@@miriamgrace4172 hi! recent graduate from spa nail / cosmetology school here.. another indicator of how short to cut back on your cuticles (besides the pain or bleeding) is if you soak your cuticles with water in a little finger bowl first before pushing back.. you will see lighter / whiteish translucent skin around your nail plate. This is safe to cut as it is dead tissue! xx Just make sure your nail plate is fully dried and cleansed before going in with gel or acrylic enhancements after this short soak.. as too much water during nail prep will interfere with retention (longevity.. lifting.. etc)! But it’s a nice guide for how much to trim until you’re comfortable and can perform something like a dry manicure :’ )

I bought a Saviland kit from Amazon and I just removed my first set after 3 weeks. So glad that I can do my own nails now, and that actually last! The whole kit cost way less than a set of acrylics and today I'm getting creative this time, as the set I just removed was my tester because I wasn't sure how long they would last. 😁 Perfect video as I begin to prep my nails. Thanks for the helpful tips.

As a 30 + year licensed nail tech, my advice is to apply your cuticle softener and only push back your cuticles one time. You can damage your nail by pushing at them so much. Also don't cut any cuticle that is not lose. Otherwise, I love your application of these type of nails. I bought a gelish.set.a few years back, and I'm gonna get it back out and work with it again!!

Thank you for commenting from a tech point of view. I have been watching people for a year now. And watching young nails. I have a brain injury and have spent $100s of dollars on acrylic and gel products and dip and this and that. And am lost in the product. After yesterday I spent 8 hours over 2 days and am walking around with 1 hand done. I gave up this morning after another 4 hours and realizing I forgot to apply protein bond (young nail product). I should be a master tech by now! I look like a fool. My nails are so thin. I need help ask for help and no one helps.

I bought a Beetles nail kit with a UV light, fake nails, and nail glue and a separate nail drill on Amazon just yesterday because my friend suggested it. I was spending 40-60 USD at the salon every 3-4 weeks or spending 9 USD every week (32 USD monthly) on fake, glue-on acrylic nails, which is still ridiculously expensive considering they didn't last for a straight week, I had to glue them on periodically throughout the week until they couldn't stick. This video helped me understand proper nail prep and application with a UV light and nail drill. I took notes, literally lol It's the most helpful video out there, at least for my needs. Thank you

Also, from a professional point of view, do not flood your cuticle area with the dehydrator and primer. This can harm your cuticles over time. Keep the product on the nail itself. You also need to use a very thin base coat of the gel (process before you place on the artificial nail) on the natural nail.
@ewbae3402
@ewbae3402 2 жыл бұрын

@@ewbae3402 correct, not the artificial nails, your natural nail. There is a skin disease that will develop over time when you continue to have primers and bonders on the skin. It is necessary so there is no lifting of gel or acrylic products. Since you are starting out new, I would recommend watching Young Nails videos. Greg likes to update me techniques for beginners.

@@ewbae3402 For the Gel-X, their kit is pretty amazing at Apres Nails. The Gel-X Prep does not come in the kit and I would purchase that along with the kit if you are going to use the Gel-X system. But if you are going to play with other kits, Gelish has a kit also and I really like those products. I can't say enough about Young Nails. I love love love their systems but I would go with just the acrylics instead of the gel extensions when it comes to Young Nails. This is the big thing also. If you have flat nails or if you have a good rounded top to your nails it depends if you need a thicker gel product like IBD's hard gel. Poly gel could also help to keep it in place. It helps fill in the tip underneath the natural nail better when it comes to flat nails. But you will need to flash cure for 10-15 secs so the heat spikes don't burn your nails. And I use the Natural nail tips for it as well from Apres Nails. They are made for more flat nails. Kiara Sky Gelly tips are out there to play with. If you are wanting to practice, you can purchase cheaper products at Amazon and you can help build your technique up without spending a fortune.

At the beginning of 2022, one of my goals was to always have pretty nails on my hands. It's something I've always wanted to do but could not afford going every few weeks to spend $80+ to get them done. So I did some research and purchased a couple hundred dollars worth of different products to find the best fit for me. Gel extensions were my favorite! They were so satisfying to put on and I enjoyed the freedom of length it gave me. However, after a few months of doing them myself my natural nails took a massive hit. They were very thin and brittle, and they tend to be like that naturally but it got even worse over time. I'm not a professional by any means, so I assume it was because I was doing something wrong during the removal process but I'm not sure what, as I've followed step by step removal videos literally to the T. I even tried using gel extensions with regular nail polish (Lights Lacquer have some of the best regular polishes I've tried to date) for the nail art to see if that would help during the removal process but still would see the same results. I decided to try and grow out my natural nails in an effort to get them strong and healthy again, ngl I miss doing the gel extensions sooo much, but I wanna try and see if I can get my natural nails to the point where I won't need the extensions! I'm using a very fine and thin dip powder on my natural nails to give them added strength, (I use two coats as my nails are very brittle still but one coat should be fine if your nails are stronger), and then a couple layers of regular polish (Lights Lacquer) as well as use jojoba oil once/twice a day on my cuticles. I started doing this the beginning of March and can already see the difference in length and quality. I love gel extensions, don't get me wrong. I just feel like, in my opinion, anything that requires soaking your nails for an extended length of time with acetone, can deteriorate the health of your natural nail so badly. Again, I'm not a professional, I did not go to school for this or anything like that, I'm speaking from the point of view of a consumer that has tried several different types of methods for nail extension. I love watching gel extension videos though, always so satisfying to see the process from beginning to end and the results always come out so beautiful! Especially kayli's :):) I hope this helped anyone reading!

im in the exact same position, I've had fake nails for a long time (done professionally) and my nails are in such bad condition :( I used to have lovely long nails, now they're thin and peeling. I'm considering either accepting this and doing gel extensions at home or growing my nails out. I'm just worried about discolouration of natural nails at the back and the pressure of making sure they dont break. Would love to hear an update if you stick with growing your nails or go back to extensions!

@@delfi3007 Have you tried using HEMA free gel polishes? That's apparently the ingredient that causes the reaction in a lot of people.. Madam Glam makes them and i know a few other brands have started to as well! I just started using gel products and i'm so scared of eventually developing an allergy

I love watching people give tips on how to do nails, and also the products they use, I just work a lot so I never have time for it because I get home late at night. But I’ve also had bad experience with nail salons getting stuff that I didn’t ask for or getting something that doesn’t look great and I’m over priced for it. I keep up with my nails I trying to grow them out but they always break off at my job

You're videos are helping me learn how to do my own nails. I've done them a handful of times but I struggle getting them to fit my nail correctly and keeping them from lifting and popping off. I also have a bigger lamp than my travel size more portable one. I have to cure my thumbs separately with it 🤣 but the big one I can put my whole hand in.

I recently moved to LA and I can't afford getting acrylics every month but I love having longer strong nails. When I first started getting my nails done, I chose acrylic so that I would not have to strip my nail every time. I recently tried doing dip on my self and it took me hours and the results were not the greatest (ik i need practice). Would you recommend doing gel x instead? I am afraid that removing the gel x every time i wanna change my manicure will weaken my nails significantly. What do you think?

Lol I’m not Kaylee, but I have been doing my own gel x nails for about 9 months now, and they are in better shape now then they were when I had acrylics :) I just recommend to go easy on the buffing of your natural nails when you’re prepping them for the extensions, and to make sure that when you soak them off to never pry the material off, but wait for it to fall off. I also use a daily keratin treatment on my nails twice a day, cuticle oil once or twice a day, and in between manicures I like to wait a day or two and use Sally Hansons clear strengthening polish on my bare nails. As long as you’re gentle and you take care of your nails there shouldn’t be damage. Hope this helps!!

@@kayliboyle do you think you can do a video on how to do those nails that have like a light pink or nude and ombré out to clear and under the clear is like heart decals or sparkle decals because idk how that would work with gel x bc with acrylic they lay clear over the top to encapsulate it? Idk if that made any sense to you sorry 🤣😵‍💫

You should look into getting a peal off base coat for your videos. That way you can easily remove your nails set after set for when you don’t intend to wear them for long. They also can tune into reusable press ons after that :)

Oh!! After you peel off the base and used a colored base or other designs on top: I cut or punch out little shapes or lines that I then use as nail decals; then finish w clear topcoat or a pretty sheer HOLO (shoutout to Christine!) please add her channel here for credit - I can’t remember just now!
