It is a lovely design no matter what fabrics you use. It is time consuming for sure but a recipient would be in awe of it as a gift. I guess the best things take time to make as they have all that extra love poured into them.

Pleased you enjoyed it Virginia. You should go for it because it looks fabulous hung up at Christmas. I can give you a tip to save time I stitch out colour 2 of each hooping onto tear away stabilizer so that I can plan and cut all my fabrics in advance , this saves a lot of time especially when using scraps. Thank you so much for the tip to turn off the machine after an "oops moment"! I had no idea that the machine could be messed up because of that. I wondered why things got off, thought it was me (well, probably was mostly! Lol!). Another fantastic video, Kay!

Thank you Margaret pleased you enjoyed it. Yes after any problem such as broken needle or snag, birds nest it is best to turn it off. It doesn't take mush to de-calibrate the embroidery arm in those situations. Same as after a thread break I always take the bobbin out and re-thread it before setting off again because it can cause the bobbin thread to not pick up, which can be very frustrating.

Ohhhh congratulations you must be really excited and counting the days. It is a steep learning curve but well worth persevering. If you have a look in my video descriptions you will see all the supplies I use, I get most of them from Amazon so you shouldn't have a problem sourcing them in your country. My biggest advice to anyone getting started is this... machine embroidery is not a cheap hobby, if you are going to skimp on anything let it be your fabrics and not your stabilizer. The stabilizer provides the solid foundation to your building so to speak, skimp here and you will have disappointing results which is not only a waste of stabilizer but fabric and thread too making it even more expensive. Very very important....Get some basic lessons from your machine dealer so that you know how to thread it, hoop it and how to access the settings and at least learn how to skip backwards and forwards though stitches and colours as this comes in really handy when you get a thread breakage and learn how to adjust the top thread tension this sometimes needs changing depending on your fabric and what you are stitching, for example with puffy foam as used in the Paws for Though design, you have to loosen your tension so as not to flatten your foam, then of course afterwards you put it back to what it was on before. I can teach you how to stitch out designs but I can't teach you the basics you need to to operate your machine. As a basic get yourself started supplies kit, get yourself the following: Some cotton quilters batting. Batting is used to make nearly all Kreative Kiwi designs. I use polyester-fleece a lot as you can see in most of my videos. I use a medium 4oz weight poly fleece, it looks and feels very smooth so your foot wont get caught up in it. I tend not to use open type wadding as the embroidery foot can get caught up in the fibers as it travels over it. A box of 63 Simthreads in Brother colours. This gives you a good colour selection to stitch anything and the threads are good quality and done break constantly. I love these threads and the price is excellent too. Real value for money and great colours. Super Punch wash away stabilizer. This is a great stabilizer for any design with an embroidered edge and for free standing lace designs and gives consistently reliable results time after time. New Brothread cut away stabilizer 10" x 25 or 50 yards it is excellent. This is my favorite cut away and it does it's job very well without costing a fortune. I don't use tear away stabilizer at all, yes it is very cheap but I find it to be a waste of time and money. It is paper and it really doesn't hold up under satin stitching or large fill areas. I ended up wasting fabric and thread as it was tearing during stitching defeating the whole object of the exercise. A pair of double curved scissors or squizzors for cuting away your batting and fabric. That is enough to get you going and stitch out any Kreative Kiwi designs. Some cotton fat quarters that go well together to give you a variety of fabrics that you can mix and match. I usually buy two the same as this gives me enough to make larger things like runners and such that have the same fabric in each segment. I hope this helps you to get started. Happy stitching!

I love your tutorials!! Is there some reason you don't trim the pieces before you go onto another fabric piece? I would think that would prevent the oops. but I haven't done this so there may be a logical reason. I do love this design!!

Thanks Lynda. The reason you don't trim the outer edges is so that the backing fabric stitches on to the front fabric firmly but you do trim up the excess fabrics as you add them before the satin stitch detail is done . The oops moment was caused by the foot going under the edge fabric as I hadn't taped it down properly.

Can you use invisible thread that's for a regular sewing machine or does it need to be special made for embroidering? I actually don't know what weight it is, the label has fallen off. Also, I finally purchased the H20 Gone Stabelizer - it's fantastic!

Hi Linda I used 40 wt invisible thread bought from Amazon try yours on something you will soon find out. As long as your top thread and bobbin thread are the same thickness you should be fine. Pleased you like H2O Gone is really is the best in my opinion.

I'm getting ready to try this. I'm not a quilter and I've never done something like this before. I have machine embroidered for 17 years. I love the pink version. How many different fabric patterns were used in that?

Hi Dawn I am sorry I didn't make the pink tree so I dont know, you would have to count them from the image. You can of course use as many or as few fabrics as you like when you make it. Happy stitching.

Question, would it cause any problems to add a little batting under the bauble to make it poof a little? I was thinking of using a lame' fabric rather than vinyl as you did so it wouldn't be so thick.

Hi Margaret yes you certainly could do that. If you used something like scuba fabric which is a 4 way stretch knit you could get them quite poofy without any difficulty.

can you trim all your fabric up as you go instead of doing the main trim at the end.

You can but the idea of not trimming until after the back goes on is to make sure that the front fabrics don't fray through the stitches due to being handled repeatedly. I hope this helps you.

Hi Carol, no no special needle required I stitch everything with a 75/11 needle for all my stitching.
