I'm 61 yrs old, have owned 29 motorcycles, but never had a Kawasaki. The 2024 model of this Bike looks Amazing in Gray/Black, NEVER that Awful Green. I love How Kawi always makes oil/filter changes so easy with no fairing removal. THis may be my Next Bike...Nice Video

Thanks! Yes, oil changes are super easy which I definitely love about these bikes. I like my 2021 that's pretty much gray and black, but I do like the ones that have that metallic green as accents (couldn't get it in the US). I don't like a ton of green, especially the fluorescent plain green.

Just saw your comment. You've certainly had some bikes! Did you end up getting a Kwaka? I love my 2015 Ninja 1000. The previous bike was a XX, but now in my mid 50s, it was too forward a position and got uncomfortable on really long rides. The Ninja just does everything so well - commuting in the city, quick blasts on narrow windy roads, long tours etc. Love it. Also had an ST2 which was fabulous, quirky and expensive to maintain (but that Desmo sound...). Anyway - hope you're having a great time whatever you're riding mate! Cheers from Sydney, Dave

@@deldridg I currently own a 2023 Triumph Rocket 3R, and a 2024 Triumph Tiger GTPro, and I’m contemplating on selling the Rocket, Amazing Bike, but hauling it in and out of my Garage is like Docking the Titanic every time I ride it. So I’m looking for something sportier, to contrast well with my Tiger. Ride safe as well, 👋👍

@@elithegreat6463 Love the Titanic reference - they certainly are beasts. Back when I had my XX, I almost bought a Speed Triple as a 2nd bike for more local scrapping. Now I'm far more mature (🤪), I'm considering something like a Tiger or an F900 GS and heading bush with a swag + maybe one of my kids, both of whom love to tour with me on the Ninja. Where do you take your Tiger? I've been watching an Aussie - Adam Riemann - sending it through Central Australia. That boy can ride and it's very inspiring stuff! @@deldridg I only take my Tiger on day trips, and ride down to my Jersey Shore House, about a 100 mile ride My Rocket is a Sunday Ride, up to the NY State mountains, find my spot with other riders, park it, then let other Riders gaze at it, and crowd around it, as I just sit back like a Happy father smoking a cigar with a smile on my face. Then I take it home, detail spray it, and wait till next Sunday

Yea, it's a bit different here in the US. We can do our own oil changes and it won't void the warranty.

Yes they are! Since this bike is so easy though I just get the Mobil 1 as they are cheaper, and after reading countless reviews and studies, provide better filtration. Here is one such post: davesoilchange.com/kn-oil-filter-vs-mobil-1/ So for the Ninja 1000SX - I do recommend sticking with the Mobil 1, as it is such an easy filter change, to get the better filtration.

What year is your bike ? I have a 21 sx and it says that the crush washer doesn’t fit my bike? Also does that crush washer fit the coolant plug too?

Mine is a 2021 as well. The coolant washer is a different, smaller size. The oil washer size is m12, it does fit, I use them.

Good basic video. I have had an experience in my 2022 SX where I had to “burp” the oil system on my bike. This was due to the oil pressure light not going off after starting it. The dealer said this was not uncommon and he does it every oil change on 1000SX’s. I do now too it’s easy and o good insurance policy.

This is common on these and the Versys. I have never had to burp it, but this Spring I'm going to do some experiments to maybe see if I can cause the issue and finally have an answer.

@@brianrourke3633 thanks for passing my channel along! As for the testing, I actually decided to do it very recently. People have been posting issues with the air block and needing to burp the filter more and more. I know it's the way Kawasaki is pulling the oil up to the pump, but the fact that me and some others have never had and when you search forums the recommendations are all over the place, something in my process must help alleviate that air block. People say to prefill the filter, but I never do. Some say to prime the motor (fire but don't start) but I never do. So on and so on, so I'm going to do things differently and see what happens until I get it to have the issue. I'm just worried I will never have the issue in which case I will continue to be baffled with no answers, so fingers crossed. Definitely look for the video around April or May. Failure or not I'll post it 👍

That rear stand does seem to be shipped to Australia. Any similar alternatives? Will also need to buy bobbins / spools separately isn't it?

Yes the spools are separate - any 8mm spools should work. There are many paddock stands out there but I don't have any recommendations other than the ones I use unfortunately. Sorry

Please please please have a video for changing the coolant. I can't find the plug to drain the coolant. I want to completely change coolant, because it's been almost 3 years. Or do I just need to top off? Thanks a lot.

After three years you must replace - the lubrication within the coolant breaks down and will cause the water pump to fail. The good news is I will be doing a video on this. The only issue is I was waiting until pre-Spring during my annual maintenance as mine will hit the three year mark then. Pushing it a few months shouldn't be an issue if you're able to wait till then.

How much oil did you need dude? Did you have to "burp" the oil filter? My 2020 1000sx has its oil pressure light on and Ive no idea why. Ive even changed the pressure sensor. At my witts end now 😂😢

4 quarts on the dot. I did not have to burp the filter, but the filter burping is a random variable (doesn't happen all the time). Did you burp your filter? Is the pressure light on solid or does it go on and off while riding? It's possible you have a loose wire or defective wire. Trace the wires from the sensor all the way and make sure all connections are free of dust and not corroded.

Thanks! For your question, I am going to need a little more info. If you are asking how many liters of oil for the 1000SX, it's 3.8L with filter change. If you are looking for something else, please expand on the question. I haven't had to top off the oil, and I've only done 2 changes on this bike so far (7.2L) with another change coming prior to riding this Spring as I picked it up Spring of last year.

I changed the oil and the service light is there. I did the turn the bike on and losen the filter but no luck. Any idea how I can remove light? 2020 ninja sx 1000

I believe you can ride around for a little bit and it will go off or disconnect the battery for five minutes then hook it back up. This is a glitch I've heard about but have not heard of a definite solution nor have I experienced it. If both of those fail let me know and I will dig further

I am going to keep digging! Right now the only thing I can find is the entire assembly with both headlights for over $1000! I will continue looking because frankly, they are lousy on the low beams. Can't see anything around turns, you're essentially guessing! High beams light up decent, but doesn't work when you are dealing with traffic. I am also looking into an aux light solution that I can point down to the sides of the road. Will see what I can find, but again - the only part I am finding from Kawasaki is that entire assembly which is a tad ridiculous - so I agree with you on the conspiracy!

How do I drain the oil safely, without wasting alot, if I have overfilled it?

Do you have a pneumatic pump or a hand siphon pump where you can pump it from the fill area? If not then I recommend getting a clean bowl or something to catch it and just carefully remove drain bolt so it comes out slowly. Or if you have a big enough clean contain, drain it all and place back in the quarts and start over.

Is this allowed? Doesn't you have to do service at an authorized service shop for Kawasaki? At least here in Sweden that is very important that you do that every year, to get all the stamps in your service book. Or else you can forget about ever selling that bike again. This sucks.....because it cost like $3-400 every year...... :-/

In the US you are allowed to do your own service and it cannot void your warranty, unless of course gross negligence with the service such as putting brake fluid in instead of oil.

Luca - I apologize for the extended time in getting back to you on this one. I have the video and am working on processing it. It will drop this Friday. In the meantime, if you still have the light and believe you have corrected the problem, you can do the manual process: 1. From off position, turn on and start the bike 2. Let it idle for 30 seconds 3. Ride it for 10 minutes. 5 minutes must be over 25mph (40kph) 4. Park and turn it off completely (not the kill switch, turn the key off) 5. Repeat steps 1-4 three times 6. The fourth time the code should be gone assuming the issue is corrected

Factory recommendation is 20w-50 if the temperature gets over 104F/40C often, but doesn't get cooler than 32F/0C. 10W-40 stops being recommended at the 104F/40C temp range. When you don't use the proper rate for your climate you can end up with oil getting too thick so it doesn't pump and lubricate properly and stresses parts in colder environments, or running too thin and having excess consumption, added friction and burning of the oil thereby damaging the engine over time. While 10W-40 has the widest usage range, you still want to use the proper oil for your environment so your motorcycle engine lasts as long as possible.

That's an old myth and irrelevant for sideways or upside down filters. The oil is lubricating the components the entire time even when it fills that small filter up. Just because you remove oil doesn't mean everything is suddenly not lubricated. Plus a good oil can hold up for a while (as in if you lose all your oil the engine will survive without harm until the remaining oil breaks down and burns up)
