We spoke with the USA distributor. USCG screwed them. It makes zero sense. It was tested with over 1000lbs of bricks and floated fine. In Brazil they run two people and 9.9-15hp on these. If they sold it as a kayak they could rate it for 1000+lbs and people could put whatever motor on. If they sell as a boat the USCG for some stupid reason signed off at 400lbs. If they add a little more internal floatation they could possibly get USCG to sign off at 600lbs, but that adds cost. It makes zero sense that a milk jug plastic POS bass Raider or other budget plastic boat would have better rating. This Lite Skiff is really awesome. Kayaks and boats are rated differently by USCG. Kayaks are rated by what it takes to literally sink. The boats are rated by a formula and apparently how the USCG feels that day. Lite Skiff is 1000% better boat than NuCanoe for capabilities. I’ve owned both. Anyway, hopefully see a increased rating in future. Simplest solution is to sell it as a kayak with MCO certificate and let people register it. Even if we didn’t I would still buy one. It is the best truck boat I have owned. This situation of bypassing USCG reminds me of the technicalities with AR15 and the ATF. If you want a 7.5” barrel AR15 you need to get a pistol stamped AR15 lower with 7.5” barrel upper. If you use a standard AR15 lower it will look and function the same, but you will be at risk of a felony for owning a short barrel rifle without license. The two firearms would be identical, but it is an ATF technicality. Same goes for Lite skiff if it is sold as a boat of a kayak. One results in over double the capacity rating. Government agencies often make zero sense.

That milk jug scoop isn’t going to work well if your Jon boat has built in deck and hatches like this Lite Skiff. Jon boat is a big bathtub that fills with rain water if you don’t store with drain plug pulled out. When you are on the water in a Jon boat and it rains hard or wave comes over bow the hull fills up and has nowhere to go. This Lite Skiff is just an easy low maintenance free boat. It might not be for everyone, but I like less work. I had Jon boats/Gheenoes/canoes/kayaks that would fill with rain water constantly. It got to be annoying and slowed me down with getting them out on the water. I really appreciate the self bailing hull. It is much safer if rougher water conditions kick up in the Florida gulf.

It does get the job done, but won't last you a lifetime like this would. This is built well. I see tons of pond prowlers on used market in really rough shape. This costs less than most pedal kayaks and pedal kayaks are selling like crazy. So really don't think the price is bad. I think it is actually competitive. Just different viewpoints. Everyone values things differently.

How well will it hold up to attacking sharks? Thats whats kept me off the ocean sitting on plastic. Ive seen to many videos and stories of sharks attacking yaks and even boats. Unless that plastic is atleast 2 inches thick i think im gonna have to pass. I swear though the day someone makes something like this thats super tough will be the day i get rid of my current yak.

I’ve caught several sharks on it. No fear. It is way thicker than kayaks. Plus if sharks are attacking just motor away. Not like a kayak where you are stuck. I got it with the intention of shark fishing. It is one of my favorite types of fishing.

That is a pretty nice boat, kinda pricey, but it's definitely more portable than most that size and looks awful sturdy too! The Manufacturer could almost make it fold in half even the way its comparmentalized. If the made it like two solid but separate pieces, just have to make special latching. They could still use that drainage system to they way that I imagine it!

I would argue it is actually very competitive. Nothing else on the market really that does what it does. I had tons of people at iCAST stopping me in parking lot asking where they could buy it. Hobie kayaks, Old Town kayaks, Native Kayaks and many others are incredibly popular and cost more! The Lite Skiff is selling well. My inbox is flooded with messages and they keep selling. Some think why not buy a jon boat, but this does what jon boats can’t. For one self bailing is huge feature I find to be essential. Thunderstorms and rogue waves don’t require me to have bilge…it just drains out. This boat is always dry. Way safer than Jon boats. If it were a Jon boat those same storms and rogue waves would create a bathtub…you NEED a bilge on Jon boats. Also Jon boats come bare and you have to often add hatches and deck which adds cost. Most Jon boats aren’t as easy to haul/transport. This boat is also incredibly stable based on hull shape. More stable than Jon boats of similar size. Hull also has conforming inner hull foam floatation for added safety….Jon boats do not. $3499 is a steal IN MY opinion.

Hatches stay dry. Water runs off deck into side scuppers. Hatches have raised lips that channel water to scuppers. You can make hatches into Livewell. I’m taking it scalloping tomorrow.

Ok after writing and erasing 3 different replies lets see if i can make this less crass. 1. For 3.5k you are able to buy a jackson coosa or an entry level hobie. Both of which come with a drive system and nice seating. 2. A traditional aluminium john boat design typically comes with 1 to 2 swivel seat post holes. They also come with deeper flat seats. This design makes my back hurt without even getting in it. 3. This design lacks functionality and anything ergonomic. The parts you grab to pull it are flat. The rod holders are straight up and down. No yak rails that i can see. You have a dozen kayaks that you ran by. The blue one looked like a hobie even and somehow you ended up with what looks to be the most uncomfortable big yak one could design. Storage is nice and all but like with kayaks you can make a bit of it inner hull and remove a bit of storage on top to make way for a little comfort. Curious to see future designs of this.

Just blow molded plastic less than 100 bucks in plastic. 6 bucks in aluminum. 900 hundred tops retail. After a couple years in the sun plastic deteriorates. The cost of this mold die bout 100,000 At 3500 it's gonna be hard to get to profit. Especially in this economy. Good luck

My friends have these boats. I just got one on loan until my Lite Skiff arrives. I got a 6hp Yamaha and a 3hp epropulsion motor for it. Registration stickers are in route to be sent to me will likely have on water footage next week. I will the different motors. I will add trolling motor to bow. I will play around with and post more content. 😊 My messages have been non-stop since posting. So many requests for info and the company sold out once, but luckily just got another shipment. I think they put in another large production order in advance so they have more stock before my next vids. I knew it would be popular, but didn’t know it would be this much. Guess when you have popular fishing kayaks like Hobie/Native/OldTown that cost $5000 this Lite Skiff becomes even more attractive.

I like this a lot but it’s kind of like a hobie kayak to me. I can’t justify spending that kind of money when I could just get a used boat with a motor and everything for the same price. If you could make a plastic boat like this for like 1000 then you’d be cooking with hot grease

For $1000 it would be almost impossible. Rotomolding is more expensive than TST and the hull is way thicker. TST is how the cheap Sun Dolphin and Pelican department store boats are made. The shipping alone is expensive on thick rotomolded boat this size. That being said it is way more durable than Hobie kayak. The hull is like lifetime thick. I drag it a lot and beat the hell out of mine. Aliex YT channel and I just went out on it last week shark fishing. Bagged a blacktip shark and did a catch and cook on island. Not saying I don’t understand your hesitation based on price. This caters to those who have the money to spend on Hobie fishing kayaks. It gives them something else to consider.

I have a 19ft center console and it sits on my boat lift never used. I wanted a truck boat that was durable, self bailing, and had tons of hull storage. More like 11-12 payments. Worth it to me. Best truck boat I’ve owned. Hatches for storage, self bailing (no drain plug/bilge/or draining hull constantly), has wheels for launching at remote sites, stores easily, and can rig it with everything a bigger fishing boat has. I personally try not to rig it with too much though. The reason I love it is for the portability. I do utilize the hatches a lot though. Today I threw a grill onboard and cleaning station….cleaned and cooked catch on the boat in the Florida gulf. Going out again tomorrow. Boat is just easy to own and costs less than most name brand pedal fishing kayaks.

Well it isn’t my company so no hard feelings. However, hard to argue that Hobie and other brands of kayaks can be $3500-7500 but this can’t be $3500. That logic doesn’t make any sense. Hobie and many big brand kayak companies are selling tons of their fishing kayaks for more money than this….so that kinda proves it isn’t that expensive. Also this boat has much thicker hull and would outlast any of the fishing kayaks.

What are you talking about? Definitely are features. Having a boat ready to go with large hatches, strong rotomolded hull, self bailing hull, aluminum transom, deployable wheels, track mounts throughout, etc. There aren’t many other boats that have these features at this price. Jon boats don’t have the hatches and aren’t self bailing. The department store bass boats are made cheap and stapled at the seam. This is less money than most popular pedal kayaks on the market.
