Hey Dan this is dan...I have brain injurys I want to get stable sit on top kayak I have service dog gsp I want to take With me fishing and float down river I'm weak so need to be light too.. I saw one with wheel... maybe a strap on type might be better I don't know.. I have looked at some floor plans I like The three waters big fish12...I think The lure... and the 12 perception.. I'm waiting open lay out...with Rutter I like the perception because maybe Mount a electric motor...I get nerofatige That strikes with no warning.. The pedal drivers are more money My Disability checks are a joke I'm hoping the right kayak I could use to get strength back and lose weight.. Mostly shallow rivers.. some deeper ones When I get things figured out...I might have to get out and drag around trees in water this is the weight issues mentioned Small gravel pits and lakes is my other Goals too....what do you think It's important to me...thanks for helping me Oh and are paddles a big deal I'm going to need one...do any the ones come with paddles?

My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. kzbin.infoUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!

I know this video is over a year old but boy does it come in handy for us, new to paddling folks. I appreciate your efforts to teach others and to put it in a away that the beginner can easily understand. It is also such a treat to not have to deal with a snob that thinks one has to start out with the best of everything to even dip a toe into the sport. Thanks for all your efforts Dan.

Went paddling for the first time today with a Intex Challenger K1. Was on the water for a bit over an hour. I've seen a lot of these intro videos but none ever mentioned or warned about what happened to me. The paddling went fine thanks to videos like this, but when I got to the shore and tried to get out of the kayak, my legs would not support me. I couldn't keep my balance for a few minutes. Luckily there was someone there to help me out and support me and stop me from falling. I realized that it was like sitting on a toilet for an hour and then trying to stand up. It only lasted a few minutes but it was a big surprise.

Hi Dan, My wife and I recently visited your shop and were impressed with your facility and personnel. We are just getting back in the sport after an extended, and forced, absence from all physical activities. I unfortunately had to sell my beloved Merlin XT thinking I was never going to be able to paddle again. Well, after a lot of prayer and a new, experimental medical procedure, I committed to actually paddle again. We picked up a pair of used Prodigies for an obscenely cheap price and are ready to jump back in with both feet. Your love and excitement for the sport is obvious and has re-ignited "the" spark in me again. Thanks for that and hope to meet you soon. Dave

Very helpful video! I'd appreciate more detail on actual hand positions as you paddle. Someone pointed me at this video because I have arthritis in my hands, especially my thumbs, and he wanted me to see how you use your hands while paddling (not gripping them all the time). If you could talk more about that I think it would be helpful. Lots of folks, not just me, do use the "paddle death grip" in part because they're using arms, not torso, for power. Thanks!

I am a paddler. I learned in the Boy Scouts many years ago. I have paddled canoes, and kayaks, rafts in everything from flat water to oceans, bays, and class III/IV rapids. I am not a fisherman, but I want to get into kayak fishing and looking for a new boat. I watched one of your review vids on the Crescent kayak. Now I think I just fell in love. I don't want to paddle a floating dock to fish. The Crescent moved like a paddlers kayak
@HeadwatersKayak5 жыл бұрын
Mike Jordan yes exactly! I’m same as you. I’ve paddles since age seven and the modem day fishing kayaks have no soul if you’re a paddler. Crescent bucks the trends and came out with something both paddlers and fisherman can appreciate.

does the angle of the paddles make a big difference? should they be equal or off angle or is that all preference?
@dustinj76504 жыл бұрын
this may have been asked previously, but I have the same question. Your blades are offset relative to each other. I assume this relates to the stroke you are teaching? So beginners should have blades that similarly are offset?

Great video Dan. Really clear, accurate, and simple communication style. Makes it easy to learn. One thing I remember when I was learning is that “move the boat, not the paddle” by imagining planting the paddle in concrete, keeping it stationary. Then unwinding and rotating the torso to propel the boat forward, past the stationary paddle. Really helps to use the legs and bigger muscles of the upper body instead of the smaller arm muscles.

I am not a kayak fisher, but a sea kayaker and I find it great that you learn people the skills of kayaking. Very important,what you're doing here! Compared to kayaking in a sit-in kayak you probably have to use longer paddles because of the width of the kayak (which makes it far more important to use your legs and torso) and I also see that your angle between the blades is 70/80 degrees. Nowadays, in sit-in kayaks most people use angles from zero to 30 degrees and inuit style paddles with long, narrow blades. However, euro style paddles are better for sit on top kayaks (must say I personally prefer them also for sit-in kayaks as well). Greetings from the Netherlands to all of you kayakers, stay safe🙂

Hey Dan thank you so much! I got an Angler kayak for my birthday last month from my fiance and I'm super excited. I took it out once so far...but I underestimated the distance and time I was going to have to get said distance, and by the time I made it to the place I was going to exit the river the public park that the pier was in had closed! So I got a crash course in self-taught speed paddling to try and get 4 miles away before it got Pitch Black out to where my fiance could get me out of the water LOL! A lot of these things came to me naturally luckily, but the sweeping lesson is going to be very helpful next time :-) I also had no idea if I was even holding the paddle right when I did it. Because I am a beginner and in a hurry, I got very sloppy, and because my shoulder muscles and neck muscles were not used to that motion I regretted it the next day. I am so happy I found your site now. Next time I go I will be much better prepared :-) Thanks again

I've kayaked one other time and aside from having fun, I didn't really know what I was doing. Now I'm getting ready to buy my first kayak and appreciate you showing me what I need to know to move and stay safe on the water. Thank you!🚣😎
