Letting go of the idea of what you thought your life was going to be like is the hardest part of divorce. You mourn the separation of your partner but letting go of your dreams of your future is devastating in my opinion. Especially since it's part of us even before we meet the "one". It doesn't feel like it now but at the end of this chapter of your life you are going to love the women you will become even more so than before. Sending you a giant hug.

You getting a divorce in no way makes a bad person, bad role model etc. You respecting you ex side of the story not dragging anyone down that makes you a good role model. It is normal to feel that sense of failure you are losing something you loved and worked on, but it does not mean you are one or are defined by this. I hope you feel better soon, but it takes time so patience is key.

I have never commented on your channel but have followed it for many years. You are not a failure. Life takes so many twists and turns that you can never be prepared for what is ahead. I remember when I watched How I Met You Mother, Barney had a quote about marriage that stuck with me.... "This isn't a failed marriage: it was a very successful marriage that only lasted three years." The three years part was for the purpose of the show but you can apply your marriage years to it. My point is you are not a failure.

Kayley, like many others have said, you’re not being a bad role model by getting divorced, you’re being an AMAZING role model by respecting someone you’re no longer with and not dragging him through the mud. Also, a great book to read to deal while in a tough situation is “It’s not supposed to be this way” by Lysa TerKeurst. Love you and your channel!

I am a older sister to a younger brother and two younger sisters and I’ve always strived to be perfect and happy. you have taught me how to braid and in return I’ve taught my sisters. you are an inspiration to me, I always wait for a new video and this one truly tops them all. keep your head up high and keep pushing because girl you are amazing 💖

Beyond being curious to what happened to you, I think everyone were more concerned about your well-being and safety (though I did notice you were still active on Twitter, so that was a good sign). I am so glad you decided to open up with us even though you don't have to! I recently went through a breakup which was hard, and I'm sure you've had it harder, but I can at least somewhat understand/relate to what you're going through! It took me a few weeks to function properly, and 3 months later I am only still starting to try and get my life together. So, take your time and please take care of yourself! Above all, welcome back! We missed you and we will always love and support what you do ❤️

This is the first time that I have ever commented. On anyone’s video. But this spoke to me on such a personal level that I had to say something. I split with my husband of 13 years in October. I cried every day for weeks after I made the decision to leave him and move my son and I in with my mom. Divorce is very much like a death and you have to give yourself time and permit to grieve. I so empathize with everything you said here. I felt like a failure and that I was going to end up screwing up my son. But it gets better. I am happier now than I have been in years and I know you will get there too. Your channel was the first channel I subscribed to on KZbin 8 years ago. I have loved your content since then, even when I cut my hair off and couldn’t do most of the styles in your tutorials. I still loves watching them because of your genuine joy in doing what you love. Keep it up, girl!

Rewatching this after the engagement video because I remember my heart breaking when you first posted it - as someone who has learned so much from you to the point where actually caring for my hair and feeling pretty helped my mental health and my social anxiety. And now knowing that two years from when this video was posted you finally found happiness and love and a relationship that makes you feel good and appreciated? It's a real testament to 'It does get better'. Also your lil pup continues to be the most emotionally intelligent dog I've ever seen!

Pippin is such a good pupper. You have been through it my girl. It’s okay to not be okay sometimes. You are such a sunshine filled, beautiful person and you have changed everything about how I do my hair for the better. I lost more than half of my hair due to a medication and since then have struggled to feel alright about my hair but a lot of your videos have helped me cope with that and love my hair again. You are so pure and sweet and that is so hard to come by on KZbin, and honestly the internet in general. There is very little you could do that would make us love you any less. I’m glad you are healing and I’m happy to see that you are being loved and taken care of by your family and your excellent pupper. Love.

Kayley.. here comes big sister talk. I'm older so that works. I hope you'll read this. You don't have to be perfect, life isn't perfect. Letting go of the plan that you had for your own life is the HARDEST thing! It feels like disappointing your child self. I've been there, I am there. My concrete plan was to be a missionary with a husband and 4 kids. Now I'm in a gay marriage and it couldn't be more different. But that's OKAY! You'll grow SO MUCH from that. To see that you're not perfect and that life isn't. It's actually so librating! And exiting too! Just live one day at a time!! Be yourself and don't judge yourself for being human and vulnerable!!!! I'm so proud of you for the way you made this video, not throwing shade and just being such a kind human! You are brave and strong! And amazing the way you are!! Don't let yourself tell you otherwise! You'll come out sronger, just take my word for it

KAYLEY my heart. We have missed you so much and I am so glad you're back on your own terms! I also got divorced in the last year (after having gotten married around the same time as you) and moved back across the country closer to my family. (twinsies) Every situation is different, but I definitely understand the difficulty of having to explain when there was no clickbait ~event~ that signaled the end. You should be so proud of yourself for making the right decision for both of you, and you should be extra proud of yourself for having the courage to open up to us. I can't imagine what it's like having these fans who feel like we know you and definitely love you, but you don't know us as individuals. That's a scary crowd to be vulnerable in front of! You are amazing and strong. Keep taking care of yourself. We're not going anywhere! Also PS I am so happy you have Pippin and your sister. You deserve all the support you get and more!

Oh, Kayley. 😢 I have watched every video of yours since the green sheet days. I went through a divorce about 3 years ago and it was so, so hard. I lost so much hope. But it got better. I grieved and healed and met the man of my dreams and we just got married and we are SO better matched than my ex and I were. You are a passionate, beautiful, successful woman and you WILL find love again. Divorce is not failure. It is learning and growing. It is going to be okay, sweetheart. 💕

I don't know even how to start... I cried with you the whole video - not because i'm sad, but because i'm so, so, so proud...! I don't know you, but for some reason I really love you in a level that see you hurt makes me wanna go there and feed you with love... And ice cream! These moments in life make us grow, and i have to believe that is for the better, as I know what is like to be depressed, to be hopeless, to struggle to get out of bed, have to come back to the family nest and re-build the life from scratch. It took courage to put this video out here, we can see it, and don't worry about us, we are loyal, and you deserve the loyalty for being this amazing beam of light in the world. When I am down, few things put me back on my feet like your videos, how long and I'll wait as you rise again, supporting you in everything. By the way, I am a child of divorce, and like with many friends of mine, the rupture made both mom and dad to flourish into happier and better people. Oh, and I loved your ideas for the channel, can't wait to watch!

Kayley, Kayley, Kayley, Kayley! I'm middle-aged and one thing I have learned is life rarely ever works out the way you think it will or should. Right now I'm dealing with my mother having dementia and I never imagined she would because no one else in her family had it, that I'm aware of. I never married or had children. I don't have a career or any savings because life keeps throwing curveballs at me. I've learned to see it all as an adventure and to be flexible with my plans/goals. I've also learned that there is something good in each difficulty and that the quality of my life depends on focusing on the good rather than the bad. I know how you feel about hating to make mistakes because I've always been that way, but guess what? Making mistakes is inevitable. So, embrace it all and be kind to yourself. God loves you more than you know regardless of what happens in your life.

I never comment on videos, but I feel it's time to make an exception. I've been watching your videos for the past 7 years. I started when I was in the middle of a depression, and learning how to have fun and be creative with my braiding really helped me focus on something else. You came across as a such a lovely person and you almost felt like a friend. I especially appreciated when we got to see a glimpse of you life, like when you decided to go in to cosmetology school, got married, moved, told us about your depression, and now this. There isn't such a thing as a "perfect" life, and I think you're incredibly brave for sharing your story and I think that is a big part of why I've almost consider you as a friend for so long. I sure I'm not talking just for me when I'm saying, don't be scared of being yourself in front of the camera! I'm really looking forward to watch your videos, just make sure you don't get too stressed about it. We can wait if you're not feeling well! Lots of love from Sweden

I also divorced young, and I identified with so much of what you said -- Being a perfectionist, everything "by the book", never in my life imagining something like that would happen to me, and consequently feeling like a failure on so many levels. But what I can tell you is that it is so hard and will be painful for a long time, but it DOES get better, you WILL heal, and you are NOT a failure. This doesn't define you even if it feels like it right now. Praying for comfort for you during this time ❤️

Kayley, thank you for sharing this with us, it couldn't have been easy. Just so you know, I probably don't watch every one of your videos but I've always loved your tips, info and most importantly your personality. I just attended a friend's wedding 2 days ago and looked up one of your braiding videos to style my hair for the reception. I've been following you since I was a teenager and haven't found anyone else that beats your styles, the ease of how you explain things, and your relatability. You're right in saying that not posting on KZbin kills channels, but just remember that in the 9 years you've been doing this, you've built up a following, fan base and FAMILY on KZbin who would stick by you no matter how absent you are. And don't you dare think for a second that you don't deserve that! x

Hi Kayley! You are not a bad person, life happens and sometimes things don't go the way we plan them. If getting divorced was the best thing to do for yourself, that's ok. Stop saying you don't deserve support, you do and we got you. Lots of love from Italy💕 P.s Pippin is the sweetest 😍

I found your channel about three or four years ago and I was in the deepest point of my depression after my dad died. It was a very rough moment, hard to wake up and do things and found no reason to take care of myself. Finding your channel gave me motivation and a reason to try new things because I always loved my hair so through your tutorials I started to remember how much I loved styling. At first, I was only watching your videos, then started trying the styles (and failing hehe), kept going, bought a curling wand, bought an iron, sooo many bobby pins and finally, after months of feeling terrible I started to look at myself, feel pretty and capable of doing something well, like I actually liked myself a bit again and at that moment that was HUGE. So I am forever grateful to you and your channel. We all go through painful moments in life, moments when we fall and find it harder to stand and that's ok. It doesn't make us weak, just reminds us we are humans facing life and that is never easy. You are not alone and again, thank you forever for being here and sharing yourself with all of us. :)

You’re not a failure. You’re going through a tough life change. I’m a little older, but I’ve been watching your hair tutorials from the beginning (the green curtain), and still refer to them now. You have a great support system and lots of understanding subscribers. Take whatever time you need - we’re not going anywhere! Things will get easier over time ❤️❤️

Man, it must have been tough. I’m glad you took the time off to recenter yourself after all you’ve been through. I will admit I was like “hmm … it’s been a while. I hope everything is okay.” Something tells me you wouldn’t want to do this unless you had to. I’m sorry to hear things didn’t work out and in some cases, divorce is a solution. I know you tried and I know it’s not ideal but it may be best for both of you to be better people apart then together. I thought it was very professional when you decided not to go into the details and truly appreciate it. It must have taken a lot of courage and inner strength to come to this conclusion and then to go back to doing what you love. My heart goes out to you and I look forward to your next video when you’re ready.

I’m so sorry you’re in a difficult chapter right now, Kayley. I adore your channel and have grown so much in my own self care through your tutorials and product recommendations. Seriously, as a mom of two, I never have time for me. But little pointers (like Kristen Ess Style Assist! 😍) have empowered me to find little ways to take care of me and feel presentable AND chase after my kids. That’s huge. And I’m so grateful for all of the time and energy you put into your channel. I can’t wait to see what’s next, good things are in store for you!

I haven’t watched many of your videos however those that I have watched you are a happy upbeat lady. That’s enjoyable to me. Pippin is awesome and has your back and I love that he gives you kisses. Words of wisdom now. Your marriage failed you did not! What you’re going through hurts so immensely but remember everything happens for a reason. You both received what you needed from each other in a sense. Now your new adventure and journey has begun. Remember it’s better to have loved and lost than not knowing love at all. Time will heal you...and your joyous personality will shine on through! Hugs 🤗

From one recovering perfectionist to another... the most liberating thing I've experienced in my 28 years was loving myself enough to unlearn the BS myth that perfectionist exist and see it for what it is: an unending trap that sets us up to be chronically dissatisfied with yourself, and be stuck in a place of "never enough". You DO deserve support. Perfection isn't human (and also pretty boring, haha); who you are in this video is HUMAN and beautiful, and so much more relatable. We think the armour of perfection protects us, when it really weighs us down, down, down. We're here as digital sisters to help each other learn all the way we will never be unloveable. Now as Meryl Streep once said, "Take your broken heart, and turn it into art". Don't doubt if its good enough. It is.

I needed to hear this too as I also am a struggling perfectionist to the point I went through depression because I would often compare myself to others and feel never good enough. I think the best life lived is one where you live like a child. They only focus on the moment and not get caught up on the past or future, not self conscious allows them to have fun in every little thing and every little moment. If you do your best with the time you had right now and the strength you have right now that's all that matters. Your mental attitude reflects in the outcome. A dancer on stage who is terrified and afraid to fall and look dumb will inevitably look awkward and stiff. But one who loses herself in the moment and enjoys every second of it as it passes looks way better and feels better. One day at a time we have to watch our thoughts and believe... Soon we will be and achieve. To change the external we must first change the internal

So, i've watched your videos since the forrest green backdrop you had.. :D and did see you get engaged and then get married...then move to LA.. Yes, been following for years.. :) and when you posted on IG yesterday that a "life update" video will go up tomorrow... i just knew.... It is indeed a devastating thing..divorce, i mean... unfortunately, i went through a divorce too and know all to well how you feel.. :(( When you said that you "could've written your life 500 times and would've never written it this way" i burst into tears... It just hit home so hard for me... Anyway, it's been years for me now.. and i'm ok for the most part.. it's just seeing videos like this really brings back the emotions so hard, because i can actually relate... Kayley, i wish you a speedy recovery. You did the right thing moving back closer to home - i did the same and it helped a lot! Sending big, bear hugs your way. You're not alone.

You’ve been such a positive part of YT to me Kayley, you seem like a genuinely good woman and you are on the reasons I got more into YT last few years. Since I’m ONE subscriber I can say to you what you’ve meant to me: whenever you uploaded I would get a smile on my face, you’re an oasis of calm and more than once I’ve played your videos as background noises and so on. I used to HATE my hair, but since meeting you I’ve grown to love and accept that, and as an MD and grown woman, that tinny bit of confidence and self love has helped me get my day done and don’t feel like a failure at the end of the day. Feeling good about the way you look makes a whole lot of difference and you’ve helped me there, yes Im confident in my work but Im also a human I like to feel good and sometimes just braiding my hair before a 32 hr shift can help. Im sorry you had to go through this Kayley, but you’ll get beyond it. I can feel it, you look like you have a great support system and you’ve got a job you love. So just heal, we’ll still be here when you come back.

I just started watching you and subscribing. Watched numerous videos and came upon this. Take it from a 47 year old woman who has been there, done that. You got this! Divorce sucks. It is a death to what you thought life would be. But trust me. Be you, get to know you and what you want in life. The forever is out there. You will make it through. I notice you have a wild following and so much support. Allow yourself to mourn. But make yourself move on. Fake it too you make it lol. Look forward to watching so much more of your hair and oh my goodness the organizing/crafty videos, yes yes yes! Good luck!
