I just arrived home from a memorial service held today for Kay. It closed with this song -- "Tea for Two" -- recorded by Kay. How nice to be able to remember him by watching and listening to this!

Absolute Bravo! So wonderful ! Reminds me of the old days when we as kids would go roller skating to this kind of fun organ music! Kay McAbee was one of the greats and thank God for this technology that allows us to enjoy his talent even today! RIP Kay

Back in the mid-60s, I attended many a Kay McAbee concert at the Rialto Theatre, Joliet, IL. His performances always combined great showmanship with gentle....and often humorous....commentary. My organ teacher at the time, Faye Wheeler, often sang his praises. We miss you, Mr. McAbee.

It was wonderful to meet Kay when he was up here in Wisconsin several years back. He was another one of the few "greats" who will never be replaced. I play Tea For Two but to be sure- nothing like Kay played it. There are musicians like me who can do OK and get by. A musician like Kay was is someone who is endowed with that special sparkle that sets them far-far above the so-so players. I sure wish I had it but then again I so enjoy listening to those who can play like Kay did.

This video reminds me of my dad... I still have my fathers 1960 Hammond B-3 organ, although he's gone in 2004. No one famous, but in my mind,he was!!! I'm a HVAC mechanic, not an organist... I miss him, and the joy of that sound he produced!

I wish my Granddad was still alive, he was a not thaught but very good piano and church organ player... I'm sure watching something like this would thrill him as I do (or make him jealous maybe, cause he also had that piece of character I believe). Anyway, Kay McAbee does remind me of my granddad sitting at his piano and playing. He couldn't read sheet music, he'd just walk through a place, hear a piece of music if he liked it and played it on his piano without even practising, he must have already figured it out in his mind. Now I can play music but not like that..... And this video of Kay McAbee is one of my KZbin's very favourites. Rest in Peace, hope you'll meet my granddad somewhere up there. :)

Wonderful! My Auntie played this tune as well on her B3 for years. Later she got an X-66 Hammond. She was always the life of the party if an organ was near. She's gone too but I still have her tapes. This brings back spectacular memories. I played too but never reached this level. The footwork seemed to trip me up occasionally.

Hearing the grand sound of this organ helps us to remember him. Some theatre organ videos shows how the organist would raise and lower the console. As the way KETC movie narrator Jim Kurtcher would put it, Kay McAbee really hasn't gone away. Not for those who loved him.
