In this video I load up my kayak and head to the Trinity River in Fort Worth, Texas! Summer bass fishing the local ponds has been rough, so I thought this would be a good way to explore and find some active fish! The lure of the day was a Jenko squarebilled crankbait. The Trinity is one of my favorite places to go to. Because of the dirty water I usually throw a trap or crankbait. Light wire frame Colorado blade spinnerbait with a keitech paddle tail has also been doing well. You can catch them with bottom contact baits like a wacky rigged senko, but there's so many hang ups you can't really use them unless you know the targets.

It felt like a crank bait would be a really good option out there. All I got was snags on the Texas rig. I think I’ll be back soon. I also thought that a spinner bait would be pretty out there.

@@thesouthwes There's some good crappie in there too, so if you bring your BFS you might be able to get into some slabs.

I can say it is a tricky spot, I’ve been trying to get hits on a red crank bait and I fish from the bank, but no luck so I’m trying a strike king sexy dawg top water to see if that works then wacky weedless but I fish from the Fort Worth end

Yeah I want to find a smaller red crank bait to throw. Some guys at the launch were getting bites on whopper ploppers so that might be a good option. I didn’t try a wacky rig, but it always works so I’ll probably tie one on for the next trip

I also have a blue gill H2OX I want to try it’s small hard plastic and swims like one, I think that could get some bites, try a craw jig I seen a few craws dead on the banks so they might be feeding on them.

Fish is tough rn… I’ve been having luck fishing deep pockets with vertical dropping presentation like a fluke, drop shot or wacky. Smaller bass still hit moving baits but I’ve noticed that bigger bass rn are a lil lethargic in this heat

I went back to the River today and did better! Luckily it was overcast, but they were biting crankbaits this morning!

I like to beach launch at Backwoods Paddle Sports, it’s where the Clearfork and Westfork merge. To launch is free, but the parking in the roundabout is not during the week, therefore I like to park under Henderson St. bridge. Fishing along the overhanging grass has given me the best results.

@@Vane_sub yeah I would try a wacky rigged senko if it’s tough fishing. Try fishing at sunrise and sunset. That’s probably more important that which bait you use

Loved the video. Wife suggests using a auto pump for the paddleboard. It plugs into your cigarette lighter. Maybe try a paddletail above the grass. Ive heard casting upstream and bringing your bait downstream works better. Natural presentation.

Thanks man! I definitely need to use the auto pump. We have one for a mattress that I think will fit with the paddle board. It was definitely fun out there, and I think that I could come across a nice one at some point!

Man, great vid. I am trying to learn the Trinity also and recently got a nice inflatable kayak. If you ever want more company, let me know. Heres a few tips I've learned from a guy who slays on the Trinity. In hot summef, fish north south stretches. The wind simulates current. Also, some wind turns on the topwater bite. Fish overhanging tree stretches. Also any shaded areas. I have a couple spots, plus a couple I want to try. Also know a really good stretch but.the only launch spot is a little sketch. PS, BFS KICKS IT on the Trinity!

Thanks man! I watch some Clinton Braunig videos where he throws BFS on the Trinity and catches big bass. Not sure if that is who you were talking about, but he makes good videos. It seems like most launches on the Trinity are either sketchy because they are steep banks, or sketchy because of the people that hang around! 😂 I think I’ll try BFS on my next trip though! I’ll let you know if I want to get out there

I’ve got the catch 100! I think they only sell one option because I was looking for the fancier one, but couldn’t find it anywhere. I’ve been wanting to try one of the marinas on grapevine!
