Hi I Know what you mean, I Craft a Lot too, I have only ever made a Brightly Coloured Nurses Cape & 2 Crowns. I didn't mind these as they are for a little girl with Autism, my Crafts I have made her are the ONLY ones she wants. It started with me making a Colourful hair Ragdoll for her Mum & as soon as she was back from Nursery that was it, Mum couldn't get it back even when I made her a replacement daughter has that too & everything else. Since then I have always made her Mini Bears in Costume & this Year it's a Astronaut Bear & Vet Bears. She's has Mini Bears, A Rabbit, Safe Flowers to chew, Sun & Cloud if happy or sad, A Rainbow Bear, hedgehog, Grasshopper which took a Year to do, a Ready-made sloth that I finished & put a Pink polka Dot Cowboy hat, Santa Spoons. I've lost count now oh I including things for her 2 Sisters & Mother too & I'm currently working on 50 Christmas Gifts too, that I started in April.

A little late to mention this… but if you do something like this again maybe using chicken wire fencing to make the shape then wrapping it may be faster and less tinfoil

I was thinking about trying to make this (but with fabic on top instead of clay b/c I lack both money & talent), but was thrown off a little by the sheer volume of tinfoil I would need. Using chicken wire to build out the shape is SUCH a good idea!!

I am so glad you got out the power sander. My hands were hurting for you when you were smoothing on the clay. Air dry clay seems perfect for this application though, unfortunately. Probably a lot lighter than using... spackle? or plaster? The hardware store powder stuff you add water to and use to fill in holes on dry wall. Which is what I was considering if I make a similar thing because it seeeeeems like it would be easier and cheaper than clay? But so heavy! and maybe fragile. This is sooo perfect! Editor Sarah definitely lucked out on the store being out of stock (and obviously having you in her life) And I’m so happy to see you do the thing and fight your dysphoria! I used to have huge body image issues for reasons that I believe are similar to yours. But pushing myself to wear what I want and not the things that cover me up the most has definitely helped a ton. And so does seeing people that look somewhat like me and realizing they are truly beautiful. And let me tell you, you look absolutely gorgeous in those overalls and cat socks! I honestly got a bit weak in the knees when I saw you in them (obviously, you are beautiful in anything but that outfit really, really works for you). I'm so proud of you Kaypea!! It takes a lot to overcome body dysmorphia to even do something as 'simple' as show your whole body on camera, because even something so minor can be a huge milestone in embracing oneself! As someone with body dysmorphia and have had it since I was little, it makes me so happy to see someone like me embrace who they are-insecurities and all, especially seeing someone with the same body type as me! Yours is so much cuter! Plus, Zero? Omg...love her! The store bought ghost I've seen is a resin figure that's only a few inches high, so I'm not surprised that you struggled! Making small sculptures vs large sculptures are very different! Building methods change a lot. I was torn between studying sculpture and jewelry, so I definitely understand how scale impacts construction by doing both. Some tips I've learned along the way that you, or others (hi friends!), might find helpful: Use chicken wire or sculpting mesh to make the bulk of the form. You can push wrinkles into it, cut and add pieces, etc. But if you don't have access to these, remember that newspapers are great for adding bulk without much weight. If you don't get the newspaper, as who under 50 does, lol, ask neighbors who do put out recycling. I'm sure someone would donate some. For big hemispheres, like the top of his head, you can buy a cheap yard ball from Walmart. Those character printed ones are typically a few bucks and can be taped in place wedged inside a box. Or you can see if friends or neighbors have an old ball you can reuse. Since you're covering it anyway, it doesn't matter what it looks like! The plaster strips were a great idea, though, and definitely a preferred medium for making something like this. I'd have added plaster hole filler/spackle to smooth out the surface instead of the clay. You can spread it on, let it cure, then sand it easily. It's much easier to smooth out than clay, typically dries faster, and as you're adding plaster to plaster, it bonds well and you don't have to cover the whole thing. I do hope to see more videos where you push yourself and try new things! (I have body dysmorphia too, and I absolutely HATE being on camera! Proud of you for going outside your comfort zone and doing the thing!) ❤
