You are spot on when describing missed bites. I believe that is true of most fish that engulf their prey by sucking in a large volume of water quickly. Flatheads, LMB, even crappie comes to mind. They can inhale and exhale a bait with the slightest line twitch. Factor in wind and current, and you can bet MANY bites are not detected by the fisherman.

Another thing a lot of people don’t consider is how many times fish will come up just to bump a bait and not actually bite it yet. I think those are the fish you’re getting most of the time on the stinger fly foul hooks. When the stinger is in their mouth, they most likely thought it was a smaller fish chasing the bait, like you’ve suggested before. Always good to see your videos man!

Justin, speaking of snags. I went out yesterday and recently starter rigging some hooks on an underwater camera I just throw in the water as a "second pole". Well I was just pulling in back in, felt heaviness, thought I caught a branch, and turns out I caught someone's fishing rod and reel on the bottom!!! Nice pole, more flexibilty than my main one, so I am going to actually use it as it's better than the second pole I was using. I had a good laugh!!!! Free pole!!!

That has happened to me 3 times over the last 40+ years fishing. Two of those were top shelf gear, with one having a high dollar crankbait still tied on. I still use the worm rod and the trolling rod I pulled up. The zebcos (caught 2 at once, NO JOKE) still need cleaning up. The old ZEBCO 202 and 303 would function just fine with a bit of cleaning and oil even after being submerged for a couple of years.

@@TB-zw7dtBoth the rod and reel are Zebcos. The rod looks to have been made in 2010 from research, it's a light tackle reel. The rod must have been put on separate because it's a very old Zebco 33. I thought to myself it looks old enough to be from somewhere in the 80's but it looks like it may be from 1954. Either way, it's an old reel.

I take it that you are back home in Tennessee, as none of the fish caught don't have that Alabama short tail. Love how you finally put a Sumo fly on your dragging rig. Great video. Keep them rods bent and best of luck for your upcoming tournament. Show them Bama fishers how it's done.

Another great video. The stinger flies keep bringing extra fish that you may not have caught otherwise. I wonder if you ran something like a Zara Spook as your float if you would catch a few on it as well. I have had a few good takedowns that the fish let go. After I reeled it in, I noticed the float was all mangled.

Looks to me like you have been working the bugs out of that basic rig design for a while now. Persistence is paying off. I think you now have the best all-'round rig out there. And the change-up is simple, swap weights! At least thats how I see it. I have all the parts, im going to tie a few and try it on a smaller size fish population. Ill let you know how it does. Thanks for teaching me something new.😊😊

I used to do some double hooks when dragging but I was putting different cut baits on both hooks. I would put the float between the 2 hooks because I was worried about the snags as well. It worked but often the fish would throw off both baits during the fight and I was going thru more bait. Also it seemed that often they would usually hit the back bait. I am sure it is because that was the first bait it found. May have to retry it with the artificial as it wouldn’t cause me to use more bait.

Great work Justin. Maybe the flies are helping attract the fish to the baits as well? I'd love to see an experiment where you had one rod dragging with, and one without a fly, and both using the same cut of bait. (Leaf-Blower-Man is the devil's spawn as far as I'm concerned. Him and his cousins all over the world. What's wrong with a rake and a broom?
