Kayak Salmon Fishing Area 8-2

Tried my hand at some kayak fishing in Area 8-2 for Coho and Pinks. This area opened on 8/1/2023.
Managed to catch and release a large Hatchery Chinook. ( I wanted to keep it so bad... ).
Also hooked another salmon at least as large as the Chinook. My brief glimpse appeared to be a Coho but I couldn't tell with any certainty. It snapped my hook off at the kayak after the second hook got stuck in the net... :(.
Lastly, I landed a smaller wild Coho (retainable) which, after the prior two fish, was a bit of a letdown haha.
Had a great time, though. Can't wait to get back out there.

Nice catch and videos. I just moved to the area permanently last year. Looking for some friends to go fishing with. I’m on Whidbey Island and an experienced fisherman. Let me know if you and your buddy would like some company. I’m a disabled vet so I have lots of free time. I use a Hobie PA12 or a Hobie Compass.

I’d like to go with you too. I’m in Oak Harbor. I’m relatively new to the area as well. I went out in coupeville The other day and caught a limit of pinks. On my feel free Dorado. I didn’t use the downrigger although I have one they were running relatively close to the surface are use a 3 1/2 ounce sinker with a 360 troll and pink and Hoochie skirts. Did the trick I was done with my limit in 45 min . (Zone 9)

Saw a few jumpers. I am using a 6lb ball from Triangle bait and tackle.
