Norton, back in the 70's, developed a 2 stroke twin, called the Wulf, with which, to improve emissions and consumption, had one cylinder scavenge the exhaust for "reburning" if you will, of the other. Performance was reckoned to be comparable with the Suzuki 500 twins........ Love the thought of something like that..........

@@bikerdood1100 Years ago I saw a spec for a 50cc Motobecane moped that had a second piston that acted as a compressor. Something like this could be done to effect the scavenge portion of the cycle. It could also act as a balancer as well. Many years ago I was a Detroit diesel tech for the 71 series. They were used a lot in marine application and dump trucks because of the power they made in the 3000 to 4000 rpm range. I still love to hear one wind up!

@bikerdood1100Күн бұрын
Well that’s a very involved question Emissions regulations is most often given as a reason but of course there’s way more to it Despite their reputation 2 strokes while having a shorter engine life are very tough beats that don’t need a lot of maintenance This means they don’t bring in a regular income for the dealerships or the makers in anything like the way a big 4 stroke does This may seem cynical but How much does a cbr1000r or Africa Twin cost for a major service
