nice vid bro. question on the redondo launch. I've seen a few videos where you fish the PV kelp beds and wondered why you don't launch out of the nearby beaches instead of the long paddle from redondo?
@adventureforth438910 ай бұрын
1 - danger. In general, beach launches are much more dangerous than launching inside a safe harbor, and if you flip your ride, you will break rods, lose gear, etc. 2 - that beach launch by Malaga Cove involves dragging your yak like...100 yds through the sand. Even with beach wheels, lugging a 150 lbs worth of yak and gear is a pain in the arse. If you are fit and don't mind the paddle, you're much better off launching at King Harbor and paddling to the PV area.

You have truly inspired me with your detailed information about fishing the local Ocean Marina's. I've been fishing local lakes in my Hobie Kayak but have not had any success catching any fish. So after reviewing several of your KZbin Videos I finally got the nerve to venture out into the Ocean on my Kayak. Last Sunday I went out of the Redondo Beach Landing and had a great time fishing the Kelp Beds! Once again thank you for your Detailed Information on the local harbor fishing. I plan on going out of (MDR) next week weather permitting. Take Care and continue the Great Work with your Channel!!

@@coolstuffbydwightstreet Nice! Once the water warms up a little bit, it'll be hard to keep the barracuda (and their sharp teeth) off the rigs. And, there are some *big* fish that hang out around there, too. We've hooked Black Sea Bass, Thresher Sharks, White Sea Bass, etc. You should come out with us.

You should be able to launch right at the end of the beach, in the area where you said the kelp beds begin. There is a parking lot right there with a concrete ramp down to the sand. The area is usually called Rat beach.
@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors73055 жыл бұрын
Yes, for those was might be reading this - if you don't mind dragging your kayak through some sand and are ok with a beach launch, it would put you right at the edge of the kelp forest.

That's a *tough* question. I don't believe in buying "labels", but about 90% of the people that I know who take up kayak fishing seriously end up on Hobies, including myself. The ability to navigate while having your hands free to fish is invaluable, imo.

You could. There is a parking lot overlooking the beach. You could wheel your stuff down the ramp and drag it another 50 yds on the sand to the water.

What would you advise is safe in terms of wave period and height for a kayak or small boat when looking at the forecast? Thanks
@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors73054 жыл бұрын
Dear Mr. Trump. "Safe" is a fairly subjective term - some people are more risk-tolerant than others. But for the average newbie, I'd recommend swells no bigger than say...3 ft, with intervals that are 10 seconds + (bigger number is better). Wind should peak out no greater than say...10 mph.

You really dont need a fish finder. You literally just find drops in depths near kelp. If you are targeting cabazon instead of rock cod or lingcod just head to the shallowest most kelp ridden area you can find and you'll nail them. Ive been doing it for 16+ years. Another thing is you can find the angle of drift and paddle to the mid point of the kelp and tie yourself to the kelp to stay stationary and drop in the same spot. If you dont catch anything in 20 or so jigs, release and repostion 10ft away. Rock fish are super lazy and despite having good eyesight are mostly ambush predators who are reluctant to leave their post. Lastly I've had waaaaay more luck with squid to catch bigger fish. I typically use a twin tail root beer scampi but I cut the squid lengthwise and make it look like a third tail. Only time I've been skunked was when I took my girlfriend out for her first time and she caught two legal halibut within 15mins total fish time was 2hrs 30mins. I was too busy setting her and my buddy up to fish for more than 1hr and ya I got bites just nothing big. This is also from northern Cali between big sur and San Francisco. I won't give spots unless asked.

@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors73055 жыл бұрын
