I had an engine overhaul at 500k, but otherwise it just had oil changes every 4k, and new brake pads, tires, clutches, and some small interior bits here and there. It was pushing 30 years old but it drove like it did when brand new. Unfortunately it was totaled when a distracted driver smashed it as it was parked on the street. I would definitely buy another Volkswagen. Treat it well, and it will return the favor. Problem is many drivers especially in the US neglect cars. Tires are often under inflated, people go past the oil change interval, etc.

LegIsLate sorry ... but Fact is ... TOYOTA is still the King for recalls, more than 10 million cars worldwide !!!
@nigahiga64009 жыл бұрын
rahascha To be fair, the SUA recall for Toyota wasn't because of a design fault. SUA can only be caused by the pedal sticking from a floor mat, driver error, or gummed up cables on older cars. Every story involved the car suddenly accelerating while the brakes were unable to stop it. Truth is, almost every car's brakes will overpower the engine and stop the car. I've tried it on my '66 Plymouth Fury with a 426 crate motor and 500 wheel horsepower. Engine at full throttle, hard on the brake pedal, and the car stops. Drivers who claimed that their brakes failed simply pressed the wrong pedal. The brake pedal is physically connected to the master cylinder so there's no chance of it failing from an electrical fault. A common claim is that the harder the driver presses the brake, the faster the car goes. This is clear evidence of driver error. Modern brake systems are much more reliable than ones from 50 years ago. Audi faced a similar problem with the Audi 5000, reports of sudden unintended acceleration. It was determined to be driver error due to the difference in design of the 5000's pedal setup compared to American cars. And while we're on the subject of recalls, let's not forget how large the Takata airbag recall was for almost all automakers. It wasn't directly Toyota's fault that Takata failed to take necessary action after receiving initial reports (Honda too, the government fined the company $70 million for failing to report injuries).

After one year of owning a 2015 MK7 Golf TSI S, I can say I'm an utterly satisfied owner and am very confident in my purchase. The car for me only has one gripe; the automatic transmission. It either needs another gear or needs to be programmed to not jump to sixth gear so aggressively. When you're driving around town, the transmission is always operating a gear too high and the engine feels bogged down as a result. It's nothing you can't fix with a flick of a shift paddle, but even in sport mode around town driving leaves a little to be desired. On the highway though the transmission is seamless and completely unnoticeable.

I think the point of resistance often overlooked with hatchbacks is the lack of security for stuff in your parked car. A bag of camera or computer gear has a much lower chance of being stolen by a window popper. A sedan or coupe requires defeating sheet metal and locks if you have secured your interior release.
@Dood1es9 жыл бұрын

Nice review Zack, but that was a picture of a Mazda3 sedan, not the hatchback. While I'm a big fan of hatchbacks and wagons, and once owned a Mazda3, I wouldn't compare the two since the Golf is a subcompact, while the Mazda3 is compact class. A Jetta wagon is more apt.
@sic22l10 жыл бұрын
Golf a subcompact? Not really, Golf is a direct Mazda3's competitor.
@cadsux10 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. The U.S. EPA defines subcompact as 165" length, which the previous Golf is. The new 2015 Golf is 167" in length. Mazda3 hatchbacks have been 175" to 177" long, which consistently meets the EPA's definition of compact hatchback of 175". Definitions can vary with each country. Many car magazines that review the best compacts seldom put the Golf in those comparisons. Usually, it's the Jetta. Since the Golf is a "hot hatch"/high performance hatchback, I would say the Mazdaspeed3 is more of a competitor. As a hatchback fan, I agree if you lump all hatchbacks together, no matter what size, they compete and complement each other.
@sic22l10 жыл бұрын
cadsux Every year cars are getting bigger and bigger that's why strict definitions make no sense. It's unfair to compare Golf to the Aveo or Fiesta. Mazda 3 is longer than the Golf but not roomier (rear seats are actually pretty tight). Jetta is more popular among US journalists simply because it's a sedan. Don't forget that sedans are usually longer than hatchbacks.
@cevans202110 жыл бұрын
Golf is a compact, not subcompact car. Car length is hardly a good definition of either class. In fact, it doesn't factor in at all. Interior volume is what definies a vehicle in a class, not exterior size. VW's Polo (not yet sold in the US) is a subcompact
@cadsux10 жыл бұрын
In that case, since one of the EPA's definitions of mid-size car is interior volume of 110 to 119 cu ft, then the Golf would fit since it's 111 cu ft. Length and wheelbase are the first two factors. Otherwise, classification of say, the Honda Fit/Jazz and Nissan Cube would be debatable, and generally those are subcompact class.

I purchased this car based on so many great reviews like these I found over KZbin, but after owning the car for about 3 years I'm not sure if should keep believing these reviewers. While the car offers many great features I liked, there are few other things that ruins the car for me. For example the reviewer said that the car offer one the finest driving experience under the price point and I strongly disagree. This car has the noisiest suspension I have ever driven. None of the cars I have driven in the past has made as much noise as this car. My parents own cars that are near the 200k on millage and are much quieter than my Golf. Some reviwer even recomended the automatic model because it felt "refiened" and "smooth" I can tell you that the shifting of this car is not smoth. It felts like as if was poorly program. Because if you want to go quick it shift smooth and develop decent speed. But if you drive normal (which is how you are driving the mayority of the time) the transmission starts to get clunky and sometimes when you brake it will down shifts really hard. So hard that it reminded me when the transmission of my old Passat went bad. And every single time I took it to the dealer they did not find anything and said "the cars is opariting as the manufacturer intended". But I know that is not me beeing picky because when people get on my car they always ask "why you car does that?" like stating that something is obviously wrong because my car is doing something that their cars does not, but hey "the cars is opariting as the manufacturer intended", so I have nothing to worry about. I just need to suck all of the sloppyness Volkswagen allow into this car.

@djayt121510 жыл бұрын
i could be wrong but it looks like he put the front seat all the way back, so in normal driving situations there's probably plenty of room.

gas filler is on the wrong side (should be on drivers side or like some older cars-- hidden in the back tail light) and its 2015-- add three inches so we can get some leg room in the back seat!! like the color-- like the car-- hate the back seat
@bendwi9410 жыл бұрын
I would like to share another perspective with you about the gas filler that you may not have considered: At some gas stations (domestic and abroad) there is one-way traffic at the pumps. Hence it is ideal to have an even number of vehicles with left and right fillers for typical double-sided pumps. The two most common locations for this type of setup is at an interstate rest-stop station or a non-public station.

I get a Golf is more refined, but does a Golf drive better than a 3? really? o.o\
@sic22l10 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's also very light (just like Mazda) has nice steering and well balanced suspension. Combined with better sound insolation and overall refinement it gives you really good drivers car.
@Veyronp8710 жыл бұрын
mazda 3 is tops in terms of handling and mpg for gas versions. but golf is more refined

Trading in my 2009 Mazda 3 for a 2015 Golf in less than 2 hours. There is NO comparison, the Golf has a waaay better ride.
@Jason.W.10 жыл бұрын
Steve Rose lol I would imagine it's no comparison when it's between a used 6 year old car and a brand new one. I'm assuming you also test drove the new 3 before choosing the golf?
@svr196010 жыл бұрын
Nope, didn't test drive the new 3. Not nuts about the updates to the style after 2009. Mine (which is the 3rd Mazda I've owned) is running great actually, I just prefer the feel of VW's, having owned a 2002 Jetta TDI.

@alexk.54418 жыл бұрын
Overall, the BMW will feel tighter and more confident. In everyday driving some may prefer the Golf's lighter steering, but for fast driving and/or winding roads, the 328i's solid steering feel will beat the Volkswagen's.

NadrianATRS "Golf" in German means "Gulf" in English. VW names many of its vehicles after geographical or atmospheric entities (Passat, Scirocco).

If you just want a box to drive, not clean, trash and never service then ya buy a Honda (which I like) or Toyota and it'll die on you eventually too, but if you want a vehicle that you actually love, care about upkeep (basic) that's better built that most- grab a volkswagen. Man ppl today are so lazy. I can't with these dumb comments anymore. Carefree maintenance is also apart of deal. This rant being said I'm buying one of these. Peace out lazy ass ppl

Golf gets more and more boring each year. Is it no end to how boring they can make a car? Booooring. And to top it off they didn't even include automatic parking assistance, even the lower priced Opel Corsa has that.
