Hi, I own a Versys 1000 SE GT 2022. Speedshifter and electronic damping, and I love it, beautiful looks, good seating position and a really good tourer bike, I'm 55 years old and don't need 200 horsepower, or a sitting position that means I'm lying on the fueltank. I am 100% satisfied with my Kawasaki Versys 1000 SE GT 2022./ Rogga Sweden.👍👍👍

Hi 👋 I get exactly where you are coming from and I could not agree more. I am somewhat younger in years, however I already appreciate an up right riding position and the Versys 1000 has more than enough power. Its about how you use it, not how much you have 😉 Great to hear that you are enjoying your Versys. All the best

I came back to biking two years ago after nearly 30 years away. All the advice was, buy a small twin or triple, don’t go too big. But they all felt too light and uncomfortable, and the engines felt lumpy and rattly, and easy to stall at low speeds. I went to a Kawasaki dealer to try the Versys 650 (another twin), and after hearing my problem he suggested I try the Versys 1000. Well, it was like night and day. A big, stable, comfortable bike with a lovely head up, high, riding position, and above all a super smooth engine. So easy to ride and never felt like stalling or that it would snatch the clutch. Suddenly I realised why I loved my previous Suzuki GS850. You just can’t beat a four-cylinder Japanese motor. I’m old enough to remember how the Honda CB750 overnight made all previous engine layouts look outdated, and that feeling is still with me. But each, of course, to their own. That’s the great thing, as bikers we have so much to choose from!
@redangrevival

Great to have you back biking again 👍 Yes each to their own I suppose, but I do not exactly what you mean. If you want a smooth engine, then a Japanese 4 cylinder is hard to beat! They just have that premium feel to them. Good choice going for the 1000 model, you shouldn't get bored of the power too quickly! Cheers and I hope you continue to enjoy your return to 2 wheels!

I got the 2022 SE a few months ago. I am 5' 10" and had to get the lower seat as I destroyed my ACL last year and needed to flat foot this bike. Excellent front breaks. Lovely and comfortable for 4 hour plus journeys. Never broken up after long journeys on this bike. Still 50/50 on it's looks but the main reason I bought this was for comfort and reliability. Cracking bike

@Penndennis Hi, the NT1100 is another lovely bike quite similar riding position to the Versys but honestly I didn't see one first hand. Was between the Versys and the Africa twin. The 21inch front wheel put me off there. Looking at the GS as well but I believe the Versys engine is more reliable than the BMW GS. I could be wrong but the Versys has given me zero issues in the last 12 months.

Just finished watching your video. Excellent review and I love your colorful British descriptive adjectives! I purchased a new 2016 2nd generation Versys 1000LT in June of 2017 for the paltry sum of $10,500 US dollars. I love the look of the Versys, but waited almost a year before purchasing because I never saw any on the highways in Southern California. The only reason I thought they weren't selling is that the Versys is a bargain basement Sport Tourer and you're right, it is not an adventure MC. Most people who are looking at this type of MC are probably over 40, have some money and are looking at the BMW GS1250, RT1250, Ducati Multi Strada and KTM 1290. All of them with more HP, more electronic features, electronic suspension and with the BMW's, shaft drive & electronic windscreen on the RT. Of course they are thousands of dollars more. The remodeled Versys in 2019 closed the gap and still is $3-4000 less. The one factor that you didn't mention is the reliability of Japanese products. I have never spoken with a BMW, Ducati or KTM owner who hasn't had issues, both big and small with their MC's.Cost of ownership is the price you pay for European MC's. I have almost 60,000 trouble free miles on my Versys with only routine maintenance. I'm on my 3rd set of tires, 3rd set of front & 2nd set of rear brake pads, and 3rd chain & sprockets. The OEM chain lasted 33,000 miles. The 3rd chain & sprockets were just installed at 57,000 miles. The original battery is still registering 13.5 volts. I'd like to see Kawasaki add another 20-30 HP, a single latch windscreen adjustment as you mentioned and possibly a shaft drive. Another thing I love about the Versys is it's rarity. In 5 years of ownership, I've seen maybe 15 on the road and 3 of those were in Italy. That's why you can get excellent deals. I do plan on purchasing another Versys 1000, hopefully when some of the aforementioned items are added. I completely agree that the Versys is a very underrated sport tourer, so let's keep it a secret! : )

👍 Many thanks and really pleased you enjoyed the review! Haha yes I get a bit carried away with my descriptive sentences some times. Sounds like you have had a great experience with your Versys, that is brilliant to hear. You are absolutely right about the reliability of Japanese motorcycles, I used to own a Yamaha Tracer 700 and it was amazing, never had anything go wrong with it. May you continue to enjoy your Versys for many miles to come. All the best

Japanese motorbike are usually really reliable. As owner of many Italian motorbikes (i have a Multistrada 1260 today) I can say that I have never experience problems with them just ordinary maintenance. One of the secret is to let do the maintenance to the official officine only. I hope my advice would be useful for you all. Greetings from Tuscany. Thanks for the video! ✌️

I had a ride on a Kawasaki Z900RS a couple years ago and yes, they seem to know what they are doing with their IL4 engines. No problems with the looks of the Z too… what a stunning looking bike! The Versys is no beauty but there’s definitely a market for this. It seems like a jack of all trades with the high and upright riding position and the smooth IL4. I've got a 2015 Gen 2 1000 GT. That engine is an absolute peach. Pulls like a train from tickover, with no snatchiness at low revs and the howl from the standard exhaust above 5000 rpm, is addictive. I've also got a 31 yr old ZZR1100 and a 1050 Triumph Sprint gt so, I know the Versys is not lacking in power and, though I've had the standard seat reworked, it's just, all day comfy and will do 220+ miles between fill-ups. Me and wifey went on honeymoon on it to Southern Ireland 5 yrs ago. 1500 smiles in a week, no problem. All in all, a brilliant fast, comfortable tourer. Love it

I own a 2022 SE LT+. Silver and Black. Love it. It's fast and luxurious. Very stable at high speed on the motor way. Very capable in twisties and fast sweepers. Its missing heated seats, backlit switch gear, about 30 HP and 15-20FT torque. So I'd say mine is more expensive than it should be based on the Bikes it wants to run with. If you get the revs up she's a real screamer though. All that said I still love it. But I will be trading it in for a 2023 1290 SAS mostly likely. You only live once and not having owned a SAS once in your life seems a waste :)

👍 Well said, that is exactly the vibes I got from the bike. A lovely smooth and premium ride that can handle a twisty road well. I suppose a bit more low down torque would be nice, but that is the trade off with an inline 4. You certainly won't miss that torque with the SAS!! Absolutely got to be done, the SAS is an absolute blast. Enjoy

Good review and covered exactly the points that matter. Most in line 4 cylinder engines will produce more per cc than their twin cylinder counterpart by virtue of revving faster. That inevitably reduces the low and mid range. My last 4 was in 1986, a BMW K100RT. It replaced a tired R100RT. It was a nice bike in many ways but I missed the twin’s low end and the 4 seemed busier. There is much talk of torque (ha) but very little of torque curves and there lies the key to the differences in engine characteristics. For me, tractability is key and that takes me to twins. That said, I’ve just ridden a new Triumph Tiger 900 and was staggered by it’s low end grunt. What I don’t like is the artificial vibration caused by the new crank. Keep up the great work!
@redangrevival
@redangrevival 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, many thanks great to hear that you enjoyed the review 👍 Yes I suppose it depends on your riding style and what you are looking for from your bike. I think I naturally lean on the side of a twin and more lower down torque! However whenever I ride a 4 cylinder I am just so impressed with the smooth characteristics of the engine and the exciting top end. Same I was really impressed with the Tiger 900, a fantastic bike and engine. It does seem to have a little bit of the best of both worlds! Many thanks.

I changed the screen to ermax sport screen, to much wind buffeting on my helmet. The good lady really like the pillion seating. I had to get a lower seat from Kawasaki in newbury. great service). I have a tracer 900 abs 2015 currently for commuting and solo riding. Top end is not needed, the low end of rev range is just spot on. It a mile muncher at a real world speeds while two up. I never could ride a sport bike bec I hate the seat position. So I’ve never really got to enjoy a 4 cylinder engine. BUT this Versys is perfect 👍. I could ride that! I sat on one but didn’t ride it. Only thing I didn’t like was the seat felt hard as a rock. But I’m used to a touring seat on a harley

I have a '19 SE, bought in late 2020, that I've put ove 25,000 kilometers on. I agree, it's a great bike especially on the highway and faster back roads. Handling from the semi-active suspension is excellent and the bike performs well in the Twisties in sport mode. Engine is really smooth and powerful. Turbine like. Often I will forget to shift because I don't notice the revs. Two-up riding with luggage is a pleasure. My only complaints are the windscreen's adjustment mechanism and the fueling which is a little in the lean side. Throttle response is smooth but I can sense a bit of surging at lower revs.

I have a 2021 SE version and I agree with pretty much everything you said. It is a sports tourer, you wouldn't take it off-road, but I'd bet that most "adventure bike" riders don't ever go off road either. Looks nice to me but I don't care what it looks like as long as it rides well which this does. Likes - range, I get 200 miles per tank, wind protection, handling, comfort, smoothness, engine sound. Dislikes, semi-active suspension, long thin key easily bent especially in the filler cap, screen adjustment as the locking knobs always seem to come loose and rattle causing the screen to drop to its lowest position, corrosion if you store it outside even with a cover on, and like all adv bikes it's a b**tard to clean! Pros far outweigh the cons though, I Love it, and that engine turns heads!

I prefer these in the 650 parallel twin set up. I have a 2011 version and its been slightly modified because exhaust decided it wanted a big hole in it lol. Mines got 50,000 miles on it and just gone in for engine rebuild, weirdly worked even though id broken it. Its a bike that would normally last further than 50,000 miles but like i put, it had some work done to it, also i ride every day and on days off from work put about 400 miles on it just ragging it about through country lanes at quite a high speed, for any officers wanting to know how fast, erm 60mph, because speed limits, but doesnt mean im gentle to 60mph, i cant get my bikevto 60mph almost instantly lol. Big difference between mine and newer models is mine has no assists what so ever, no ABS, No traction control and the grip for thr throttle is directly connected to the engine so i put power on and its going to go. I think theyre brilliant bikes. I've heard that the newer versions of the versys (after 2015) 300, 650 and 1000 all accelerate relatively the same rate as each other, the 650 in my opinion is the better option because its light weight, peppy and will run forever... unless its mine, then itll run until the oil arms break, piston wears down, piston rings turn to powder and cam chain comes loose, but i literally chase 1000cc sports bikes on mine because its funny trying to explain why i kept up but also hard to explain why i kept up. I love my own versys more than my old TDM 900. The TDM 900 was good in straight lines, but bad in turns, the versys 650 i ride is good on both straight runs and twisties, but bad on motorway because i get bored on motorways and while not the bike at fault, i end up just blipping throttle or tend to just slouch down and try getting comfy. They do a stupid amount of miles to the tank which i love too. I can go from near Manchester to Coniston in lake district on about half a tank of fuel, going through Sabden, the A59, Sawley, Giggleswick, Wrathmel, A65, Kirkby Lonsdale, Winderemere and then the twisty back roads to lakes, keeps at a decent speed too.

It’s not an adventure bike, it’s an adventure styled bike. Kawasaki never intended it to be ridden on anything other than asphalt, hence the cast wheels and street tires. IMHO, the reason they’re so popular is because they’re all day comfortable with a neutral riding position.

Dang. What is it with Kawasaki and their current stubbornness with that on-brand naff green, to use its official Pantone name. Seems to be a recent thing? I’d quite fancy this in a deep bottle green/gloss black if green is non-negotiable. Frankly any colour that helps divert attention away from duck face.

👍 Fair enough, looks can be so subjective to each individual! I am not a fan of the looks haha. Exhausts are big and ugly these days because of all the equipment they have to fit in them to meet emissions regulations. A shame, but I suppose it does help to save the planet! Can always switch it out for something nicer 😁 Cheers

I don't know if it is underrated or testriding it is impossible in my country. When I want to test BMW, Triumph, KTM, Honda or Yamaha I just call the dealer and take bikes for the spin, one by one. That way I bought KTM. When I try to take Kawasaki or Suzuki I have to pay deposit, pay for testriding it. It just repels me.

This is not a single guy's motorcycle or even a middle class bike. This is a "I'm a married professional, I don't need this much motorcycle but I can afford this, my wife isn't so fat she can't get on this thing, she tolerates my self-indulgence and sometimes rides with me, which is why she tolerates it" bike.
