I have the suzuki 2.5 as well. Mine wasn't as sophisticated as your set up by I did use it on my hobie outback by ratchet strapping a 2x4 behind the seat and mounting the motor on one side and a counter weight on the other. My problem with mounting it on the back was starting it since I like to move from one spot to the next alot. It worked great btw.

Lowegy, Outstanding set up! Hardest part looks like the mount itself. Did you have it made? Would you be willing to sell one?? Probably a pretty good market for that exact set up from what I see on here

Nice video, I did the same mount with my motor. Can you do a video showing how to hook up the throttle and kill switch?
@Lowegy7 жыл бұрын
Andrew Chambers the kill switch is pretty simple. I just remove and cut the kill switch and extend it with wires. For the throttle, I used a stainless steel derailing bike cable and hooked it up to the existing throttle controls.

Lowegy you fking did it!! 👍 I started like 5 month ago and still half way! But I have no days off and a daughter! ..good job man feels amazing right?

Lowegy man what is stainless, the wire or the housing cable?
@Lowegy7 жыл бұрын
Fishing Rod the cable is stainless steel. The cable housing i use plastic landscaping dripping tube.
@dcgo44r7 жыл бұрын
Lowegy bro I went the hard way! Suzuki housing is stainless too, but no way anywhere I find this stuff...so I use the same as for bicycles...see how much would last in saltwater. The cable is from aircraft wire with 60th something wires, awful expensive! I went with fishing cable for sharks...not as smooth, but close.

I am also very intersted in how you placed aluminum plates inside the hull of the kayak?

I love the set up with the engine I got one to so much fun
@cmmbsnyder554 жыл бұрын
Is the engine a kit or do you fab it yourself? Was wondering if there's any welding involved. I have a Malibu Stealth 12' Kayak and want to try an do this. I need to know specific details on how this was done.

That’s nice! Would liked to have seen how well and fast it pushes the kayak. Does the weight of the motor make it feel tippy? I worry a bit about recovery if you were to flip in the surf
@jobloggs72158 жыл бұрын
looks good. I just bought an Xfactor and will be doing a similar mod. The Suzuki looks the goods, sounds great too compared to a screaming 2 stroke. I have a slightly used 3.5hp Tohatsu so will be using it so 5kg heavier but still not much impact of the big Malibu. Is the WOT on the running video? Do you trawl with it?

Nice set up, like what you did with the kill switch and the extra aluminum plate for the mount. Bike shifter for the throttle seems like the way to go. Thinking of doing something similar with my PA14. How easy is it to start when out at sea ? Any thoughts on a lever for the choke and extension for the pull start line ?
@Lowegy9 жыл бұрын
+John McKroid Jr. Choke is usually not needed after the first start. If you need choke control, try using paracord loop to enable/disable the choke. The newer motors are easier to start. I extended the pull start line by tying a rope to it and adding a wood dowel at the end. It's a little awkward, but it starts up by yanking it over my left shoulder from the seat without any problems.

how did you place aluminum plates inside the hull of the kayak?
@napesteban81857 жыл бұрын
HiI saw you’re other video where you added an outrigger. I have the same one and the float does not sit straight when on the water. Dis you add something to make it stable pointing straight.
@Lowegy7 жыл бұрын
Nap Esteban yes, I used 3/4" pvc
@Butterskayak9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting, but I'm still wandering how you switch gears from Neutral to Forward. Thinking about doing the same on my PA, however the gear shifting is keeping me from mounting it on the stern. There is also an ON/OFF button on this motor, do you keep it on the "ON" position all day?
@Lowegy9 жыл бұрын
+Butters For the forward/Neutral shifting, I just simply used a long thin aluminum rod (golf ball retriever) and attached it to the shifter. You can see this this rod laying on the side in "Extreme Powered Kayak Fishing" video. For the ON/OFF button (this is the kill switch), I removed it from tiler and extended the wires and attached it next to the new throttle control.

+Lowegy ah genius, I think I'm sold on the rear mount.. Thanks for posting!

I am about to fit an outboard to a kayak and of course appreciate videos such as yours to help me make a decision as to how to fit one.However it is a year ago when you posted this, how did it go?One of the points I noticed is that your outboard is mounted quite high and although it meets the criteria for mounting an outboard on a boat, ie the anti cavitation plate should be level with the bottom of the boat, in a kayak it seems to me it would add too much instability due to the height of the oatboard.Feedback on the performance would be appreciated.Thanks
@Lowegy7 жыл бұрын
Peter Ellis the outboard is just under 30lbs so it feels stable even up that high. It runs at about 7-8mph at 3/4 throttle.
@combat-aging7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that.

Nice setup. How do you engage in gear?
@Lowegy4 жыл бұрын
I use a long flexible skinny pole to engage the gear shifter

Cool video, I have the same Suzuki engine on my kayak, where did you get your throttle cable to fit the length to the back of kayak please?
@Lowegy5 жыл бұрын
I got the bike Derailer cable from a local bike shop. Make sure it's stainless steel to prevent rusting.

After time of the torque pushing down on the track screws dose it come loose or ruin the plastic how long have u had it on their and what effects long term have u had if any
@Lowegy7 жыл бұрын
Zack Salisbury it's solid. There's a backing plate inside the kayak that screws bolt on. It spreads the entire torque load across the entire 12 inch track plate
