Whenever my begonias get leggy like that, I just cut & put in water. I've had good rooting success & usually the original plant shoots out new growth to make it bushier again.

15:20 I find that the problem with begonia and semi Hydro is that it’s just too heavy for the fine roots. The best way I found a combat that is 50-50 pon and perlite. ❤ 19:38 the strap on face 😂😂❤ 28:41 I’d 10000% chop the wonky vine! You can prop all parts of the plant, it even roots from the veins on the back of the leaves. I prefer perlite for begonia props because you get the best of both worlds- fast rooting in water and putting in perlite helps the transition to pon!

For cane begonia, you need to propagate the cane, smaller stems won't result in a viable plant. Chop like you would a hoya, with two leaves or more and a bit of cane. I would chop the lot, because what are you going to do with multiple and leggy begonias? Popagation vessels: I collect them from charity shops. I have a whole box full of varying shapes and sizes, mostly glass because you can see what's happening and it cleans easily. Looking forward to the next video!

15:19 need containers. I'm fortunate to have a local 2nd hand store in my city that gets tons of glassware. They sell most glassware for less than $1. My entire kitchen windowsill is vintage stemware. My pinguicula pots are sitting in antique, cut glass dessert stemware. I love old glassware & using it for plants pleases me.

This might be late, but for your begonia, I would cut that long stem completely back to near the base of the plant (leave 1-2 inches). From there, I would cut off stem from your cutting until there are ~3 inches of stem before the leaves on your cutting. Pop that cutting into some water and it should root up in a few weeks (higher humidity will help it root faster). As an added bonus, the inch or so of stem that you left in the pot should sprout up a few more stems and help fill out the bald space that the other 2 plants are leaving. Hope this helps!

I’ve never grown that specific begonia but I grow other cane begonia and I usually just chop and prop them in water, but keep the bare stems, they usually bush out again as long as they have good light and water during that period. (Edited to add, if the begonia isn’t wanting to root in water I’ll sometimes put a heat mat under the jar of water as long as it’s big enough and I’m not just cooking my plant lol, and that has ALWAYS done the trick for me if nothing else will)

For small propagations, I use cylindrical dessert cups (like shot glasses, but taller and narrower) from the party section at discount stores. They are the perfect size for a couple of slender stems (Peperomia, Begonia, Syngonium) or vines (Hoya, Philodendron). They don't require a lot of water (or substrate) to come to the right level on the cuttings.

Well the only luck I had propagating a begonia is cut off the (leaf at the lower stem) and planted it back in with the mother plant. Unfortunately though you consider it soil 😅 (some peat moss, tree fern, charcoal, perlite) is my mix. I was so surprised to see these propagate and the mother plant has regrown too. Good luck!

I feel like pinching the top bud has worked decently to activate lower nodes for me. I’m constantly experimenting with my begonia though so it’s hard to remember what’s worked best. I’ve propped in moss, water, and soil but I’d recommend water if going to pon since the roots are so fine (at least on the variety I have they are ).
@suepowell5008

Yep. That's begonias. They look good until they don"t. I propagate my begonias in self watering pots with soil, ( to be precise, soilless mix but yeah) but I don't see why you can't do it in pon. I don't grow in pon, so I don't know details, but begonias are so easy to propagate.... I think you should do a test, perhaps with that big green one, you will have plenty of cuttings to play around with. I also cut the end of the leaves off, up to half, for large leaf varieties so they don't have to worry about hydrating all of that and can put energy into roots. I take my cuttings from the green stems, woody stems don't do as well. I find that every year or 2 I will just get rid of my mother plant, having made a bunch more from it. Oh, and I usually do my cuttings with 3 leaves and 2 nodes on the stem, hopefully you will get roots from both nodes.

I have prop boxes. I too find moss dries out too quick and I just dont have energy for that. So I use clear plastic shoe boxes with some moss in the bottom. The roots take right off because they stay humid, never dry out and if kept in a window they keep warm. Highly recommend.

For the begonia i would cut the whole stem off, then cut it up into smaller sections and put those in moss or water. Keep the cuttings consistently moist and humid. Begonia will root from anywhere along the stem. I have found faster succuss with smaller chop n props than big ones and begonia grow super fast so sizing up from a smaller cutting isn't super painful in my opinion.

Thank you kindly and do you know where I can find more info about the Anthurium Queen, I would love one but I didn't have a good experience with the very common form (the one with the red flower) they sell in garden centres (i got that as gift) - and since then I avoid anthurium, but that leaf is so so sexy and I would love to find out more or try it.
