As much as I looooove the idea of the zx4rr I really don't think one can justify it's price. It's waaay overpriced. Plenty of excellent-condition zx6r around. Way better bike (I mean even a new zx6r is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better value than the zx4rr!). Financially it's just a dumb proposition. I have a 2011 Honda CB400 and 1997 CBR250rr ... I have my fill of small displacement 4-cylinder bikes. The zx4rr will have a very short shelf life. Kawa will stop making it in about 3 years. It's pointless.

Screaming a 4cyl on the street without getting the fear of being eaten by the ground is a different kind of fun. I love how you've been so dedicated to create a long term review for this bike. There are ups and downs, of course. But the fact that you've spent a year on this bike and just kept on going with the long term use just shows that the ZX-4RR is definitely fun to ride. There's still a room for improvement and I'm hoping to see that on the future generations of the ZX-4RR. But slapping an aftermarket exhaust, aftermarket accessories, and workaround on the ECU absolutely placed the ZX-4RR in a very unique position in the sports bike world. That's my dream bike now for sure. Well, BMW S1000 comes in a close 2nd for me lol.

Same with those huge tuned V8 muscle cars that are just as loud. Great video! My Zx4RR has the same issue using the quick shifter from 1st to 2nd gear. Sometimes too much that I've gotten used to clutching into 2nd to avoid accidentally getting into Neutral. Unfortunately, purchasing a Sato Racing Shift Spindle Holder did little to correct the problem. Sato's rearsets do transform the bike a whole lot, if you're looking into getting a more aggressive feel. Over all, love my 4RR in junction with the M4 low profile full exhaust and a tune. Can be a bit obnoxious but ear plugs cancel most of it out.
@themrch4oskol2067 ай бұрын
Hey, this might be an issue with your throttle position, atleast it has been a couple times for me. So here is an example scenario, where I had troubles upshifting. Im in 1st and go to 30mph or so, which is the speed limit. Then the throttle valves are quite open to pump air. But since 30 is the speed limit, I wanna reduce throttle and shift up a couple of gears. I think the bike/quickshifter does not like it when you wanna upshift but also reduce throttle input. For me upshifting has been most smooth with constant throttle application. I can go from 1st to 2nd without much "kick" so to speak just with constant throttle and a soft gear input. For me shifting with the quickshifter works best, when I do this: - For upshifts mostly constant throttle application and soft gear input, so not going off throttle quickly after the gear change or before it. - For downshifts no throttle input and hard gear input. For downshifts i really slam the lever quick, hard and with intention. Granted I have restricted mine for my european license, but this may still apply to you. Safe travels!

Howdy, I had a Ninja 400 that I had converted to full track bike that also had the missed shift issues. The missed shift issue happened before I put in a quick shifter and after. A clutch detent spring seemed to handle it. Maybe Graves has one now for the 400RR? Otherwise, maybe your local shop can dial in the quick shifter or find a fix?

I'm going into my third year of owning a Ninja 400, I'm looking for something new with more power but it seems like the market doesn't really have anything for me. I'm not really sure I want a 600, and they are a bit more than I'd like to spend, the tier just below that with the R7, GSX-8 etc are really appealing but having a parallel twin is a complete deal breaker for me. I think I might end up going with a naked bike like a Z900 even though I'd prefer full fairings. Any suggestions?

I've notice, with mine, if you don't have the throttle completely closed it doesn't wan to down shift. I installed a steering dampener on mine and it holds the line better in curves.
@themrch4oskol2067 ай бұрын
I think the expanation for this is that, since you want to go at the same speed the bike needs to raise its rpm accordingly to make the gear change smooth. For this automatic rev matching to occur, the Ecu needs complete control over the throttle valves. But since your throttle is still open, you still have control over the valves and they are sort of locked. With no throttle input, the Ecu raises rpm accordingly with adjusted throttle position and fuel injection to match.
@ScoutsOut7 ай бұрын
Yea, that could be it for me. I just put a steering damper on my r7 and love it, I will have to add one to the 4rr soon as well.

Yea I hear that man, my ears are bad too. I sadly just started wearing earplugs as I don’t want them to get any worse. When you say the R7 is faster do you mean quicker to get up to speed, or faster top speed as well? I had a 2015 FZ07 in 2014 and I couldn't get that thing past 225kmph, it was a bit of a dog after like 140kmph. I did love that bike, I'm not trying to down talk it. I found it was competitive and a little quicker up to 120 against 600cc sport bikes, after that they would just make me feel like I was standing still.

Great quick review! I really like the color scheme on the KRT editions, especially the new ones with the ZX7 graphics. My 22 400' has the KRT graphics. Just from looking at it, the seating position is like the 400. I agree with you, its kinda of slippery and pushes you right into the fuel tank! Not the biggest fan of it, for obvious reasons. Still a comfortable bike. My biggest complaint has to be the price. It's right there with better equipped and more powerful bikes. I mean look at what you get for less than a thousand more in a street triple 765R. Yeah, it doesn't have a fairing but man everything else, just makes the ZX4RR seem way overpriced. Still the high revving inline 4 sounds great and kudos for Kawasaki at least giving us something that is a lot of fun! Now, let see if Honda is really going to give us the CBR500RR inline screaming 4! Good time to be a motorcycle enthusiast, thats for damn sure! I'm glad you're keeping it because it really looks like a fun bike. I feel the same way about my Ninja 400 Of course I didn't leave mine stock!
