I’ve ridden an old Z9 on track. Believe me they’re a ton better than you’d expect. It clearly wasn’t my race bike... but it’s TONS capable. However, my heart is set on an 890R (provided a test ride confirms I really do like it). The chassis, auto blipped and raw 2-pot, as well as being more ‘super moto’ is what appeals to me. Plus I reckon a touch of customisation with make it even better ;)

I bought one earlier this year without a test ride and it's really a great bike. You'll love it if you're looking for a light nimble machine that can carve corners like thanksgiving turkey! The torque is addictive and the electronics package is second to none. It has some of the best brakes on any bike out there as well, it really is a well rounded bike that I think more people would love if they gave it a chance.

890R has been picked over the Street Triple RS in three video revues I have seen and over the Ducati Hyper 950 in another. Pretty impressive to knock the middleweight sport standard Triumph off it's 10-year throne. I'm sure the Kawasaki is a nice bike. I Bought the 890R. Bike World had an excellent review just last week. He can ride the piss out if anything and does. It's pretty much the excellent reviewer's favorite motorcycle right now sounds like.

Toad really seems to click with the Kawasakis. Was always more fond of the Suzukis and occasional Yamaha models myself. However it does seem like these days, of the Japanese big 4, it's Kawasaki making the biggest effort. It's the excessiveness of KTM's twins that really does it for me these days though.

@exothermal.sprocket
@exothermal.sprocket 3 жыл бұрын
@@thinkdunson Not sure honestly. Suzuki makes some of the best transmissions, more snicky and tactile than the Z900 although the Kawasaki transmission certainly has nothing wrong with it. Suzuki is using the K5 GSX-R1000 engine which is kind of legendary for its performance, long-stroke design, durability, and well known in the aftermarket for serious mods (drag racing, road racing, etc). Suzuki ran an updated 5 gallon tank if range is any concern, although probably doing about 3 to 4 mpg less than the Kawasaki. Both brands run a pretty good electronic display, the Kawasaki being slightly more legible from what I've seen. Suzuki will offer slightly more open ergonomics for a larger rider if that's a requirement for you. Suzuki is running an up/down QS now, while Kawasaki has neither. Suzuki runs basic Brembos and radial mount front calipers on larger size rotors, but then again, 25 more horsepower needs to slow down too. Kawasaki runs axial mounted 4-pot calipers, less rigid and less feedback (why they don't simply run the same brakes on the Z that the ZRS uses is beyond me). I'd say Suzuki does offer more features for the increased price, but its up to the buyer's budget and satisfaction which one they want. The new MT-09SP is quite a bit different world in terms of engine and electronics, and sort of splits the difference in cost between the Z and GSX-S. MT cruise control (SP model) is a beautiful thing. MT fuel range has never been that great. Currently there's no price announced on the 2022 Suzuki. The Z900 went up $100 in '21 (US market). If we take the difference between the new Z900 and the last GSX-S1000, the difference is $2,000. Could be more than this when Suzuki announces MSRP for 2022. All three of these Jap bikes are reliable as a stone axe, no concerns here. Hope I've helped.

The KTM has only 1 year warranty and you can't buy extension, the Z900 you can get up to 5 years unlimited miles, just that got the KTM out of my head and I'm definitely getting the z900 this season for the reliability and parts OEM/after market availability

TBH I wonder why most indians are complaining about the reliability of their KTM's... seems like the India factory has a problem cuz here in the Philippines our KTM's here are fine, not a lot of complain

Z 900 is a heavy,low quality brakes and no quickshifter! KTM 890 Duke R is more agile, torquey, very light(184 with all liquids), Brembo brakes, WP suspensions, IMU. Finally ı don’t agree with you, there is a Street Triple RS and new MT 09 SP and all of them are great bikes and more modern than Z 900.

I'd like to humbly disagree with the result of your test. Because motorcycling is much more than only driving from A to B. From my perspective, motorcycling is supposed to be fun at first! And that's the reason why the Kawasaki can't win this test, even if she is a comfortable, priceworthy sub 1000 bike. In all criteria of driving fun, the KTM can beat the Kawa. The Duke is much lighter than the Z900 and therefore the handling is much easier but even more precise and stable. The motor of the KTM feels much more lively and has a better low range power. And the sound is much more fun than the boring inline-four purr. Even the vibrations of the cross-plane 2 cylinder feel better and more alive than the high frequent vibrations of the inline-four. The brakes of the KTM are finer in dosage and more powerful. And finally the seat position on the KTM is much more active and offers a better feeling for the front wheel than with the Kawa. All of this makes the KTM much more fun to ride on curvy roads and in the mountains. Therefore, the higher price for the KTM is absolutely worth every cent. If you want to have a reliable, well priced and refined bike, which is comfortable to ride but a little boring, choose the Kawa. If you want to have a smile on your face every time you ride your bike, you'd better take the KTM.

I have ridden aZ900 and it ain't boring. It steers and handles great consodering it's budget suspension. Sure the 890 is lighter and sharper but that doesn't tell the whole story. The money saved with the Z900 will get you a k tech suspension upgrade personilised to your weight and other goodies. Also ktm's are generally less reliable and are more pricey on servicing and parts. These are important factors that should be considered.

@@fyorbane I've had 6 KTM and never have experienced a serious technical problem. I'd say yes, you are right, you can buy a lot of stuff for the difference in price. But the Kawa would still have the same frame and the pretty much more passive seat position. This is something you can't compensate. If it comes to sporty driving, the KTM will always be more precise and better to handle.
@fyorbane
@fyorbane 3 жыл бұрын
@@kssi488 Agreed. The ktm is more singleminded while the Z900 is more of a balanced sporty all round road bike which I prefer. Again servicing and parts on the Kawi will be much cheaper. The motor also has a lot more potential for tuning.

@@fyorbane Hi Boz, agreed concerning the tuning capacities of the inline-four. Not agreed concerning allround bike. The KTM is not worse than the Z900 in the daily routine. She is relatively comfortable concerning seat position and damping system. Handling and ergonomics are above standard. Agreed concerning service prices and spare parts.

@@kssi488 I must say that your comment about this bike is spot on. It feels like the every negative comment about Ktm's is either about the price or reliability. I rented the 890 for a day since I recently got my driver's and it was super easy and extremely fun to ride. Power was manageable and so confidence inspiring. Brakes were superb and handeling was really easy (felt extremely light). Only small one thing was the stuttering of the engine in low rpms. It literally begs you to open the throttle more. I am almost 90% it's gonna be the 890r but my cousin convinced me to try riding the z900.

Great video as always. So many great bikes out there. Most People can not really notice the difference between the 890 vs 790 Duke. I would go with the 790 as there are big discounts. European bikes are exciting to me vs the generic Japanese bikes.

Z900 is one of the smoothest bikes I have ever owned...21 and counting. I have had character bikes, sport bikes, supermotos and I would not give up the smoothness the z900 has in shifting, throttle response and next to zero vibrations in the handle bars. Character is overrated in a bike. The more comfortable you are the more you will enjoy the ride. Owned a FZ09, in fact 2 of them...blast to ride, but throttle response and comparing it to the z900 lead me to off loading it for the z900. KTMs are sick bikes, but reliability and price alone I’m going kawi
