Have you guys used the Rode Videomic NTG? What's your take on good quality shotgun mics for video?
@elijahtrenton83514 жыл бұрын
Kyle Romanek I don’t know much about mics but Izotope has this software ‘Rx’ that you can use to fix lots of audio problems including ambient noise. It has a feature called Dialogue Isolate where you can separate dialogue from background noise. You might want to check it out. They also have an Emmy...

It is the one and only mic I use on my computer Zoom/Teams/etc calls, voiceovers, etc. Obviously it also goes with my camera when I leave the house. Yeah, I guess you could say I use it for pretty much everything.

Hi, I have a quick question, Does the Videomic NTG work with your iPhone via a connection using the USB-C to Lightning cable that came with the iPhone? I tried using the cable that came with the iPhone but the mic and iPhone doesn't seem to connect. I actually sent an email asking RODE whether using the cable that came with the iPhone should be a viable option, instead of answering with a simple 'yes' or 'no', they replied to my email by recommending the SC-15 and called the USB-C to Lightning cable that came with the iPhone a 'third-party cable". It would suck if the SC-15 is a requirement to use the Videomic NTG with the iPhone. Thanks!

Thanks for this info! I am looking to upgrade my audio from a Rode Lavalier GO Lapel Mic. I create talking-head KZbin videos in a fairly well-treated room and plan to upgrade to a boom mic above my head. I would like to find the best mic that I can plug straight into camera (Fuji XT3), so I don’t have to sync audio in post. I’m considering the Rode VideoMic NTG , NTG2, NGT4+, and Sennheiser MKE 600. Which of these mics do you think would be better for my application? I have heard the MKE 600 and others may have better audio quality (but I would be powering them via 3.5mm, not XLR), but I wonder if the difference would justify getting that over the Rode- which has a power system that I can more easily charge, is cheaper, and seems to sound great. The Rode also has a gain knob on the mic so I could avoid using the camera’s gain. My KZbin channel is called Hope Through Prophecy in case you would like to see my current setup. Thanks for any help!

Your production and story telling is amazing. How do you only have 9k subs?! Anyways, I’m torn between the VideoMic NTG and the NTG4+. I want to use it primarily as a boom mic for KZbin content but occasionally for podcast/live streams and even more occasionally on a camera rig with my A7SIII. Do you think there’s a huge leap in sound quality between the NTG4+ and VideoMic NTG?

I'm looking for a microphone that won't pickup ambient noise from all my computer and networking gear in my home office for my KZbin videos that I make. What microphone does a good job and is under $500? I'd prefer to not have to sync in post if possible and adapt right into the 2.5mm jack on the camera if possible.
@kyleromanek4 жыл бұрын
Shiny Tech Things Rode NT USB Mini or NT USB Microphone. Look those up
@ShinyTechThings4 жыл бұрын
@@kyleromanek thanks, I just did. Looks like it will perform similar to my Blue Yeti USB microphone which I use for voiceovers but I'd like something for when I'm shooting in camera. I have a purple panda lavalier microphone which works okay but again you can hear my servers and network switches running inside my server rack. I have a Pyle over the ear mic adapted from mini XLR to 2.5mm but it records kind of in mono and I have to rebalance in post. The purple panda one does stereo but picks up more of the background noise. I don't mind spending some money on something that will make my audio sound way better. I did a video of a lavalier microphone hack using zip ties and a heat gun, sounds great but looks totally ghetto and if you are OCD you'll not want to watch me wearing it.
@islingtonfreenewsmedia3 жыл бұрын
DON'T use a condenser mic of any sort!! I suffered for ages then realised that a dynamic mic is the right thing to use, condensers are massively sensitive and no matter how directional, in a a room with objects to bounce off they will seriously bugger up your efforts, all the best from Ifnmedia!

This advice is fantastic: "This is a great all-around mic. And just like any tool in your kit, you need to find out for yourself where it shines and where it totally sucks ass, and how to compensate for the ass sucking. It's less about you know judging a book by its cover and more about when you take something and you put it in a practice you know you have a certain expectation as to how it's going to perform and [how] it can let you down. And when it does let you down shouldn't just throw it out the window and say gosh that was that's not worth it." THANK YOU FOR SAYING THIS!! It's point that gets lost in so many gear reviews.

When I worked as a camera assistant for a local tv station, I was responsible for sound recording. What I've learned in those years is that you never use an on-camera mic in loud conditions. Even a boom mic like the Sennheiser MKH416 could be too directional to pick up the boat engine sound when you hold it in an angle towards the person while the engine is close by that person. Instead you use wireless lavalier mics. Pretty easy to set up and you get great sound from it. Don't expect wonders from an on-camera mic! Now I'm working as kind of a VJ camera woman and if I need good sound I use the Sennheiser AVX wireless system. A cheaper version would be the Rode wireless go II system. My on-camera mic is only recording ambient sound.

Hi! So, I’m a complete sound-rookie and was hoping you could help me understand the real differences between XLR and 3.5mm microphones. From what I’ve been able to learn, the basic differences are: 1. XLR cables are balanced and a safer way to do long connections without having interferences; and 2. XLR mics need phantom power to work. But other than that, do XLR microphones output better sound quality compared to a good 3.5mm microphone? If the only real advance of XLR only comes with their cables… Wouldn't it be better to use a 3.5mm microphone (which tends to be more versatile, like the Rode Video NTG) and use and 3.5mm-to-XLR converter when you need to do a long connection to continue using the more trusted XLR cables?

Brooooo, Best, honest, fun, flippant and cool to watch video on this mic! SUB'D! Question for you, I'm super new to this, like I've just realised I'm better than filming using my Samsung note 10 and Shure Video mic Mv88+ (bwark, no seriously it was bad except for the monitor out jack, oh I miss it like a bad ex) and I have upgraded...gulp.... I got the Sony zv-1 camera (it's halfway from smartphone and WTF is ISO ) I got the rode video NTG, wireless Go and lav Go, boom, stand etc. Now, one thing I think is weird is why are their no monitors outputs on these mics? It's a scary as hell filming using visuals on the camera... I'm an ex dance music producer and I need good ole waves into my ears. My question is, are you aware of any decent high-quality splitters for use with Wireless go or NTG so I can plug my ole trusty HD25 Mk2s in and still record my audio? If you don't reply to this I will stay around, look at your videos, go through your trash, but it would help someone starting out who's kinda on second base 🤣🤣
