Was barely 3yrs old at the time, so sad we had to witness such devastating incidences thanks to us listening to politicians who are hell bent on dividing our country as they stand aside watching & toasting waiting to milk the public coffers dry. A total of 104 souls were lost, atleast 133 more injured and some 100,000 people were displaced not to mention the tourism trade that came to a standstill overnight. I witnessed the horrific first day of the attack, though I was very young, the scenes are still fresh in my mind. We spent the night hiding in the banana trees. Silent and alert no sleeping, till morning. At SHIKAADABU village in likoni. The whole thing changed our family life forever. So much happened!!

I still clearly remember the first time the attack happened in Diani, I was in class one and had just gotten back home from school when the Gun shots and screams started,around 4pm in the evening, we could see the Gun men behind the house with red vitambaas on their head.This chaos went on for over 4 hours , afterwards my family had to go out in the middle of the night to look for somewhere safer to spend the rest of the night,there was blood and burnt houses almost everywhere,early next morning we left for upcountry. We still went back to southcoast after two months when things had cooled down,then one evening another attack happened this time more brutal,for a the longest time Ukunda/Diani was a ghost town until recently when it started to recover.

It's always the poor that bear the full brunt of these senseless fights. That was the beginning of the fall of tourism that was the mainstay of many households. Years later, the same madness was revisited in the post election violence. May God have mercy

I was born and raised in Ramisi,Kwale county....we were living few metres from the Ramisi Sugar factory.....I was 5yrs at the time of this incidence,what I remember was my dad came one afternoon with a very big lorry and we hurriedly packed and left....all these years he has never told me what exactly made us relocate,until last year Dec when he narrated the ordeal....I literally cried it was so bad,we escaped by a whisker coz the following week our neighborhood was raided....it's soo sad what politicians do to the society

mkurugenzi, this story needs a part 2 .......... hawa mandumakuwili tried to access the navy barracks in mtongwe then, walijua hawajui. I was like 8 years at the time na niliwitnessed this action live, i didnt lose anyone close to me but so many lives were lost. Na if anyone out there has doubts regarding mukuru's stories, i can tell you for free, this is exactly what happened.

You can imagine if hawa locals were funded with full armory like the alshabaab damage wangefanya. they used to hide in a certain market hapo mtongwe "soko mjinga" then wanaatack randomly so hungejua who is a civilian and who is hostile
