They say losing your license is easy on just about any motorcycle, but with the Kawasaki Z H2 I’d say it would be almost impossible to keep it at all!
What do you think about the ZH2?

It’s only about $17,000.00 USD, keep saving your cheddar when you can, you bring $5000.00 to a dealership they’ll probably finance the other $12,000.00, your payments shouldn’t be that bad. Pay it off next tax time, or at least a big chunk of it.

Great review. Thank you. After around 5 months of ownership it continues to put a smile on my face. I use it almost every day as my daily commuter and it's quite easy to ride around town and filter through traffic. The engine is sillky smooth and responsive. When you need to go fast it just does it, no hesitation. You feel the weight if you need to push the bike around the garage but once you're moving the kilos just drop off. The bike feels very stable in corners which, along with the electronic aids, give you a lot of confidence. Fuel consumption is high, but this is is expected for this type of bike. The only disappointment is the rear shock which is a bit harsh. While not cheap, you do get plenty for your $$.

@@MrDrakenhoff It's on the cards. I do like the colour scheme more. It really comes down to how much trade in the dealer will give me. I did sell my 1290R for the ZH2. The Kawasaki can't compete in the hard twisties (obviously), but all round just a fantastic bike to ride. No regrets whatsoever!
@stevesmith6236
@stevesmith6236 3 жыл бұрын
I was initially so impressed with the bike the first time I saw and sat on one at a major bike show in New York City, I eventually bought one. First off, it is not an inexpensive bike to buy. It's the second most expensive bike I've ever owned (the ZH2 is my 51st bike). Second, the engine has a single counter balancer so it is smooth, but not "silky smooth". Third, the seating position is one of the main reasons I bought the bike, You get 1000cc sportbike power but without the cramped "fetus" position. Fourth On the street from a 40-50 mph roll on test of speed in 2nd gear, this bike accelerates with AUTHORITY!! Fifth, with the Kawasaki accessory windshield , which is quite small, it does help a bit when in a full tuck on a HIGH speed run, but does little-nothing when at normal(sane) speeds. Sixth the build quality is quite good and should be for a premium motorcycle with a high price. Seventh The tool kit is a TOTAL DISCRASE! Cheap crap tools and very few of them. Eighth Low down torque is not nearly enough, especially when drag racing. I raced the bike three different days at an official 1/4 mile drag strip, and the results were quite disappointing. I've been drag racing motorcycles since 1977 and have gotten quite good at it. This bike as it is stock is no drag bike. It's too short, has a too high center of gravity, and stock, is geared too low. I didn't buy it as a road race bike so the weight is of no consequence to me. I like it's "in your face" mean looks too.
@MrDrakenhoff
@MrDrakenhoff 3 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! I love hearing from people that actually owns this bike. It seems like most of you really quite enjoy it, like I did. I don't quite agree about your statement about pricing though. Sure, it's not the most expensive bike out there - but 275k nok (~32'000 usd) it's still "a lot of money for a motorcycle. I don't know where you're currently situated, but here in Norway we're only able to ride about 6 months every year due to winter. Now I'm not trying to pick a fight with you here, but not everyone is willing to put down that kind of cash for a "summer-vehicle". Anyways, thanks a lot for the insightful comment Steve! Have a great 2021 :)
@stevesmith6236
@stevesmith6236 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrDrakenhoff I wrote that the bike is NOT an inexpensive bike to purchase, meaning it is quite expensive. List price here in the states was $17000. The only other bike I paid more for was a new 2007 Honda GoldWing which I was able to buy for $21,000 (USD). Here in Pennsylvania, USA I am situated about 65 miles from the Atlantic ocean , about mid way on the east coast of the country, just minutes from Philadelphia ( think movie "Rocky"). Generally I ride comfortably from May until mid-late October. So basically same as you , 6 months out of the year. I love Kawasaki motorcycles and Hondas. I've only owned 2 Yamahas and 2 Suzukis. As much as I like my ZH2, I never really fell in love with it. It has a lot of potential but it is NOT worth what Kawasaki is asking for them. Kind of wish I had just kept my 2016 Bandit 1250S and over $13000 dollars. I feel it is worth perhaps no more than $12,500.

I think 17k for a piece of engineering that beautifully made is a reasonable price! How much would the car equivalent cost? And it’d come without the bike’s sensations!
@stevesmith6236
@stevesmith6236 3 жыл бұрын
@@hugq14 When you add dealer fees which typically add approx $400, and taxes, you are now over $18,000. A "reasonable price" ??!! I disagree. When you compare the stock performance of the ZH2 to other Japanese sport or naked motorcycles in that price range, over $18K (USD) is way too much. As far as speed weather it is how quick it is or top speed, any number of 1000cc sport bikes will easily beat the ZH2. I know first hand. Bringing up car equivalent performance is a non issue. We're talking about a motorcycle here, not a street compliant 4 wheeled vehicle. With accessories I have invested a total of over $19,500 USD and even though there are a lot of positive aspects about the ZH2, performance per money spent isn't one of them. As I write this the ECU still hasn't been figured out so saying the bike is capable of producing 240+ horsepower at the rear wheel is still speculation. Being naked, the top speed is much less than a sport bike of 1000cc or larger. It's mid 10 second 1/4 mile time is pretty poor for the money invested as well. I'd say at best ,the bike should be priced $5000 less than it is to make it a good value, even then a leftover ZX10R or even a leftover ZX-14R is a much better value especially when they can be had for $10-$13K.

Having finally seen one at the dealership, its hulking and muscular build reminded me of an NFL fullback like Bo Jackson. Just an update, I have now done 400 miles on the standard ZH2 and I would say the skyhook is not a deal breaker so don't make yourself struggle financially for it but it is better. One thing I will say though is the standard seat on the demo SE was alot more comfortable than on my H2 and better still the SE seat allowed me better reach to the ground. Tested in show room with a standard H2 seat on the SE as well. I'm 5'8 and need to be on tip toes when sat on the bike so if anyone has an SE with a spare standard seat for sale I'll buy it :-) Another thing to consider on this bike is how nuts it is. I'm on second part of running in the engine so can do 6k revs now and it's already well beyond my riding ability LOL! It rides so good slow I don't care though 😄

Great review....I've owned one for 3 months now (all black version) and surprisingly its an awesome all round bike. Obviously its a ballistic bike but I took it on a mini tour down to Cornwall UK covering just over 1000 miles in the week, I put it in Rain mode for the 300 mile trip to our destination and was getting 48.5 MPG which is better than my Z1000SX. A fantastic all round bike sums it up.

Thank you. Quite interesting with the MPG note. I rode in the «standard» (street?) and found myself having to fill it quite often.But I probably rode a bit more spirited than the «average touring-riding». Just out of curiosity, have you considered trading it for the upcoming 2021 Z H2 SE?

I might order the new ZH2 SE next week from Monsterbike, but not sure yet, currently driving an s1000r. I had a ZX10 RR before, do you know how it compares powervise to the Z H2 SE? The ECU is still not possible to tune yet and I've red that the Z H2 SE is quite restricted, I mean, the potential is nuts, just like the regular H2.

Great review. This bike is a very rare oddity because it's actually very good looking in person, but certain angles of the bike will suddenly make you cringe a little. It's like that one girlfriend you don't talk about that had an amazing body, but God have mercy if you look at her face. With that being said - it's a really cool bike with a ton of nice features for the money spent. I've owned my "Zed" since new in 2020. A long and winding road including older slugs..ie XJ900,GS750,GPZ1100 a Bandit plus a plethora of bikes leading up to the chasm jumper-a Fireblade,followed by two Gen 1 Hayabusas. The combination of power,handling and braking experienced on late model bikes is a universe away from the head shaking,tail wagging antics of the bikes of old. Like any old fart,my delivery of narrative tends to head off on variable tangents-please overlook or at least be tolerant of my meandering style. Yes,there are more beautiful bikes and expressly designed machines for "knee sliding" or boulevard cruising or pretty much whatever"floats your boat" In my opinion ,the sheer joy of riding a bike whilst remaining mostly, in control is personified by the ZH2. Having owned Gen 1 1290 Superduke, Gen 2 1290 Superduke GT and currently a ZH2. In the naked section, I would rather stick with the KTM or even Ducati Streetfighter. Engine on the ZH2 is great and all the supercharger chirps are fun, but that's really all this bike has. To me the ZH2 does not look like Kawasaki's flagship naked bike, on the road it doesn't stick out as a crazy supernaked bike like KTM and Ducati does. Suspension parts could have been a lot better and electronics do not compete with European rivals. Still ZH2 is a fun bike and something that is definitely worth owning a season or two.
