One of the great pleasures of IFR flying is climbing through an overcast into bright sunshine above. Another is seeing the runway emerge ahead through the mist as you descend on an approach.
This video of an IFR proficiency flight from Boeing Field (KBFI) to Arlington (KAWO), about 40 miles north of Seattle, shows off both scenes. You will also occasionally see a “glory,” a rainbow-like full-circle that surrounds the shadow of the airplane as I fly just above a solid cloud layer with the sun at my back. I flew three approaches on this class IFR day. On this first RNAV (GPS) RWY 34 approach at Arlington, I used all the automation, including the coupled missed approach or TOGA feature of the GFC 600 autopilot.
As you’ll see, the ceiling was variable from about 300 ft to 700 ft, with good visibility in mist below the clouds.

Bruce, Where did you get the “approach codes for the seattle area" sheet? It can be very helpful to reduce radio time explaining ATC the intentions.

Seattle Approach published those codes a few years ago. You can download the PDF from my Aviation Documents folder here: 1drv.ms/b/s!AneE1ZO1pQoRg6Fy2qFffKGKIGeVDQ?e=FrwiQb Portland Approach has a similar scheme; in fact, they published codes before Seattle: 1drv.ms/b/s!AneE1ZO1pQoRg6FzVFR5CgXJ-YWW1A?e=fd2cHL My experience suggests the codes get to the controllers about 75% of the time. Doesn't hurt to file them, but you may have to state your requests.

I love that PAC chart. Quick question: why do you go to 22 MP at MDA?

That's approximately the power setting required to maintain level flight with flaps APR and landing gear DWN if you want to continue/circle at the MDA.
