Pro tip for the grilled cheese: grill the inside of the bun instead of the outside. That way you can butter it up and get it crispy like normal bread. What a cool relaxing kayak trip to be able to do.

You’re from KY (like my moms family❤️) so you may not relate but I am from the southwest. When I last went through New England I was so excited when I would see a steeple through the trees that I actually made a game out of it with my kiddos. I love that foliage and those steeples.

This episode came close to becoming a survival video! Paddling on a strange lake, racing the sunset to dock in a recreational kayak and against the wind! Brilliant thinking of using Maps. Also there are some useful compass apps available to download to your phone that you may like. Way to go Maddie, be safe and keep up the wonderful postings!!

Cannot believe you are still kayaking in shorts and a t shirt! Snowed in Barrie last night! For all the exploring you do I’d invest in a basic gps. Your phone is ok as long as you have a signal or preloaded maps. Even with the most basic one you can set a starting point and return their very easily. Hope Maine isn’t getting too cold yet.

Love it! Glad you are enraptured with the lifestyle! I’ve done a couple of 1-2 month road trips with a combo of hiking, biking, and kayaking in mind. The amazing beauty of the watery kayak perspective catches me off guard sometimes, it can be sooo amazing and peaceful (just don’t get lost or stuck in bad weather). I hope you’ve figured out a GPS map app for your phone by now since this video, but I use Gaia GPS for both land and water. It always easily and accurately shows me where I am, and plots a line showing my course as I go, no need for cell signal. $90/year but totally invaluable, it replaces so many paper maps and is a great planning tool (accurate distance & profile info).
@BeerinBeautifulPlaces2 жыл бұрын
I used all trails or far out for hiking navigation but don’t get a chance to kayak enough to have found a good one for waterways. I do have more responsible expectations of how far I can row in a certain amount of time, though!
@christydam67792 ай бұрын
I will second Gaia GPS, even if you haven't subscribed and downloaded a map offline, you can track your movement and it draws a path of where you've been, even if you have no cell signal. This has been HUGE for me for wondering if I've turned the wrong way, saves me so much anxiety. Even without a map in a pinch I move back toward where I started. Can't recommend enough for anyone watching this video, especially if you like to do things solo like I do. And of course pack a compass in case the phone battery dies.

G,day Maddie In Australia we have a thing called a Jaffle Iron, its like a cast iron clam shell , you make your sandwich , cheese , tined spaghetti, stew etc butter the outside of the sandwich pop it in the J.I. and cook it on an open fire or on a gas stove like yours. Would be lost without mine, if you have them in the USA a great investment, last a lifetime. Enjoyed your video, you have a very pretty country. Travel safe ,have some fun and drink some beer. All the best. Bluey.
@BeerinBeautifulPlaces3 жыл бұрын
Hey Bluey, I think I own what you’re talking about! I call it a pie iron, people up north call it a pudgy pie maker. I use it in my video I made in Massachusetts! Which is coming in a week or two!

I gave up the idea of van life 20 years ago when I met my future wife and step kids. I had a whole ‘nother adventure instead. My daughter is the last one at home, and is planning on being out in a few years. (I don’t want her to go, but life is life and kids leave home eventually) My wife wanted to build a Skoolie, but came around to wanting a van on her own. So in the next few years we should be on the road. Maybe someday our paths will cross. Good content friend. I really dig your channel.
