First off, another well informed and edited video. I am going to add my two cents in (you did ask). When throwing in deep(er) water I have found (just my experience) is it's not the size of the net so much as the size of the mesh that helps catch more fish and sink faster. I always say ' a 4 foot net that opens flat is much better than a 8 foot net that doesn't' and what I mean is it's much easier for most anglers to throw a smaller net well than a larger one (and if you are throwing out of a kayak either seated or standing a smaller net is MUCH easier) so please keep that in mind when purchasing a net. Another thing to consider is mesh size...this is very important to me and here is why. Most of the time I throw a 3 ft 1/4 mesh net because I am in shallower water (less than 4 ft, normally less than 2ft) so sink speed is not that important but what is very important is the smaller (1/4) mesh. This smaller mesh does two things and the first is it does not allow the smaller baitfish to swim mid-way through the mesh and get caught behind the gills and make it difficult to get them out or kill them (which defeats the point of live bait...lol). Second , 1/4 mesh is GREAT for catching mid to full size shrimp that will easily escape a 3/4 mesh and when the trout are feeding on shrimp you want everyone you can catch! However, when I know I am going to be throwing in deeper water for larger baits I use a 3/4 or even 1" mesh which sinks very fast but still throw a smaller net which opens easier and I don't worry about the larger size mesh as I am throwing for larger baitfish. Again, just my thought and hope this helps. PS...loved the video of the net in the pool!

Thanks for the help and info. I’m new to most of this and wondered “how to even know where the bait fish are?”. How do you know they will be swimming by? Do you see them?

Yes, you can see the school since they stay close to the surface. They usually run when the tide is moving and easiest to see at low tide.

Tip don’t throw the net where you want to end up fishing. After you have thrown it bait or not the fish are gone.

Love the information. I've been practicing with my cast net some. You know the old saying. Practice makes perfect. I can definitely relate to trying to hurry and make a lousy cast. Gonna go get some more practice soon as my remodeling the house is done. Thanks for a great video.
