your comments, yes it really does need updating, give it a bit more torque, another 20 hp, loose 20 kg, cruise control and cornering abs. Update the suspension with better componentry with an electronic option with chassis mods to lighten the handling. Keep the form factor, keep the motor (with updates) keep the shaft drive and one comment really puzzled me about the motor not being that smooth, in comparison to what, an electric motor? Yes my ZX14R is smoother but there’s not a lot in it really and the 14R motor is like liquid smooth! I know bikes like the H2 represent a new generation with all the goodies but there’s a couple of important points where the H2 falls short, critically in my humble opinion. First, not everyone wants the added over sophistication of supercharging when it’s not necessary and a lack of driveshaft in the touring market is worse than no cruise control in this style of bike. Then there’s the looks, the H2 is pretty damn ugly, even worse the a Hyabusa and that’s saying something, reportedly the fueling isn’t great and there’s the looks... yuk! If you want an H2 SX then great but I certainly feel there life left in the Concours/GTR recipe yet and ZX14R too for that matter, there’s nothing a new electronics suite and a good chassis fettle couldn’t fix.

Having owned three successive GTR1000s immediately after they were released in the U.K. all of those decades ago, but now being unable to find a great used example a year ago I purchase d a 2008 GTR1400 with 19,000 recorded miles. Alas it is not a patch on its predecessor, albeit much faster - at least the early 'full power' one is which I have as allegedly it has an undiluted ZZR1400 engine and gearbox. Somewhat academic though as one is unlikely to be exiting bends at very high speed unless intending to do jail time, or possibly wrapping yourself around a tree due to this tourer's high centre of gravity. Having said that such has a lower C.O.G. than my once owned ZZR1100s. On the positive side it possesses a very smooth and powerful engine and carries weight very easily, and just like the GTR1000s - copious amounts of luggage. It also manages to return 47 m.p.h. if you don't tear around. Unfortunately though it embraces many negative features:- (a) Seat height is massively too high for a 5ft. 9ins. rider, indeed positively dangerous. Machine height can be significantly lowered but not via manufacturer's adjustments. Significant expense is involved. (b) Just as many other GTR1400 riders report, the A.B.S. system varies from being extremely ill designed to faulty / dangerous. Mine was dangerous and I had to pull the A.B.S. fuse, and thereby switch to a 'normal braking' system, in order to make the bike safe. Why? Otherwise if one accidentally led with the front brake then one could almost be thrown over the handlebars even braking to enter a supermarket at say 5 m.p.h. Using A.B.S. the front brake was utterly savage and the rear brake close to non-existant. Removing the fuse (under the seat) restores sanity. (The A.B.S. system was thoroughly checked by a Kawasaki main dealer and declared to be functioning correctly)! (c) The windscreen is not wide enough, not the seat as comfortable as on the GTR1000. (d) The wheels and frame were only coated with one coat of watercolour. That invoked a great deal of outlay which should have been completely unnecessary. (e) The mudguards are completely inadequate, indeed in addition to two mudguard extenders I also fitted rear GTR1000 kit off a scrapped bike. (f) Unnecessary electronics potentially cause repair cost mayhem and are fitted in a way so as to cause maximum replacement expense eg. tyre pressure sensors. Instead of paying £250. / wheel to replace after their non-replaceable batteries failed I removed them on changing tyres. That removes the electronic warning signs. Just manually keep on top of tyre pressures in the normal sane way as we always did. I could write much more but this is a post not a magazine review. But hope it helps if you are considering buying one.

I love my 10 year old Concours 14/GTR1400. I have had her since shiny new. After a brief search, I found a non-abs bare bones, C14 still in the crate in 2008. I have never looked back on that purchase. It has proved to be a phenomenal motorcycle. I also have a balls to the wall non-abs Suzuki B-King that I stumbled on a few years ago with only 347 miles on the clocks. I find all the electronic "safety" electronics crap for bikes that are supposed to be about high-powered-edge of your seat-fun. I would not, however, mind cruise control on the old girl on those long cross country or freezing cold rides. Just over 50,000 miles on the old girl and runs like a champ. Oh, and I can go properply grocery shopping with the three panniers. The Concours 14 is a brilliant machine that has never bored me with around 90-plus ft lbs torque on tap. Average 45 miles per gallon. I will keep this motorcycle till the day I die.

First to comment! The GTR1400 and ZX-14R/ZZR1400 are both temporarily protected by the higher price of the H2-SX. But if other makers start competing with the H2 series, then all bets are off on price.

Bought my Concours 14 here in the US for $13,500 cash and added GPS ($600) and an exhaust and ECU flash ($1000) then added a nice touring seat ($500) and a MCCruise unit ($1000) after the first 3000 miles I added some good Michelin tires which improved the cornering greatly. So for around 17k I have what I consider a bulletproof, fast, awesome bike that does everything my friends 26k BMW does and I can outrun him anytime I want. Love old fashioned brute bikes! The new sissy bikes kind of make me sad for the next generation. Two genders is now 10 and other crazy crap. Good luck in the next 30 years, hope the world turns out OK. I will be gone then and my home on 40 acres will belong to my son.

I’m glad they updated it in 2015, but it still needs cruise control, which the Ninja 1000SX and Versys 1000 both have. I had a 2016 FJR1300 and many things about that bike (also updated that year) were more modern and better (cruise, LED lighting, electronic suspension, etc) , yet some people say the Kawi is still better to ride.

Thumbs down for this very poor review. I guess by the look of the reviewer it’s just too much bike for him. I currently own a 2015 model. This is my second 1400GTR. There the best value big touring bike available. I don’t want cruise control on a bike. Would never use it. More interested in 50mpg. Monster power. Great acceleration. Comfort. Panniers that compliments the lines of the bike. Fantastic build quality. Stunning brakes. Centre stand. Etc etc. Never had hot legs. He must have just read that about the older bike and thought he would tell us this bike has the same problem. It don’t! I should have turned the review off and read the comments from you people who actually know what your talking about, and ride the bike for longer than 10 minutes. Rant over.

My only request would be to bump up to the ZX-1400R dispacement. Keep the electronics off, it has enough, like traction control, anti lock brakes. Not many riders will ever ride hard enough to set off traction control or anti lock brakes at lean angles or even as a matter of fact ride in the rain. Read a map, it makes a person more connected to the environment. Shove the phone in a saddle bag. If I want to talk to people I will stay home and cook out. My 2010 C14 serves me well. Growing character with stone chips some small scratches with age but mechanically has never failed me. I may replace it in two years but I wont spend over 20K what 15K with saddle bags can do with a bike that not many can out run.

I've had my Connie for 2 years, and I ride every day to commute to work. Is a 2016 model and it has been very reliable. I've ridden so hard that the electronics kick in to prevent any mishap. I rode during heavy rains, very hot days, and swarm of mosquitoes, and this bike is soooo good!! All the power you need on command and more. It already has 30000 miles on it and no issues at all!! I'll definitely buy another dinosaur like this.

The traction control is your friend. Ride this bike hard, push it and it will remind you that much throttle input can break the rear end loose. This isn't a Harley, you may need to be reminded this bike is fast and if it happens to get slick out (ride long enough end you will encounter unfavorable conditions) the abs isn't a terrible thing to have.

The fact that this bike is so simple is the reason i like it... that being said it is due for an update. No need for electric suspension or rider modes. Just give it cruise control and make it lighter. Not every motorcycle needs to be a space rocket that flies itself. As far as the H2SX replacing this goes, i certainly hope not. The H2SX needs shaft drive, a way more comfortable riding position, and way more wind protection to be a replacement for a proper touring bike. Lets be honest with ourselves, the H2 is cool, but its an ego stroker, nothing more. At least not in any of it current iterations.
@Texarmageddon
@Texarmageddon 6 жыл бұрын
THe H2SX is more of a sport touring bike of today's market... The C14/GTR1400 is probably more of a touring bike in today's market. It's just too slow and heavy to fit in the lot of the rest of the sport touring market.

Hard to turn???? I love my Concours, and find that as long as you're doing an appropriate speed it has no trouble whipping around corners. And although cruise control would have been nice a $20 throttle locker off amazon and I was good to go. As for all the other electronics, I feel they're a bit unnecessary. But take all I say with a grain of salt, the Concours is the only bike I've ever ridden (Yes, it's my first bike. I only got my hands on it because it's a hand me down from my dad who just recently got a new bike.) so maybe it's just a personal bias of mine.

GTR 1400, LOVELY, almost certain, I'd need a Concours , to. Ease the Constant ACHE of Banditaholicism, ZX14 shaft drive?, what's not to LOVE. At least 58, 59 times more biking joy, than in 84 my nearly new Kawa.750 turbo, and yes much,much more top end, with the turbo, but as my B.T.E.Masters Degree taught me, sod top end speeds, ALL ABOUT THE ACCELERATION. Bandit Quickly gets over 80 mph, before the red line???, 2nd gear. 4th gear 6,500 rpm., said 92 mph, True mph 89 ???, Red lines at 12,000,? What no, WHAT no, yes. PERFECT Storm of ACCELERATION, in Bandit Time, right up there with Countless Blessed High speed Kawasaki rides. Sincerely Scott Loch. Na, Professor Bandit B.T.E., only nothing technical.oh yeah, had 4 KAWASAKI Shaft drive's, all Superb.
