I've been trying to challenge people to catch cats in a creek about 6 miles from my house I've never caught any out of there but all the older people say when they was kids they used to catch them all the time and I know they there bc I've caught them about 5 miles upstream from the bridge I fish under But I have caught gar bass and bream out of it I've seen 5-6 foot gar in there and try to catch them but can't get a bite by any other than the little 2 foot ones But I'm in jayess Mississippi

I wonder if spring time fishing in Michigan could change your opinion on Channel Catfish. My buddy caught 19 & I caught a 27" 11.12 LB fish before I got my 2nd rod in the water. We caught a lot of fat fish. Of course, a Flathead would be better, but its a good start to the season.

Great to see you back and catching some hawgs. I’m in quite a dry spell right now. But as you mentioned at the beginning of the video. I finally found the original river bed that is in my local reservoir. Found 1 spot from the bank that I can reach (20-30ft out) with a depth of 22-24ft relative to the 15-20ft surrounding area (based on navionics). I am a bank fisherman and only been catfishing for 6 months now. My bigger cats come from chicken breast surprisingly and I do well with frozen shrimp. I hope it’s not too much to ask for your advice on fishing this original river bed from the bank of the lake. Using rod holders along with circle hooks (3/0-6/0) should I keep my drag tight letting it completely bend over, or should I keep it loose to let the fish run and then pick up and tighten the drag? A lot of channel cats in my area (range from 6oz to 10lb in my experience), rare blue cats (I’ve caught a 25lb and a 50lb), don’t know about flatheads tho. I seem to get nibbles and bites all the time but nothing solid enough to hook up or run with the bait. I’ve learned so much from you Justin. Thank you so much for your content, you’re truly amazing. If you or anyone else within this lovely community can give me some tips with the scenario I described OR tips on how to fish a small river with consistent water level changes (4-10ft and major cfs changes (100 cfs - 6,500 cfs)) due to the dam, that would also be appreciated. Thank you guys so much for all the knowledge you have already taught me!

You will get better hookups if you keep your drag tight and let the fish hook themselves with the circle hooks rather than trying to reel down after they start running with it.
