May I request a "How NOT to build a green wall" video? We all learn so much from mistakes; perhaps more than watching how to do it correctly. It's OK if you haven't figured everything out yet. I'm still very curious about what your process has been and what you have found so far that didn't work. I'd LOVE to watch that and have that info. Thank you for your dedication to our global plant community 💕

Man, in regards to the plant community, the last few years have been rough to watch. Especially here in the US? I'm a shop owner here, and the amount of 'turn and burn' I see BIG name companies here doing is insane. (And if you import, you learn to recognize the signs of a freshly imported plant.) Some of the most popular in the US, some of which are also wholesalers. Like unpack a box of plants and list them for sale the same day type of stuff. And as a businesswoman that takes time to acclimate and such, it's so frustrating to see happen. Despite some of these plants coming commercially available, it's still more cost effective for me to import and acclimate myself. Versus buying potentially flipped imports at a markup from said companies. Tissue culture (by this I mean still in their flask/bag, haven't been hardened off, and are SUPER likely to die once they're shipped again.) flipping is also starting become a thing here. The amount of absolute ELISTISM has become nausea inducing as well. People touting superiority because of the plants they own, and actively making a point to shame others for not being able to afford and/or willing to pay the prices. It's so gross that I've become disengaged with a lot of it, and just put my head down and work. I have also noticed a lot of the 'knowledge flex' you spoke about. Lots of people are so quick to jump in an bash/mansplain/try to convince people their way is 'right' when ultimately it boils down to the individual and their environment. Phew, rant over 😂

You might not have qualifications but you have come such a long way from cutting roots off to fit in a plant pot 🤣🙊 I've done some botany in my degree and it did not teach me much for caring for the plants at all. The best way to learn is to surround yourself without a doubt. Upset with how quiet the community has gone but I have a few close planty friends who i regularly swop and catch up with and it's just the best thing 🥰. I havent heard anything about the TEA groups in years 🤷

First of all I would love all the videos you suggested. When I was in the orchid community it was pretty rough. The older generation was very uptight. They have off the vibe of “ how dare you ask questions, it’s so common sense.” As for tropical plants I’ve seen the rudeness pick up. Although I feel like that happens in any group over time. At the end of the day when people are involved people will be people of you know what I mean.

I have 2 tiny baby jewel orchids as my only and first orchids. Didn't really know what I was getting into but they're growing nicely and I've learnt a ton! Met my first orchid person really ever the other day and my God she tried to beat me down immediately. Saying I must be a newbie, had no idea what I was talking about and that she only deals with "real" orchids. Then said I had more money than sense to buy the "fashionable" plants with no knowledge. I literally got them for 5 bucks each because they were so tiny. And I hadn't asked for help was just asking if she sold whole plants as I was keen to get a purple moth orchid someday. Was really gutted but got home to a new leaf forming in my baby jewel so 🖕 her 😂😂

I am so invested in your horse lol - it seems like you are making great choices and doing all you can. I’d love to see more swimming videos - that is the coolest. I’ve been dreaming about doing an addition with an indoor pool because water aerobics are such a benefit for those of us with certain health issues, but I also want one for my dog who has had two knee replacements and can’t do high impact exercise despite being fairly high energy.

COVID-era-only plant girl, here......I don't miss the inflated prices on plants, early COVID, but I miss the excitement. My local plant pages have gone CRICKETS, for the most part and I miss geeking out, with people and seeing beautiful, new plants I need to bring home. I wish I knew what it looked like before. I hope something cool sprouts up, in the post COVID, of the community. I miss when I started watching your channel and I had backlogs of material, where I could plant chore and watch your content all day 😂

beyond thrilled in the gopro idea tbh. you've been through like SO much, you deserve to just thrive. honestly i was never super involved in any plant communities online, largely couldn't be bothered, like watching youtube and following a few ppl on instagram is more than enough for me. i have such a gripe with that whole "you need a certification" thing, not even from just plants, there are other places online where it was quite bad at times. like, i literally have had 0 education in plants, entirely self taught just for fun, and while i can identify nearly every native plant to my area, and identify most plants i see regardless, i'd never dare say any of that near a plant community because i just know someone would try to argue with me lol

You know what, my husband just left his own programming job at a gaming company here in the US due to company politics and back stabbing (they literally made shit up and lied to HR about him and told him to his face that they lied to HR). I am also a programmer and I just started a new job in June for the same same thing. I wish folks would grow up and get over the high school bully clique bullshit. We're grown not 16. It's the worst. Edit: re: WoW I used to play all the time but after the lawsuit came out and blizzard and the sexism and a girl unaliving herself over it....I will never touch another blizz game. Re: the Harry Potter thing, I imagine it's probably because JK Rowling is a raging TERF and people don't want to give her money

I quit WoW for the same reasons. As women in IT, we have to stand up for each other... whether you're a programmer, a developer, a network admin, or help desk. It's rough out there. I learned that I was making $10k less annually than my male coworker... who was less educated... and who had been there for less time... and therefore was doing less work.... I'm glad you and your husband can understand and support each other. It's rare for couples to have the same career, it's a unique insight you both have into each other's work lives!

Every day scientists discover more about how nature works so even with a qualification there is loads more to learn. And by experimenting and trying you learn a lot. I went to university but learned most of what I know later on. You have loads of experience and share it, successes and failures and new insights ( things you thought were greatgrowers and turned out not so good and vice versa ) and that counts for way more than a piece of paper. And go-pro, yes unless I get seasick if it moves to much ;)

First off - I would love the idea of a GoPro video especially if I could see around the studio. Second vis-a-vis Harry Potter there are two main issues that I am seeing come up. The first being with the game itself and its storyline basis as putting down the goblin rebellion, when there has been issues in the past with the goblins being seen as Jewish characters. Especially as the goblins are a subservient race in Harry Potter to wizards. I’m not entirely educated on this but I know that that’s the basic rundown. Also the biggest issue is Jk’s stance on trans people and the misinformation she publishes about them. I myself am a trans person and as such can no longer interact with Harry Potter content as it hurts too much, even though I loved it dearly as a child. But I also don’t like the stance that some trans people have including my friends stating that everyone must avoid Harry Potter at all costs. it was still an incredibly important cultural event for many people and even many trans-friends that I have still love Harry Potter but they remove J. K. Rowling from the narrative. This might not help at all but that’s just my little info dump from my perspective. I’ve always loved this channel and I’m supporting you 100% all the best. Xxx

Not only the transphobia anymore, she's doing events and taking pics with neo nazis now 😵‍💫 Not saying she is one, but no one hangs out with that crowd unless you agree on some things... I used to be obsessed with Harry Potter, just makes me sad now.

I think it's different for someone like you as a KZbinr and shop owner as it's your profession. Your opinion, experiences and knowledge are taken more seriously since you are an influencer. That said, I've been following you a while and value your information and how you present it. You don't say "this is how you have to do it" just how you have experienced it and you're passing that on to us as viewers.

I’m a frontend developer and I can relate with some of the things you said about your old job with previous companies I worked for, it can suck. Individually most of the people are cool, as people to work with not so much. I was once able to save a baby alocasia azlanii that was rotting, tiny tiny corm. Cut off the rot as much as I could and ended up with half of the corm (it was smaller than my pinky fingernail) dunked it into hydrogen proxyde and then just kep it in pon, watering it carefully. Luckily it started growing back. It’s still small, but it has 3 leaves. I think one of the reasons was that it wasn’t rotting from the roots, but from what looked like a cut on one leaf that I only noticed once it started rotting.

I have gravitated back to gardening. I collected natural science specimens. Since I didn’t go out in the wild actively collecting , I got tired of the consumerism, the consumer mindset. I have discovered that I lean toward being a producer/maker and not a consumer. Working with plants has components of being a producer and also of being a nurturer. *That is more satisfying.

Love that you played WOW! I played until Mists of Pandaria too. Remember the many 'd*ck swinging' of spoiled 'kids' in raiding too with their latest gears/mounts, etc? Sorry to hear about the life challenges. I think we sometimes buckle at some point when it overwhelms, but I promise you'll look back one day and see these times as a period where you grew more to be a better you. Adulting sucks. Truly. And pulling it back to plants... gosh, I can't agree more. These days I'm just grateful I have learned and gained some tacit/instinctive knowledge of what works, and what doesn't- and there's always something new to discover. It's definitely brought me closer to my mum who has a natural green fingers. There's just something indescribable and joyful when I find a gem of a plant that would bring a smile to her face. Keep striving! ❤

Yasss The Queen is Back👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 ❤❤ Glad you spoke out about the community It’s like the plants are great but it’s just the humans keeping them that are just a bit nah sometimes I guess it’s the people that are the problem most of the time With any community whether you keep plants dogs cats…

I found out the golden goddess philodendron is a reverted Thai sunrise, it turns all bright yellow. I got one, that has four in the pot, one has the darker green the Thai sunrise. Weird fact I found out purely by accident.

I would still love a green wall video. In fact I learn more from “mistakes” so if you did a “what not to do green wall” everyone always does the pros/perfect side of things but rarely do they mention the cons or problems they’ve run into and the ladder I find more helpful. Js🤷‍♀️

Personally, I care more about seeing what type and layout of house you chose to go with than the way it sounds when empty. I think a before and after video is brilliant 👏. Plus, I know your 🏠 is going to be condusiveive for house plants. I've already told my husband that when we move, our new home has to have big south facing windows 🪟 🙃.

Hi Kaylee an empty house video would be great to see the space as it is and a follow up with furniture in it would be great, good on you for going with your gut and taking the leap and being your own boss, as for not having a back ground in plants who cares like not everyone is a sex therapist but we all know how to do it and crack an orgasim, need I say more. ! Thanks for sharing with us enjoyable video as always.

Can't wait for the harry Potter game either! it looks amazing. The boycott thing was in regard to JK Rowling and her views on trans people etc, people want us to boycott the game because she gets money from it and uses that money to donate to some places that work against trans rights (I think?) I don't remember exactly but essentially it has to do with her problematic views and nothing about the game itself.

In regards to your question about the new Hogwarts Legacy game: From what I understand, the game's plot revolves around quelling one of the Goblin Rebellions in the 1890s, and the HP franchise has historically engaged in antisemitic tropes with regards to depiction/characterisation of goblins...yeah, it's not a good look, imo & feels very uncomfortable to me.

YES! I've noticed this as well! I'm more active on reddit and I have seen this same kind of shift. I personally enjoy learning, so I've been looking into botany because it's cool. But especially beginners can get some rude answers to questions and ots yucky. Be pleasant, get pleasant.

I'm a dentist and your smile is lovely and shows just the right amount of gum! As we age our lips appear longer and cover more of our teeth, so showing little or none of your gums while smiling is associated with old age. You have the perfect amount for your age! :) Good luck with your Invisalign refinements!

the issue revolving around the harry potter game is because it's harry potter. the franchise at the minute has been in hot water because jk rowling unfortunately revealed herself as a TERF not too long ago (trans exclusionary radical feminist if you weren't aware!) and has some really shitty opinions on trans people :( It's left a really sour taste in lgbtqia people's mouths, so many people don't want to support harry potter since she gets revenue from sales from it. Some people choose to still support harry potter fan creations only, some people have dropped it entirely, and some people are trying to enjoy it regardless since it's special to so many. lots of broken hearts since so many people looked up to her growing up, and the wizarding world is so important to many.

Now the plant question: Is it on the table for you to make a video about technical stuff, I'm mean PPFD for different plant varieties, spectrums, nutrition (NPK and other stuff), some interesting experiments, etc.

Fingers crossed for you and Bobby! I agree on the community but; it's across the board generally... Social media has made us more tribal and divisive, which lends to the toxicity. This age of tech has made us seek like minded people, however you will never agree with people 100%. I'm recently back into plants for about about the past year. Last time, which was 15 years ago(yikes), people could agree to disagree. I feel like there's this urge for uniformity of opinion. It truly has become tribalistic, so nowadays I don't post other than my flowering orchids or whatever is positive. Not worth forcing people's opinion into a homogenized blob, so I just try to be the change I wish to see in the world instead.

So.... about Harry Potter. I don't play video games, so I don't know about the game boycott per se but the whole discourse around JK Rowling right now is focused on her transfobia. She made multiple public statements against trans rights. There is a lot of info online about the whole issue, you can check videos from Lindsay Ellis or ContraPoints if you would like to know more.
