I use the ugly sticks, too. Great rod for the price. Are you using the 7 or 8 footers? I found the 8 footers to be too soft in the tip, the 4 and 5 ounce sinkers bury the rod tip when drifting.

I use the 7 foot model. I actually wish they made it in a shorter version for the kayak.

Heck yeah! have you thought about putting driftmaster or bee ready rod holders on the yak?
@KayakCatfish6 жыл бұрын
I am not a fan of the drift master bases for kayak fishing purposes. Their bases are very small which would cause a lot of stress to be put in one small area of the plastic when a big fish loads up the rod. I have never heard of the bee ready rod holders so I don’t know anything about them.
@bullardsbesttackleco.58756 жыл бұрын
that's what i was thinking. I've thought about modifying them to put in a gear track base but wasn't sure how well it would work. bee ready also have small bases, but they work well, at least in boats, for drift fishing.

Hey Justin what kayak do you recommend for a beginner? I was still looking at the Ascend 10t but I’m not 100% sure. Obviously I want a hobie like yours but just don’t have the money as of right now. Or could you possibly make a video on how to choose a budget kayak? Even a suggestion would be appreciated.
@KayakCatfish6 жыл бұрын
That is an impossible question for me to answer unfortunately. Everybody’s body type and personal preferences are completely different so the only way to know if a kayak will be a good a fit for you is to get some seat time in it and try it out. If you have a local kayak dealer, try to go to a demo day where you can try out a bunch a different kayaks. That will help you be able to choose one that is the best fit.
@EastNationOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
I will give that a try! Thanks so much!!

Hey Justin what time of day is best for hot summer catfishing like July, August ? Night fishing unfortunately is not possible for me
@KayakCatfish6 жыл бұрын
I always say the best time to fish is when you have time to go. I don’t know that there is really a best time. I have caught them all hours of the day. There does seem to be windows of time when they become more active but I have never been able to pattern or predict when that will be on a given day.

Hi, how's it going? Got a question. What's the best way to hook a white bass head?
@KayakCatfish6 жыл бұрын
There isn’t really a right or wrong way. I usually hook them up through the bottom lip and out through the nose. It leaves a lot of the hook point exposed and holds on the hook pretty well.

Hey man, measure away! I'm super interested in the tournament. Hope to enter one myself, looking to learn what I can from ya. Had a question about your Scottys.. I assume they are the spin/bait casting type (like I just bought), they seem to work well for the bait casting type reels, wondered if you have used them for spin type reels, and your opinion on them.
@KayakCatfish6 жыл бұрын
I haven’t used a bigger spinning setup for catfish but I use smaller spinning setups when trolling for bait all the time. The Scotty rod holders work well for those so I imagine they would work fine for a bigger spinning setup too.
