Memorial Day weekend...the official start to releases for one of our favorite rivers. We got to spend the weekend camping and surfing from put in take out for this lovely holiday weekend with some of the best people. Come along on our first day on our weekend saying "Hello to the Hiwassee."

The The Hiwassee River is designated as a Tennessee State Scenic River. The river is beautiful, clear and wide . The Hiwassee flows through the Cherokee National Forest and the pastoral community of Reliance. According to the legend, the name Hiwassee is taken from the Cherokee word ayuwasi and means “savannah or place at the foot of the hills.

Super video of the take-out, road up to the powerhouse and the put-in. The Hiawassee is very beautiful. Planning on taking a bunch of teenage girls on duckies this year. What’s the best side of the river to run in your opinion? Thanks for your video!

You are welcome. So sorry for the delay. Just now seeing this. The river has many different paths to take. One thing about the Hiwassee is tons of people are normally out there. Certain parts we run the right and certain parts we run the left. It’s kinda hard to explain. One tool I use is American Whitewaters website for rapid descriptions.
