I bought a 2017 Beta 300RR last April, its the best bike I’ve owned. It had a six month warranty I used to replace the oil seal on the crank shaft. Other than that the bike is flawless. I would highly recommend Beta.

It's amazing how all the little things can add up to a major difference. When I used to ride a sportster around all over the place, handlebars, forward controls, and a different seat made it bearable for me to ride it long distance. Haven't been on a dirt bike since 2004, but similar experience.

shadetree surgeon man I'd love to one of these days. Grew up with a Suzuki 100 or 125. I don't remember as it's been a century ago. Then when we lived in Arizona, I had an xr200r and I rode the shit out of it. Sold it to help move from Yuma to Tucson and never got on one again.

won't go far wrong with the Beta X Trainer, pretty much same as the RR I had but just an even lower seat height. Only bad thing about my beta I can even think of is the plastics are a little more rigid than KTM's so tend to break easier. I really miss my Beta :(
@HybridEdits6 жыл бұрын
You may have already thought of this but a 125 2t would be perfect for her. You can lower it and shave the seat down. Also she will most likely never out grow it (i know quite a few full grown adults who have 125s as their main bikes).

check out a v-force reed valve they are worth changing (serviceable item )and they can help with bottom end and help with throttle response..kx 100 ,i too have a kx 100 for my vertically challenged wife and she is doing ok on it .You are right its a scaled down mx bike and can go pretty fast they dont actually need much for most people but they are tuneable but for the most part make peaky power ,good luck with her off road adventures and i like the dog trainning vids too ..stay safe ..

Went to Tennessee Knockout last summer and the women that were racing were both on the Xtrainer. Believe they were in the mid to low 5' range. They both did much better than I could have done. Also, if she's having problems keeping speed and the kx100 running, possibly look into a flywheel weight. They tend to make them 2 strokes a little more trail friendly

Just a suggestion but it may be a good idea to take the outer suds out of the pegs, mind you because she is a novice rider she may fall and the studs like to grip legs

ive got a 1974 kawi g5 100cc..... its an enduro im 6 foot 5....and it still a blast! (but my knees are up high...but its comfortable) even that old rotary valve engine with no expansion pipe (11 hp).....it hauls ass around town if ya dont need to go over 45mph....its perfect exhaust note is actually kinda aggressive....its like a 4 stroke till ya hit 5000rpm, and then it moves up to like 7500, and runs out of revs its more of a torque "monster" over the high revving power of a kx 100 but...oil injected...pressure feed main bearings...... so you can engine brake or drive at one rpm on the street with no worries

i wear 12 and a half wide shoes.....still fit on the g5 but really....the g5 and KE100s (the ke is a g5 with more plastic) are great learner bikes, or a "do-all" for younger/shorter peeps parts are CHEAP (engine was the same from 74 till 96).....and it just has that....special thing....good cars and bikes have it doesnt feel like a dull modern 100cc learner bike 4500 total miles...2000 on the rebuild i did in my basement 900 bucks to buy, rebuild, and get "lifetime" on and off road tags ive got a shitty video of it on my channel....right after the rebuild and just after the video.... the piston chipped the skirt, but didnt do any damage to the ports (god does exist!) been meaning to upload the jump footage lol

I am 5'10" and I got a xTrainer last year because other bikes seemed so big. Great bike. Had Steilwell upgrade the forks but other than that it is stock. Bike is a little pricey but what bike isn't. Still a hell of a lot less than your KTM. It is still a tall bike at 7/8th of standard. Now that I am more experience size does not seem to matter that much. At 5'2" it is going to seem really big to her I would think. Smaller tires and lowering link would probably hit a sweet spot for her. I don't know how much handling performance she would loose with that setup. Women don't "generally" ride nearly as aggressive as guys so that may be the ticket.
@shadetreesurgeon6 жыл бұрын
Yes sir! Even with the stock height being lower were definitely going to need to invest in a lowering link for the xtrainer..
@spetzie55 жыл бұрын
A crf150rb would have been a good choice. You already have the power down low and right through the gear. If you change the pilot jet and run the bike slightly rich, the bike does not over heat easily and it becomes hard to stall. Plus in my opinion a four stroke is an easier woods bike to ride because of the more linear power. Note - this is the crf150rb ( a race ready mx machine) not the crf150f which is a beginner kids bike

Dang I didn't even Think about that! The wife has a dr200 which is still too tall, heavy, underpowered for a woods bike. 125 2 strokes are way too tall for her. I think something like a CR85 Big wheel or KX100 Might be perfect! Good info here man! I just ordered some steg pegs. like you said kyle hates them, but Barry from Cross training swears by them also. Lets give it a shot!

I've seen a couple come up for sale in the UK that are apparently road legal. I'm a stumpy numpty and although I loved the KTM 250 EXC f and the 200 EXC I had in the past, they were a little bit tall for me to feel confident on. I was quite tempted with the Beta 4.0 ALP which has a nice low seat and the engine from a Suzuki DR400 iirc, not quite as fancy as the 300 you guys are looking at but would be ace for the odd green lane adventure! :-)

Holy shit is a KTM300 really +8k? I'm 6"1 200lbs and would like a dirt bike or maybe a dual sport but would rather stay on budget around 2-4k is that not reasonable?
@zachzz126 жыл бұрын
3Shot Rocky that is a reasonable budget for a used first bike. I bought my first bike this past December, a 06 kx 250 for 2.1k. I sold it a week ago and just bought 12 Ktm 300 xc for 4k. I just took it out today for the first time and I love it(uploaded 1 lap). Generally you get what you pay for with used dirt bikes and should pay special attention to inspecting important parts of the bike; ie. swing arm bearing , cables, spokes, sprocket teeth. Best to have someone with experience go with you to make a first time purchase on the used market. Look for Smooth power delivery and no leaks. Have fun and go for it, I am glad I did
@Wooskii19 ай бұрын
I know this is old, and KTM is really expensive, but I recently got a '18 KTM 300xcw and it's just SOO good. I can't imagine a better bike for my riding type and dirt bike taste. I was even able to get a 100% legit MC plate just by walking into the DMV (the VIN came back as "Motorcycle") no loopholes, cheap plug and play lighting kit and it's just as legal as any other bike. Kick start with electric backup, wide ratio gears, good power everywhere with adjustable P.V. (both spring and preload) with on the fly adjustment makes it easy to dial in exactly how I like (moderate pipe hit) regular carb (Lectron is an option for elevation changes and supposedly gas mileage). The suspension is the best I've experienced, and it's "almost" as light as a 125 or 25p MX bike (can feel like one too😁). It's extremely hard to stall it, can tractor along or scream. I could go on and on... I was extremely hesitant to get into a Euro bike but it's been great so far, knock on wood.
