I love my Z650 precisely because it's so well behaved. I commute on it daily with no surprises. It's not emotionally demanding to get on it at 5 am to go to work or 10 pm coming back from a late shift. It's always nice to me, and more importantly, to my wife, who is a new rider. But it still has enough power to wake me up when I crack the throttle. It cruises at 80 mph all day, every day. Even with a passenger. And for me personally, it is the most comfortable bike I've ridden... by a significant margin. I've ridden nearly every naked bike in the class, and the narrow seat the Z has feels really well settled. It's nimble and light as well, it really feels at home navigating traffic in town and on the freeway. The Z650's greatest strength is that is predictable 24/7. It's the golden retriever of motorcycles, and that's just fine. That said, yes, the throttle totally sucks.

Heres the thing. often times If you talk to someone as experienced as Yammie about a beginner bike theyre going to have a lot of seemingly negative things to say. That isn't because the bike is actually inherently BAD or anything.... its just that a more versed rider notices the quirks on a bike far more easily, they've ridden enough bikes to know what they do and do not want. I own a 2020 Ninja 650 KRT (the full fairings version, not naked) and it's my first bike minus dirt bikes as a kid. I Watched tons of reviews on it before purchasing and I wasn't paying too much attention when people said "First gear is twitchy below 5k rpm" or "it just needs this... or that" and thats because I knew every SINGLE bike i wanted would have some caveat. Talk to 20 peope and each of them will tell you something different that they did or did not like about the same bike. Because it all comes down to preference. Thats why I cant stand the "10 reasons i HATE my (insert bike here)". It shapes a specific bike in a bad light and its not fair to impressionable buyers. Take EVERYTHING a reviewer says with a grain of salt. Fact is, most bikes are awesome. The Ninja 650 is no different . Find what works for you, what you do and dont like and Fuck what the reviews say because at the end of the day its YOU purchasing it with YOUR likes and dislikes. So dont let any review tell you what is and is not a good bike. Thats your choice to make. Many riders tell a beginner you need to look for this... or that in a first motorcycle. Other than controllable power and reliability every single other characteristic about a beginner motorcycle is up to preference . Don't be too picky on a first bike. Dont be stupid either. Do research. I feel like in typing this i've probably said the same thing a couple different ways and thats because I cant stress these points enough. Ride your ride. and remember : you look a lot cooler with skin. so wear your gear. ATGAT

As I am only five foot four with a very short twenty six inch inseam, with its light weight and low seat height it inspired confidence in all areas of riding. He's right that it doesn't have as much character as the competition but if you're the sort that is worried about tip toeing your bike at stops the z650 will give you that sure footed easy reach to the ground. Id say its the most ideal 650 for new riders under 5'6". The seat height might only be a hair shorter but its much narrower meaning your limited leg length can be spent going down to the ground instead of out to the sides. Rando thought but I think they should change the 650 platform to a triple cylinder. Would keep it’s good low end power but increase top end potential. Than and I think it would be fun for each bike in the class to gain an cylinder as you go up in size 😂. Z400= twin, Z650= triple, Z900= I4. Kinda like the MT 07, 09, and 10

I rented the Kawasaki Z650. It was a great bike all around. Highway speeds, interstate, back roads, no problem. My issue was height.. im 5'10. My knees got cramped while riding. However my cousin is about a a inch or two shorter, it fot him amazing. Literally everything else was amazing. This bike does 100mph like nothing. I dont get why alot of people hate this bike?

ER in Er-6 stands for essential riding I believe, every bike derived from it feels this way, Er-6n, Er-6f, Ninja 650, Versys and now Z650. I think they are great first/second bikes for this very reason, just a standard reliable motorcycle, nothing to fall in love with, but you'll learn to ride and know what you want from your next one.

Long term ownership makes a difference imo. Been riding a 2009 ER-6N rider for 7 years. Both road & track. Full suspension upgrade, steel braided brake lines & Dunlop Q3s make it a fun little weapon! Fwiw, compression ratio is slightly higher on my generation 650 too. The Z650's lower compression ratio (and lower redline) is definitely noticeable when riding spirited. The Z650 does however have better stock suspension (than previous gens) I've ridden all the other middleweight naked twins too. First pick goes to the SV650. Engine 'feels' the strongest of them all and the chassis really feels well planted. Can't really describe it. Excellent engine sound and exhaust note too! I just didn't want to deal v-twin valve maintenance. Much easier to do the valves on the Kawi 650s (imo). FZ/MT-07 has a really tight cockpit and pretty crude suspension but a devil of an engine! Great bike for a smaller person (I'm 5'11") I can only knock the Kawi 650 twins for ONE thing only; the 180° engine firing order. 270° sounds awesome. That's subjective though. Plus I'm often too busy having a blast on my ER-6N to care! 😁✌️

Good review. I ride 27y now and have had the same amount of bikes. I've tested the Z500 and it was a very nice bike to ride. My opinion is that downsizing in CC's doesn't mean that you have to reduce the fun. The only thing I would choose a Z650 above the Z500 is MAYBE it sits better but I doubt it. Didn't ride the Z400 but the 500 was nice

A part of me will always wonder what the fz-07 life would have been like, however I think the z650 still has a place. It was the perfect first bike for me being on the more responsible side. Has a nice low seat height for us more vertically challenged folk. Lastly and of course subjective, I preferred the look of the z650 when compared to the sv650 and the fz-07.

Susuki café is forward leaning and heavy on arms and neck especially after 1 hour of riding. Forward leaning bike are uncomfortable as hell . just get a 600 four cylinder in-line if that’s your preference. V sports were created to compete in their exclusive competitions because v twins could never compete with i line 4 . I like V twins or L V’s but they aren’t as usable as a parallel twin for average person. Unless you get a standard and like the sound and looks like Ducati etc . I think kawi are trying the standard riding position on a modern platform. Pretty genius. Not to crazy on the power , good on gas , lots of torque and a good comfortable safe bike to ride . I like it
@AntaresSQ013 жыл бұрын
First, this isn't a fair comparison, the new 650s are behind the crop true, but this bike has been out since 2006. The Fz07 was a decade from being born, the SV650 was a heavy and crappy handling whale, the Monster was blowing it's engines up left right and center. The ER6 platform at the time was the most powerful and most reliable. Sure it may not have the character but that's just cos you have a crappy exhaust on it, put a good one on there it will be just as lively as an SV650 or MT07. Problem with the platform is that as times moved on, they didn't, in fact they moved in the opposite direction. But an early 2010s ER6 still has vastly superior handling to the MT07. There were a lot of things that were missed out in this review that make this one of the best selling platforms for a reason, this bike has near 50 miles of range on an MT07, better brakes and suspension, better wind protection and top speed 11:30 is just straight up not true, The only singular reason the FZ07 feels spicier is because it has a shorter 1st and 2nd gear and a shorter wheelbase. Thats it. Off the line the Kawi 650s demolishes the FZ07, and sure it's not as much of a wheelie machine but is overall so much faster around the bends. I do have to say that most of the issues outlined are a cause of devolution. Honestly. The Z650, might be a bad and boring 650, but the previous models are different. Even stock the old models make 5bhp more, rev to 11,000 instead of 10,000 rpm, and I heavily disagree at 10:25, they are much easier to open up ECU flash for 300 bucks and you've fixed every throttle issue whilst gaining another 5bhp, It's just as much of a worthwhile upgrade as the new tyres, the old Tokico's are significantly better than the Nissins that are on the newer models, put a braided line on there and you got yourself some very competent brakes. The suspension is better, the bike is more stable, and used it's likely gonna be significantly cheaper. I genuinely don't think the upgrades are anything noteworthy on this platform, you exchange an already decent LCD dash for a TFT that's yea more colorful but shows the exact same things, hell the switchgear is unchanged since 2006. Honestly get yourself and older 650 and it will definitely beat out ALL the competition for fun/dollar. Now my fanboy rant is over. But honestly you're painting these bikes in such a bad light when in reality a 2009-2016 model er6 still spanks most of the modern offerings or is on an equal level for significantly cheaper.

Damn dude. Did a guy on a FZ07 steal your girl? Lol
@AntaresSQ013 жыл бұрын
@@martymcfly6976 Nah, I had all 3 of the mentioned bikes, that's why I'm saying. People paint the kawi 650 line as boring and soulless. And sure, I love me an FZ07 with a full akra, but the Kawis just outperform both the other bikes in so many areas. It's a bit like the BMW S1000RR, people say it's boring and soulless but everyone still agrees it's the "best" liter bike. The Kawi 650s are in the same boat but since the whole 650 market is built on a budget this is often forgotten. As I said there is a reason they are the best selling and a reason they keep winning in the supertwin category. I track my old 2011 ER6F regularly, I also tracked the 2015 MT07 and i thought I was going to die the brakes and suspension are THAT bad. Sure around town noone cares and wooooo it can wheeelieeee. Doesn't make the bike actually good. I just hate it when people are steered away from actually good and worthwhile bikes based on the fact that it had a meh sound with a shitty exhaust and that it has 7 less bhp on PAPER

Suspension is a wooden pogo stick from the 90s? Throttle low end is from the 90s? Seat is ok? Lights are low end flash lights But? Tires are too skinny for riding on modern roads and better for India? But the full faring looks good.

The Z650 is all of $13 brand new. The smiles per dollar is at an all time high with that machine. Second only to the psychotic MT-07. You seem like you came from some proper machines and you sound like a very seasoned rider. If this is true then yes, the Z650 is NOT for you mate lol. Steer clear and pick up a Z900 or something. But for the rest of us noobs, it’s a solid bike. I’ve been riding for 6 years and I’ve had plenty of middle weight bikes including a MT-07, ZX6R, SV650, and even a bat shit crazy CB1000 (Honda steerings are freaking weird). But my favorite of them all was the MT-07 and Z650. Both bikes that people call “cheap” and poke fun at their suspensions.
