tried once launching from king harbor to the Rocky point in PV. came back with a bad wind condition. I never do it again. haha. those distance u do and the long hours u spend out there.... big respect bro!!!

You can do it! Just pick a day with light winds coming out of the South/SouthWest along with small swells. Leave super early in the morning, and you'll most likely have zero wind paddling to PV. Then in the afternoon, you should have a light breeze at your back when paddling back to King Harbor.

I only took my boat out when the swells were under 3 feet with over 10-15 second intervals and winds under 15 mph. Once we were fishing in our two seat Hobie kayak in Huntington harbor which is pretty much protected from the elements. The incoming tide was so ferocious we had to tie off to the buoy line at the preserve area. We couldn't paddle fast or hard enough to make any headway.

Yes - currents can make for interesting conditions sometimes. Glad you made it safe.

You mentioned that the water gets nasty at the mouth of king harbor. The water at the mouth of inlets, like harbors, is always sketchy. Someone explained to me its because its a choke point and all the water has to rush in or out during a changing tide.

Makes a lot of sense to me. Thank you.

Very informative. I think what’s causing the rough water around the harbor mouth is the mix current.
@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors73055 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a reasonable explanation to me.

Nice video, thanks for the tips. We have a similar harbor up here at Pillar Point near Half Moon Bay. The entrance to the harbor is the same and also we have to watch out for the boat traffic coming in and out of the area.

Yes - it seems like just about every entrance/exit of a harbor has these choppy conditions. And a lot of the time, it's where new kayakers hang out.

I have capsized in this area just outside the breakwater. Scary as hell
@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors73055 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I'd much rather tip the kayak out in open water.

@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 I bought a Hobie two weeks later hah!!!! Not that they can't capsize but a lot more stable, that's for sure. Especially for a newbie.
@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors73055 жыл бұрын
@@drrckhamilton Well, here's the thing...them rental kayaks were probably 8' long - maybe 9' at best. Not the right kind of kayaks for those conditions.

Good thing you blurred out the face of the fish you caught at the end, I think I know that fish, he’d be pretty embarrassed if his buddies saw this and found out he was fooled by a lure.
