Good for her . About 2 years ago I sold my Dodge Sportsmobile to a young couple from Australia . They took a whole year and 25,000 miles to traverse all of North America . They wanted a V.W. but once they realized old V.W. vans were going for $25,000 they bought my $6,000 Dodge and had a great trip . I think their only issue was when they accidentally rear ended someone in a snow storm in Colorado . Only superficial damage to the van . Real steel bumpers . I think what I'm getting at is , do it with what you can . Happy Trails .

Emma's a cheery one, all the best to her. Battery is probably getting drained to low before recharging. (Which will kill it in the long term, car batteries are designed to give high output in a short burst, not low output over a long period, best to get a solar panel and leisure battery. )
