Kay Adams is NOT READY to Write off Bengals Playoff Chances! Talks Ravens/Bengals OT Shootout

Let’s move to what was the best game of this wild Sunday…as the Ravens beat the Bengals in an overtime shootout in Cincy. Over the previous 2 games, the Ravens had run all over the Cowboys & Bills and it was clear Coach Lou wasn’t letting that happen this week. It was going to take a Lamar Jackson masterpiece through the air to pull this one off - and that’s exactly what he gave us.
The Bengals stacked the box to eliminate the run…they challenged Lamar…and he rose to the occasion with ridiculous plays like this. I mean, this is going to go down as one of his best plays ever - and that’s saying a lot. The Bengals plan was working early - the Ravens run game averaged under 3 yards per carry in the 1st half…Lamar was struggling to get going…but it all came together after halftime. Look at this…
235 of Lamar’s 348 yards, and 3 of his 4 touchdowns came in the 2nd half after Todd Monken started opening things up more. Lamar put up the 3rd most passing yards he’s ever had in a single game. And this was a very strong reminder that if you want to fully commit to stopping the run on this team, this passing game can still be lethal.
And, Derrick Henry can still break 51 yard runs in OT to set up the game-winning field goal as well. This is the ultimate “pick your poison” offense and - I’ll say it again - I think that’s what makes them the most dangerous team in the NFL with the way they’re playing right now. And by the way…after that Steelers loss last night, the Ravens have already jumped from 0-2 all the way to 1st place in the North. Lamar vs. Jayden Daniels next week is really going to be something.
And as for the Bengals…it’s hard for me to get behind the overtime decision to run it 3 times and settle for a 53-yard field goal. You have Joe Burrow and - outside of one poor decision - he was as close to perfect as you could get yesterday with 392 yards and 5 touchdowns. If it’s a chip shot field goal, sure, run it. But you have to try to get another 1st down in that situation and put the ball in the hands of your superstar QB with the game - and maybe the entire season - on the line.
But that being said…with the way the AFC has played out so far…I STILL don’t think this team is out of it at 1-4.
Outside of KC and Houston…the entire conference is just a jumble of teams right now as everyone has been beating each other up. Outside of KC and Houston…no one has created separation, and the Bengals are within just 2 games of the other 13 teams. Plus, the schedule is going to get much easier than it’s been so far. Joe Burrow is also playing out of his mind right now - leading the entire NFL in TD passes and passer rating. For all of those reasons, I am not ready to put a wrap on this season. 1-4 teams have only made it 6% of the time…but the recipe is there for these Bengals to make it happen.

From a Ravens fan perspective, the problem obviously isn't Burrow, it's the defense. Also, they still have a chance because Steelers are just a defense, and Browns are a mess.

@@justinholley2897 appreciate that... but its our defense. They played fine last game, should have won. But it is not sustainable to let teams put up 25+ points every game and try to win. In the last 3 games the Bengals have put up over 100 pts collectively and are 1-2 after those 3 games. That should never happen in the NFL.

Kay I just don't know anymore! I'm a lifelong bengals fan and normally an optimist, but I'm still speechless! This season had such high hopes. There's no way this team should be 1-4! It feels like we're reverting back to an era that I thought this franchise had turned the page on. Is there a path to 4-4? Yes but I'm not confident in this team's defense or ability to close games at all right now! Hopefully we're just going through a rough patch and I'm proven wrong.

Fans want to think they draft holes after losing key defensive players. As a fan, we should have known better. Burrow ($$$) should have known better!

they looked very good offensively.... the problem is that they need to play perfectt for the rest of the year.... if they had 2-3 wins by now, they would still be ok.... being down 1-4 when you still have to play ravens and steelers again this year puts them in the it probably is over right now category. Again, we are assuming they win almost every game from here on out.... which would be to assume that all of a sudden they become a completely differnet team that lead them to this point

The Steelers lost and clearly showed signs that they aren't real contenders. The division and wild card spots are still wide open. You never know how other teams will shake out. We just have to get back to 4-4 at all costs and I don't know if this defense will allow them to do that

This is probably the one that stings the most, definitely was the most fun game I’ve been to this season but the end just drained all my energy, football can be unpredictable but I’m not getting my hopes up, I’ll just be glad if we grab a wild card spot in January but I’ve completely shut off the AFCCG and Super Bowl part of my mind off until something changes

All my 30 years of life in Cincinnati , it’s always the same. If Carson Palmer didn’t get hurt, if the defense stopped Roethlisberger, if if if. They have a long term cultural problem of not being good enough when it matters.

As a bengals fan, even if we somehow make it to the playoffs, it doesn’t matter because this defense can’t fight its way out of a wet paper bag let alone get a stop on an opposing offense. They got lucky that Lamar fumbled the snap otherwise they would have marched right down the field and got the first touchdown in overtime. This team is wasting an mvp like season from burrow because they don’t know how to draft and were too cheap to sign any of their important defensive pieces.

It wasn't the overtime decision to go for a field goal... If Burrow doesn't throw an interception with 3 minutes left, the Bengals win the game. Burrow was good but not perfect. As great as it was, this is STILL on him. You can't throw the INT at that point in the game.

Again, if the defense had made 1 stop, this is a different outcome. Burrow has been playing at an mvp level all season and to put the loss on him solo is a terrible ass take
