That's scary. In theory, lithium is supposed to be a little more dangerous, but they've come a long ways in terms of safety. And they are *so* much lighter.

Love the video. Thanks. One question I was looking to get some input on. Why do you have the wiring in the middle of your set-up. Ie. why don’t you use the wires that come out of the lithium battery (oliyin EC5) and splice them directly into the black waterproof wires (LED JUMP) coming out or into your box? Ie. I don’t understand why the middle wires (the Hopkins 2 pole) are needed? Sorry if the answer is obvious or I missed it in the video. Last I am assuming the female LED JUMP wire that connects to the male LED Jump wire (that comes out of your box) is then spliced directly to the wiring harness that comes with the Garmin Striker unit? Thanks for any of your help. And thanks again for the video. Much appreciated.
@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors73055 жыл бұрын
Hi, I need the quick connect/disconnect because I have multiple sources of power. I sometimes spend 10+ hours on the water, so I need something that I can swap out quickly. And yes, the LED is soldered directly to Garmin. Use heat-shrink and/or lots of electrical tape. If any part of the wiring becomes corroded (common), you'll face the most annoying gremlins.

I got inspired by your project and bought an Audew 1500 A, 20000 mAh car jump starter to power my fish finder but also to run my 12 v Bravo BTP 12 air pump when pumping my inflatable Zodiac. I don't have my fish finder at the moment so I have only tried the battery with the air pump. I can get it to run if I connect the battery by using the "intelligent jumper clamps" and press a boost button on the side of the black box but if I run a direct connection from the battery EC-5 socket to the air pump I get no current. Do you know what the problem is? You setup seems to be working fine without going through the "black box".
@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors73054 жыл бұрын
Gosh, not familiar with that model, so it's hard to say. Do you have a multimeter?
@KristianGrSl4 жыл бұрын
@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 I just did a test running the air pump from the cigarette lighter in my car and then from the car jumper through the intelligent jumper clamps and with boost button pressed. It sounds like the air pump is running at 1.5x speed from the car jumper and that worries me a bit. I don't know if the cigarette lighter from the car delivers too little current or the car jumper too much (if that is even possible?). I don't have a multimeter but I can get a friend to do some measurments. There is no "boost" button on the black box connected to the clamps on your DBPower battery? I'm not sure what happens when I press the boost button on mine but I hear a "click" and then I can turn on the air pump.

@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 I tested the socket with and without the black box and it delivers 14.9 V in both situations. That why the air pump was running so hard. how'd that meat hook gaff end up working? Been pondering the same thing myself...
@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors73052 жыл бұрын
hi, for the couple of times i used it, i thought it worked pretty well. for a kayak application, i think the meathook just makes more sense. the longer gaffs are just too unwieldly, imo. i don't think it takes any more effort to bring a fish next to the yak, as opposed to trying to gaff it from 3' away. having said that, i don't keep many fish, and any fish requiring a gaff is one that i'd most likely turn loose. on rare occasions, i'll keep eater-sized fish, but that's about it.

I have a Lowrance Hook 4. I purchased DBPower DJS80 12800mAH/47.36Wh/1000A. Before I did all the wiring, I tried to test just clamping the aligator clips direct to my FF wires. The FF powers up to main screen then shuts off. I do not know if the "intelligent" current protection is stopping it from working. I tried with and without powering the unit on. Do you need to turn the DBPower battery on? I ordered some EC5 connector cables, I am hoping by going direct will solve my issue. Appreciate any advice.

I think that your starter battery also has a round barrel connector that can output 12v at 10 amp. This is designed for a cigarette lighter adapter. I think that output might be a better choice for your fish finder and may give even longer run times. Have you tried connecting the fish finder to that output jack. Most of those starter batteries use the port you did because they can handle 600+ CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) needed to start a car. Your fish finder may use 2/3 amps. The 12v output on your starter is a much better choice to run the fish finder.
