One thing folks need to check into is registration requirements in their state. I believe that some states will require you to register the kayak if you have any sort of motor on it, while registration is not required with human powered kayaks. If you're going to put an electric motor on your kayak, make sure you know your local regulations so you don't get surprised with a ticket....

Spot on! I'm adding a Bixpy to my Hobie PA 12 and just registered the kayak for here in New Hampshire.

Here in Utah, anything floating on water with a motor must be registered as a boat. One reason I don't put a motor on a kayak or inflatable pontoon

@jimtaylor6930 wrong canoes are the exception. Registration is only required if it over 25 hp. It is crazy.

@adventureswithfrodo2721 Not in Utah asked the DNR ,and they told me if there is any type of motor, it needs to be registered as a boat that includes electric trolling motors . I had a friend who put an electric motor on his inflatable pontoon and. He had to register it as a boat.

Great job Steve. Another disadvantage to rear mount ids getting grass and weeds off it. I had to beach it or get a friend to do it.

I added a motor about 4 years ago . I wish I had done it a long time ago. I have had the motor mounted on the side, the back and in the pod . In the pod works best for me . I go out many times a year without motor , but need rudder . Having the motor in the pod is much easier because the days I want to go wish no motor , I just change the pod .

When I looked into the dual pac motors last fall. They were more expensive than the Bixpy which I purchased on sale for $1,000 inclufing battery.

@@paulkavsak1941 I'd been looking at Bixpy for months (friends of mine bought one and recommended it to me). I finally wrote to Bixpy to ask if they planned on any sales. They wrote back something like: "Typically we respond that Bixpy products never go on sale. But starting next week, we are offering a discount on products." My timing was perfect!

I have been modifying my $400 Walmart 12’ Ozark Trail Angler Pro for a few years. I have ended up with a $1000 Motorguide remote control Xi3 with GPS and a $500 Lithium Dakota battery. It goes around 4mph. I’ve gone 6 hours,not all top speed (approximately 15 miles), and it showed over 50% battery left. I don’t need anything else. I made a video where I sent it off a ways by itself and then returned it right behind my truck backed in the river. It could actually go fishing without me! 😂 Thanks as always Steve! 👍👍👌

Love your channel. You never mentioned the price of the high end motor or the price of the battery. Those batteries are wicked expensive. Not just a little more….a LOT more. I made a set up like option one. To be honest, I think it’s totally adequate. Mine works very well. Unless this is all you do,kayak fishing almost every day, I would think twice about high end options. Also,when the motors are lowered into the water,what happens when you hit something. Do they fold up out of the way? I guess it depends on each person’s budget. Keep up the good work 👍👍😋😋

Great video! That Pac Motor does look awesome! I bought a Bixpy to help me propel my Hobie PA 12, mostly just to search for fish and to get from one end of the lake to the next. Looking forward to trying it out.

There is a 3rd, although I definitely would not recommend it as it just adds more stuff to bring on your kayak. My friend bought a drill powered propeller from Amazon, and he uses a cordless drill to power it. He brings extra batteries just in case but has to sacrifice what he brings in fishing gear. Personally, with all the ponds and lakes here, I prefer to paddle. It keeps me in shape.

I have forgotten where I picked up the three blade - the motor came with a 2 blade. The upc shows at 0:26 in this video - you can search for it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGWogYSbo8yCb80

How far to you go that makes you want a motor?
@KayakhacksFishing
@KayakhacksFishing Жыл бұрын
Personally, I rarely use a motor unless I am going to a spot called Buzzards Bay. It is about 2 miles from the launch. That is not far except you have to go against the tide to get there. The motor helps push through.

The pac motor looks like it might slip off the back of most kayaks. I built a set of outriggers that strapped on like that and they kept falling off till I mounted them to the front. Maybe the forward push of the motors will keep them in place. I designed a pvc U-Joint extension that slips onto the troll motor handle for steering at an awkward angle. I'll tag you when I post it if you like. Just posted it (20 min later) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKK7in6ebbNmj5I Keep em coming!
@KayakhacksFishing

Actually, it has two straps that attach to the carry handles in front. Those keep it from slipping. Thanks for the link!

Way too much stuff. I drop a Minnkota Enduro through the drive hole in my Hobie Outback and it works like a charm. No reaching back to adjust or control and I get 4 hours run time with a Duracell battery. 80 bucks for the motor and 65 for the battery.

See fishing Father video on KZbin. Sold a heavy North Port 36lb thrust motor. Going to get Minn Koto 30 pounds thrust Have 100 amp hour Battery. Red tide , dead fish everywhere. Big Fish 120, great cheap huge kayak Englewood Florida

Anything over 35lbs of thrust is a waste of energy. I built a ecm controller for under 50 dollars and integrated it in a T24 Watersnake in the actual head of the unit, i can remote control it easily from my hand device. It's total weight is 8 lbs not counting the battery. A 60AMP lithium 200 dollars and I can go all day easily, I couldn't transom mount anything on an eddyline 14 and I like the idea of the pacmotor and kudos to them for making it but I'm too cheep for those kinds of dollars.
