Not to mention handling and flickability are amazing! Ive seen 100's of videos on this bike but Mr. DIY is by far the most user friendly for us old timers that like to fix and maintain our own bikes, cars, etc.... Thanks man! I left bad gas in my ninja and it would only run 40 mph at full choke. I followed this video, and now it works great. I had some difficulty to put the black tops on the carb at 20:15 the rubber kept pinching. The trick is to wiggle the top in a circular motion in order to tuck in the rubber diaphragm. The idle jets were hard to remove. I had to file down a screwdriver (like you did). I did not take apart the fuel pump or the air/gas mixture screws.

Same issue again with the clogged carb. This time i said nope, not sending this off for another $400 bill. So i took it apart myself and cleaned out the jets and all fuel passages. Very good video but two things I feel you missed one as you pointed out about halfway through but you addressed at the end is how the carburetor float needles love to leak the true proper way to test them is spend the money get yourself a mighty vac vacuum pump tool where after you reinstall your floats before you put the bowl cover on you can flip the carburetor upside down put a pound or two a vacuum on it and then let them sit and do a leak down test to make sure they truly close and you won't have a small amount of gas leaking through And other connected to the same area is getting a carburetor float height tool which measures how much gas actually sits in the carburetor bowl before the floats close off If your floats are too high you let too much gas in bike runs like crap if your floats are too low won't get enough gas runs like crap because it's running lean float height tool need to be made or buy a cheap one on eBay for 10 bucks but either way need to keep the float height set at 17 mm plus or minus 2 mm to get these carbs to run right.

Any tips on getting the air box hooked back on to the other side of the carb?

I have a 2001 Ninja 250 - just rebuilt the carbs with new gaskets/jets etc. I have an issue I was trying to fix but this didn't work. So, it starts and idles then after a random moment it speeds up on idle to about 3-4000 rpm. I lower the idle with the adjuster then it goes to sub 1000 rpm. I then turn the idle back up to 1600 and it stays for a minute then jumps back to 3-4000. Also, I give it some revs to possibly get it to idle down and that's when it happens - gas pours from the carbs. If it's on the side stand, it's the left carb. The floats seem to be at 90 degrees and they are new gaskets. I am at a loss so I ordered a new Vacuum Petcock in case the diaphragm is sticking. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Matt P.S. Great video....I did sync the carbs and also the o-rings on the cross-over tubes are good. Aside from this it runs great except for the damage to my driveway...LOL

I’m thinking that one float could possibly be cracked and fuel is inside it keeping the float pulled down and not allowing the needle to come up and seal the seat area. Also making it run the way it does maybe? Just my guess though. It’s all guesswork to me. You could take it out and swap them and see if the other side does it, or just replace both floats and try again. Not exactly sure though. Hope this might help.

Or, where the float connects to the carb is dragging and hanging up keeping the float from sealing. Check the needle tip and carb seat area and make sure they are perfect and clean.

Also, I had a needle drag where it slides in and out of the carb. Had to clean those spots with a q-tip. And see if both floats are at the same level when all the way seated and all the way down.

Bought a used 250 to learn on and outgrew it quickly. Upon further inspection I realized the boots from the air box weren't hooked up and a previous owner had put the long bolt in the top hole. Any tips on how to fix the leak? I've got Teflon tape on the bolt threads but it's not perfect.
