2001 Raptors which were the first year of production are the only model with 2nd gear issues. Yamaha addressed the problem in all other models. They are known for the one way starter bearing failing but there are aftermarket replacements for them. Otherwise Raptors are bulletproof! I own a 2002 since new with zero issues. Yoshimura exhaust, pro flow intake, and rejetted and noticed very significant performance increase.

Keep the ex400. You know it's a solid bike you fixed and will never leave you stranded, and will just get harder and harder to find. A nice ex400 is going to be what a nice trx250r is to us now not to many years from now im guessing. Nice to see your sitting on a nice stable of rides. Find a atc350 if you can also a 87-92 Suzuki 250ltr if you ever can.

I have a 2001 Raptor 660 that I bought brand-spanking-new. The 2001 is the only year with the bad tranny, they corrected it after that year. I can tell you this, win or lose I would keep that tecate all day long! Not sure if it's the old school in me or what, but that Kawasaki kicks ass! Trade my Raptor for any day of the week!

It really takes a 660 four stroke to slowly overcome a old 250 2 stroke

The raptor would really smoke the 2 stroke with pro flow kit, jetted and Curtis sparks pipe. That alone takes it from 35hp to about 48hp. The air box on 660 is really restrictive.

@@ajgreen868 dont get me wrong i love 2 strokes. I got a yz250 2 stroke, had a raptor 660. it is what it is. now the dirt bike might be a different story but the raptor would smoke it on the top end. I had the speed limiter on the 660 removed, it would do 80 easy even with the limiter. the yz250 only does 74.

I got a 02 660 I bought back in 2010. Only problem I had was bolts on the starter clutch coming loose. Got a used l&a with flywheel years ago. No problems since. Get a banshee, that's the only reason I would sell it.

There is no such thing as a 750 raptor only 660 and 700, and only the raptor 660 2001 had tranny issues on the 2nd gear after that they were fixed and very reliable quads

Scored me a kawasaki prairie 700 v twin team green edition, only has 1100 miles and is in beautiful shape. I love it but the day I got it the mechanical seal in the water pump went out so I really haven't got to rip it yet. Felt strong tho. Idk if it'd take my old Arctic cat 700h1 tho...those quads are mean. Mine would run 73 stock and wheelies were no prob. Hoping this Kaw will do as good. The SRA seems like it'll be fun lol

Honestly on smaller trails where you can't just run wide open, I think the Tecate might win. The Raptor doesn't pass it for a good few gears. I think I would choose the Tecate in that situation. Although I am not sure if the handling on the Raptor might be a little better or not. That might make a difference.

I definitely feel like if you let the 2t rev out another 800-1k rpm, the raptor doesn’t have a chance. If u listen to how far you rev out in first gear, I feel like your not going as high in 2nd 3rd and 4th. I demand a re-do!!😂😂 Get an Amazon tach that wraps around the plug wire so u don’t over rev it if u were worried, that would be a cool addition actually. The $150 Vapor tach, mph and odometer. I don’t see you selling this set up anytime soon, might as well make it yours. Lol
